Hummer H3: “baby all-terrain vehicle. Hummer H3: “baby all-terrain vehicle Technical characteristics of h3 power of this

One of the most popular Chinese frame SUVs is still Great Wall Hover H3. High sales and class leadership are amazing, but if you look in more detail, the car has the elements to achieve high sales.

The SUV was released in 2010, and 4 years later the manufacturer released a restyled version, which we will pay more attention to in this review. The car is currently out of production, so you won’t be able to buy it new.

Appearance

The design of the car looks much better than its competitors, despite the fact that the Great Wall Hover H3 is almost completely identical to the Isuzu Axiom. Russian users choose this car because it looks better domestic UAZ Patriot.

The front is distinguished by a massive bumper, elegantly emphasizing the large optics and chrome radiator grille. The restyling features a different bumper, modified optics and a new huge radiator grille.

The profile view attracts the eye with massive flared wheel arches. The Hover H3 restyling has a new lower part, a black molding and a different threshold. Both versions have roof rails that are not decorative.

The rear of the SUV is highlighted by high optics that extend to the roof. The shape of the headlights did not change much during modernization. Trunk lid with some curves and chrome trim. Loading is convenient, since the massive bumper with its shape creates a flat floor, and for loading oversized cargo it's comfortable.

Dimensions of the restyled version Great Wall Hover H3:

  • length – 4650 mm;
  • width – 1800 mm;
  • height – 1745 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2700 mm;
  • ground clearance– 240 mm.

Salon

Previously, the interior of an SUV had a lot of buttons and details, but looking closely you realize that it is still ascetic. The restyling was already more interesting, leather upholstery appeared, of course the leather is not the best, but it’s already nice. Wood-look inserts appeared on the dashboard and door trims.

5 seats– comfortable seats, the front ones have mechanical adjustments in several directions, expensive configurations received electrical adjustment. Free space a lot, due to the size of the body. Only the front row will be heated.

Unfortunately, the leather steering column of the new Hover H3 will not be heated; it is 4-spoke and has audio system buttons on the airbag cover. The instrument panel includes large dial gauges for the speedometer and tachometer, as well as two twin small gauges for oil pressure and fuel level. Not without on-board computer.

The center console began to look much better; a monitor will appear at the top to receive information about the time and temperature outside. Under the air deflectors there is a large touchscreen display of the multimedia system, in top-end configuration Data from the rear view camera is displayed there. At the bottom there is a climate control unit with washers, buttons and a monitor.

The area of the Great Wall New Hover H3 gearbox selector is finished with a wood insert. Behind the handle are cup holders and a mechanical handbrake. The armrest is good, roomy, the only complaint about it is that USB port is located in it, which is not ergonomic.

The trunk is not the largest in the class - 420 liters, some sedans have the same volume. Of course, when folding the rear sofa, the volume is already 2020 liters. A full-size spare tire is bolted to the underbody of the SUV.

Specifications

The cars are equipped with Mitsubishi engines, there are two of them in the line and both are gasoline; the pre-restyling model had only one engine.

  1. The base engine 4G69S4N with its 2-liter volume produces 116 Horse power and 175 units of torque. The naturally aspirated engine was developed jointly with Japanese brand, it consumes only 13 liters in the urban cycle. Claimed power in promotions was 6 horses higher, which is strange.
  2. The second version of the internal combustion engine is built on the basis of the previous one, here is another fuel system and a turbine. The engine is called 4G69S4T and produces 150 horsepower and 250 H*m of torque. In fact, the engine produces 177 horses; the figures are underestimated according to documents on the Russian market. The engine consumes about 11 liters in the city.

The pair is only mechanical, the first Great Wall Hover H3 engine works in conjunction with a 5-speed manual transmission, the second with a 6-speed. Technically, the boxes are different; the first one behaved poorly off-road, constantly overheated and the clutch burned out. Torque is transmitted to the front wheels, and the rear wheels receive it through transfer case BW 47-60.

The frame SUV Great Wall Hover H3 stands on a torsion bar independent suspension, rear dependent circuit on springs. Both axes are equipped with stabilizers lateral stability. It turned out that the car behaves excellent off-road, calmly competing with others, but on the highway the maneuverability leaves much to be desired. It is worth noting a good disc brake system with full ventilation and ABS and EBD systems.

Price Hover H3 New

The manufacturer offers 5 configurations, each of which differs in internal equipment. Basic version Luxe started with a price tag of 785,000 rubles and it contained:

  • climate control;
  • power steering;
  • heated front seats;
  • fabric interior upholstery;
  • anti-fog optics;
  • rain and light sensors;
  • regular audio system with CD and USB.

The top version Turbo Super Luxe cost 840,000 rubles, which is a little more expensive, but optional equipment much more pleasing:

  • Rear View Camera;
  • leather interior trim;
  • electrically adjustable seats;
  • heated rear view mirrors;
  • multimedia display;
  • rear parking sensors.

Based on the review, Great Wall Hover H3 great SUV for the money, there's not much that can beat it off-road in this price segment. In terms of interior and comfort, of course there are better cars, but they will lose in other aspects. The model is not without drawbacks, such as lack of power first internal combustion engine, the difficulty of finding spare parts and repairmen, not enough comfort.

Video

In 2010, it was presented, long awaited release. Russian market, Chinese Great SUV Wall Hover H3 (which replaced “just Hover” and, in fact, is the result of its modernization and “rebranding”) - the “noisy” presentation of the new SUV in Russia was then also supported by a spectacular demonstration of capabilities.

Externally, the Great Wall Hover H3 differs slightly from its predecessor, although if you look closely, changes in the exterior are immediately noticeable - although the front part remains “recognizable”, at the same time, it has been changed in almost everything (except for the main headlights)… slightly expanded moldings, the contours of the rear wing have imperceptibly changed, the front turn signals have “moved” from the wings to the rear-view mirrors, and the “dead zone” on the driver’s mirror has noticeably expanded... rear number is now illuminated not from the sides, but from above (and between the backlights there is a hole for installing a video camera rear view). And the new radiator grille fits into the overall design more organically than its predecessor... and yes, the changes in the optics of the headlights declared by the manufacturer are unlikely to be noticeable with the naked eye.

As for the interior of the Great Wall Hover H3, it has undergone changes that evoke from the depths of memory the lines of the classic: “... and experience, the son of difficult mistakes...”. Indeed, some of the shortcomings of the previous model were finally taken into account and eliminated... but not all.

For example, it is now impossible to turn on all-wheel drive “accidentally” by dropping a heavy object on the button to turn it on. The place of the button was taken by a rotary handle (in the manner of the tuning knobs of old radios). The button for turning on the rear fog lights has taken its rightful place on the right (where the button for turning on the front fog lights used to be) - from now on, the control of both is combined... And on back seat a fifth (children's) headrest and seat belt appeared.

Both front seats are electrically heated, and the driver's seat is also equipped with electric position adjustment. The radio no longer has only a CD, but also an MP3 player with a USB connector on the front panel (and the “CD changer” was “removed from service” - instead the driver received a container with a lid, which he can use at his own discretion).

Great Wall Hover H3 also acquired new controls. A rotating head for turning on the rear wiper has appeared on the right steering column switch, and the control of the front wipers (except for the already familiar two fixed modes) now has the “Auto” position - in which the operation of the wipers is controlled by a rain sensor. The same “auto mode” is also available on the left lever - it turns on the headlight range control, controlled by a light sensor.

The “superlux” package is distinguished from the “standard” package (according to the company’s classification – “luxury”): leather interior (instead of velor) and an electric sunroof. As a “consolation bonus,” the owner of the luxury package will receive a cargo area mat. The standard climate control is the same in both trim levels, and, believe me, it works quite well.

Now is the time to “look under the hood” - that is, under the hood of the Great Wall Hover H3... So, if we talk about technical characteristics - under the hood there is a two-liter engine (to be precise, with a volume of 1997 cm³) Gas engine"Mitsubishi", which now has a power of 122 horsepower and a torque of 175 Nm in the range of 2500-3000 rpm. It comes with a five-speed transmission manual transmission gears with slightly modified compared to previous model gear ratio.

Maximum speed Great Wall Hover H3 – 150 kilometers per hour, and, as usual, limited at this level electronic unit management. So chip tuning lovers have the widest field for activity.

Fuel consumption (gasoline with octane number not lower than 92) is 10.8 liters per hundred in the city or 8.2 outside it.

Regarding other technical Hover characteristics H3, then they remained the same as those of “just Hover”. The wheelbase width is the same 2700 millimeters, and the minimum ground clearance is at least 18 centimeters. The hydraulic power steering is also in place, and still greatly facilitates the control of a heavy vehicle (curb weight 1905 kg).

The performance qualities of the Great Wall Hover H3 SUV can be judged from a small test drive that took place at the training ground of the Research Center for Testing and Development of Motor Vehicles of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI in the town of Dmitrov near Moscow. In general, it was carried out quite standardly - no shocking capabilities were demonstrated when driving on the highway or over rough terrain. But then a very impressive trick was demonstrated... At the training ground there is a section of road with a 60% rise. Until now, only off-road vehicles specially adapted for driving in the mountains (with a winch and a safety rope) have been able to climb this slope. And then, as they say, in front of the amazed public, the Great Wall Hover H3 confidently crawled all the way up this section without any cable, and just like that - on low gear and with it on all-wheel drive. In response to numerous questions about the features of this device, a representative of the general dealer “Hover” in Russia explained that the car used in demonstration performances was an ordinary serial device that had not undergone any modifications.

Well, in conclusion, about the price - the Great Wall Hover H3 in 2014 was offered in two trim levels: “Luxe” (729 thousand rubles) and “Super Luxe” (774 thousand rubles). As the name of the trim levels suggests, the car is already equipped with everything necessary “in the base”, and “Super Luxe” can additionally boast: a rear view camera, leather trim, a sunroof, a multimedia system (instead of an audio system), and electric tuning driver's seat.

In 2014, Chinese frame SUV The Great Wall Hover H3 (aka simply Great Wall H3 New) has undergone a restyling, as a result of which it has changed a little outside and inside, and also received a new turbo engine that consumes 92 gasoline without any problems. Today it is the most serious competitor for UAZ Patriot, Chevrolet Niva, Lada 4x4 and the like, since it can offer real cross-country ability, good build quality and interior finishing, large spaciousness and good equipment - all, of course, according to affordable price, V best traditions automobile industry of the People's Republic of China. Design

SUVs are different. Glamorous, unglamorous, workhorses, lame horses... The modernized Hover with the H3 index rather resembles a workhorse, and the ubiquitous glamor, which, no doubt, has reached Toyota, Honda and even the tank-like Suzuki Jimny, if I passed here, it wasn’t too close. “Chinese” is clearly not suitable for an automobile beauty contest, although, in fairness, it should be noted that it is more or less modern. After all, the designers from the Middle Kingdom thought of making it “like everyone else”, installing a huge, sparkling chrome radiator grille with horizontal slats - in the spirit American cars. And they didn’t forget to install large, expressive headlight eyes, which give the car some resemblance to huge insects from popular adventure films. Fog lights, according to tradition, have a round shape and are hidden in almost rectangular sections.

From the side, the 2014 Hover H3, like the UAZ Patriot, is incredibly boring. No frills - everything is clear and to the point. Namely - plastic protective linings on the sidewalls, large alloy wheel rims with a simple pattern, powerful wheel arches and informative exterior mirrors, painted in body color, with turn signals integrated into them. The rear is also boring - this is evidenced by the unremarkable vertical lights and... And in principle there is nothing else to cling to at the “stern”. This is a workhorse, not a miracle of auto design, what can we take from it?

Design

The restyled Hover is based on the same well-proven platform as the pre-reform model. It has an independent torsion bar suspension at the front and dependent suspension with four trailing arms with Panhard rod. All suspension parts are powerful, due to which the car can easily cope with bumps, potholes, cracks and waves on the roads, especially at medium speeds. Brakes - disc (front - ventilated).

Adaptation to Russian conditions

For the harsh road realities of Russia, the car is not bad - fortunately, there are all-wheel drive transmission(all-wheel drive control buttons are located in convenient location- at the bottom of the center console), and 240 mm ground clearance, and a fuel tank with a very durable body, and protection engine compartment, which also protects the gearbox and transfer case from impacts. Hidden in engine compartment new turbo engine unpretentious to fuel quality and calmly treats 92-octane gasoline, which is so popular in our country. For operation in the cold season, heated external mirrors are provided, rear window and seats in the first row, and in addition, climate control is included in each package.

Comfort

It's worth being behind the wheel updated Hover H3, as you immediately notice the almost complete absence of the unpleasant phenolic odor that is characteristic of many Chinese cars. You can easily get comfortable in the driver's seat - it is soft, with adequate lateral support and adjustable lumbar support. The seat trim is leather or velor. Steering wheel, like other Great Wall H-series SUVs, is adjustable exclusively for tilt. The instrument panel is also standard “Greatwall” - it is quite clear and perfectly readable. The functionality of the on-board computer, unfortunately, has not changed: on a small screen located between two “wells” fuel consumption indicated only in one form - instant. The range of numbers appearing on the screen is very wide (from 0.1 to 29.0 liters), but the average “appetite” still needs to be calculated in your head or using a calculator. In addition, the on-board computer display occasionally prompts you to upshift or downshift, depending on road conditions.

Between the seats of the first row there is a large two-level box armrest where you can store personal items. Next to it is a cigarette lighter socket (a similar socket is embedded in the wall of the trunk). The gearshift lever on the central tunnel has a nice plastic lining with an “expensive” texture. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to attach a smartphone for charging - except perhaps in the cup holders on the lining of the floor tunnel. The rear of the cabin is spacious: there is enough knee room, even for tall passengers. The transmission tunnel will not interfere with the average passenger - it almost does not protrude from the floor. A surprise awaits under the right seat cushion - the Chinese have placed a set of tools there, useful for long journeys. The cushion of the rear sofa is slightly lower and shorter than necessary, and the backrest is not able to be adjusted in tilt, but it can fold in a 1:2 ratio. Cargo compartment The restyled version is no different from the trunk of its predecessor: its area is large, but the “roller” curtain is not located as high as we would like. However, if desired, it is enough to remove it, thereby making the process of loading and unloading luggage easier.

In 2010, the Irito company, which is the main importer of Hover in Russia, conducted crash tests of the Hover H3 as part of the Safety Program Chinese cars mobiles." The tests used the NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) methodology, which involves a frontal crash test with 40% overlap at a speed of 64 km/h, which is a simulation of a “live” frontal impact. In these tests, the Hover H3 was able to demonstrate a decent level of protection for the driver and passengers, earning 11.7 points out of 16 (73%). The standard equipment of the “Chinese” is quite modest: it includes front airbags, an anti-lock braking system and a braking force system. Parking sensors, navigation, and a rearview camera are available for an additional cost.

In the top Hover configuration H3 there is a new multimedia system with touch display, AUX/USB inputs and Bluetooth for connecting gadgets, as well as an SD slot for loading navigation maps. The graphics and sound of the multimedia are acceptable, the image from the rear view camera is clear, blue backlight not very pleasing to the eye, and the interface is overloaded with unnecessary information - such as, for example, a compass, pressure and altitude. There was no indicator of the temperature outside and adjustment of the brightness of the touchscreen. Due to the fact that the brightness of the display cannot be changed, the numbers are difficult to see in the sun during the day, and in the evening their cheerful heavenly glow is simply annoying. Obviously, the manufacturer still has some work to do.

Great Wall Hover N3 Specifications

What kind of tricks did the owners of pre-reform “Hovers” resort to in order to make their cars drive as expected: they did engine chip tuning, installed mechanical compressor, poured AI-95 gasoline with additives into the fuel tank... And finally, Great Wall listened to customers and came up with a solution to this problem, using a turbocharger from Shanghai MHI Turbocharger Co. - Chinese division Japanese company Mitsubishi, which inspires confidence to a certain extent. As a result, under the hood of the restyled Hover H3 lives a familiar 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with the index 4G63S4M, which has received a number of modifications. The improved unit produces 177 hp. and 250 Nm of peak torque instead of the previous 116 hp. and 175 Nm (the 116-horsepower version is still on sale along with a 5-speed manual transmission), but derated for Russia up to 150 “horses”. Now the SUV behaves much more recklessly than before - overtaking is definitely easier. For this we should also thank the brand new six-speed manual transmission with “extended” gears.

Frame all-wheel drive SUV Great Wall Hover H3 has been known in Russia for quite some time. The first cars of this brand appeared on our roads in 2006 and since then have managed to become the best-selling among Chinese cars of this class. Why is the Great Wall Hover N3 so good and does it live up to the hopes of Russian car enthusiasts who dared to purchase this new “Chinese” in last years 2012-2013? It's time to look into this issue.

During its existence, Gretvol Hover H3 managed to survive a couple of restylings, the last of which took place not too long ago, and set several sales records. For a Chinese car, such successes sometimes seem fantastic, but the H3 still has some makings of an unspoken leader in its segment.

True, they mostly lie in technical stuffing, and not in appearance, with which Chinese cars traditionally have big problems. There is no good design school of its own in the Celestial Empire, and therefore almost all chinese cars copy successful images of Japanese or European bestsellers.

Gret Wall Hover H3 things are even worse: initially the appearance was copied from the old (at that time) Isuzu Axiom, and subsequently slightly ennobled by the efforts of the Chinese designers themselves. As a result, even looking quite decent compared to the Chevrolet Niva, the Chinese SUV is noticeably inferior to all other players in the off-road segment of the Russian car market, both in the aesthetics of execution and in the conceptual design of the exterior.

Meanwhile, with their “improvements” the Chinese tried to give the Great Wall Hover H3 as much brutality and a little solidity as possible, characteristic of premium SUVs originally from Japan or Europe. This partially worked out, and this is especially evident in the dimensions of the all-metal body, the length of which is 4620 mm, the width is exactly 1800 mm, and the height, including the spoiler, does not exceed the same 1800 mm.

  • The wheelbase of the Hover N 3, which is 2700 mm, also looks quite impressive. But the ground clearance for a car positioned as a full-fledged all-terrain vehicle is somewhat low: the ground clearance of the Great Wall Hover H3 is 230 mm under the engine crankcase and about 310 mm under the lower edge of the front bumper.

The Hover H 3 is equipped with only one type of wheels - 17-inch alloy wheels prepared for tires size 235/65 R17. According to the tradition of the line Hover cars, the H3 SUV is offered in 10 color variations, of which the most popular shades are graphite black, silver and dark gray. In other cases of color scheme, the car does not look so presentable and even loses its feigned solidity.

The interior of the Hover H3 SUV is simple, unpretentious and completely devoid of even a hint of presentability. It should be noted that the interior of the Gret Wall Hover H3 is quite spacious and comfortable, both in the front seats with good lateral support and in the cozy back row.

But there are also a number of tangible disadvantages. Firstly, due to the frame structure of the chassis, the floor is raised too high, and the seats are lowered, which causes discomfort in the legs when long trips. Secondly, the Hover H3 has noticeably poor ergonomics: who could have thought of placing the USB audio system connector in the armrest box? And thirdly, the finishing materials are only depressing; although the plastic doesn’t smell like anything, it’s cheap, very cheap.

As a positive point, we note the trunk, the volume of which is approximately 600 liters. It could have been more, but the designers placed a spare tire under the bottom of the Hover H3, so some of the possible space in the trunk had to be sacrificed. By the way, the location of the toolkit in the interior of the SUV is very interesting. It was carefully packed into special mounts under the rising right half back row seats.

Specifications Great Wall Hover H3 produced in 2012-2013: there is only one motor for the Hover H3, so the buyer will not have a choice. True, the engine is not Chinese, but a quite reliable, albeit a little outdated, Japanese 4-cylinder Mitsubishi unit 4G63S4M with a volume of 2.0 liters. Unfortunately, the engine has not enough power for such a large SUV - 116 hp at 5250 rpm, which affects speed characteristics. The maximum speed is stated at 160 mph, but achieving it will not be easy, since the engine torque does not exceed 175 Nm, and this despite the fact that the curb weight of the Hover H3 is almost 2 tons (1905 kg). The engine prefers to “eat” AI-92 gasoline, and average consumption fuel Gret Wall Hover H3 when driving in mixed cycle stated at 13.9 liters.

Chinese developers also do not give domestic car enthusiasts a choice of gearbox, offering a 5-speed manual with a dry single-plate clutch paired with the engine. Gear ratio final drive The manual transmission is 4.220, and to its performance no special complaints no one has any problems - gear shifting occurs confidently, without unnecessary squeaks, crunches and other delights, and the gearbox also does not make annoying noise while driving.

Test Drive Great Wall Hover H3: first of all, it is important to consider that this is an all-wheel drive frame SUV with a massive, almost cargo-like suspension. This, of course, allows the car to feel confident on almost any off-road, but it introduces a huge fly in the ointment when driving on paved roads. At the front, the Great Wall Hover H3 is equipped with an independent double wishbone suspension With torsion beam, and a dependent spring structure with hydraulic shock absorbers is installed at the rear. The suspension settings are maximally adapted to off-road conditions, allowing you to take full advantage of the 4x4 layout, complemented by a two-stage transfer case. But as soon as you go on the highway or get into the city, all the driving advantages of the Hover H3 disappear completely.

As shown by numerous test drives and operating experience of the Great Wall Hover H3 Russian conditions, the SUV is quite heavy when maneuvering and is completely unsuited to dynamic driving: behind the wheel of this Chinese you can safely forget about confident overtaking, and when changing lanes or sharp turns It's better to hold the steering wheel tighter. Whatever one may say, the main element of the Hover H3 is country trips, including extreme auto tourism. From positive points We can highlight a good braking system with disc mechanisms on all wheels and a mechanical drive of the parking brake.

How much does it cost to buy a Great Wall Hover H3 in Russia at official dealerships:
