Water penetrates into such wheel arch liners, but rather quickly flows down them and dries up. And due to the fact that the wheel arch liners themselves breathe well, the arches under them are better ventilated and rot less.

In our case, there is not even a hint of corrosion under them.

In all fairness, XRAY cannot be called a failed car for VAZ. And the 16,000 cars planned for this year will be realized. But, in all honesty, this is not a circulation that you should be proud of.

XRAY was serialized last December. Even then, criticism poured down that the appearance of the car has little in common with the prototype shown earlier. Where is that lightness and swiftness of the image? There is no her. However, against the background of the donor in the person of Renault Sandero Stepway, the domestic crossover looks very much even nothing. He especially suits the color red.

Initially, the interior makes an extremely positive impression. Here is a multi-function steering wheel, comfortable to grip, climate control with display, tasteful seat upholstery. But after sitting down, you understand that Iccrea has room to grow: the chairs borrowed from Sandero are inconvenient (the Vesto “furniture” is much better), there is nowhere to attach a smartphone, and a make-up mirror will not be superfluous to build into both visors.

But visibility is good - you can see everything from the driver's seat. I will only criticize the image from the rear view camera: the monitor glares a lot even in low light. But advanced navigation, which is able to guide along the route, taking into account traffic jams, does not allow abandoning the multimedia system. And it does it sometimes no worse than the popular and free application for smartphones "Yandex.Navigator"!

XRAY became the first car of the brand for which the newest 1.8-liter 16-valve VAZ-21179 is available. It has a solid power (122 hp) and torque (170 Nm). So, I expected a lot from the dynamics of the top version.

But, as the classic said, the hopes of young men are nourished. So mine did not come true. The potential of the motor is ruined by an obstinate automatic transmission (AMT): hesitation, pecking when shifting ... Against the background of smooth and predictable hydromechanical automatic transmissions, the AMT transmission seems like a devil. Even I, a calm driver, now and then became furious with these delays and jerks. And I also didn’t like the fact that the car doesn’t drive after standing and releasing the brake pedal. XRAY will roll only in response to pressing the accelerator. It's wildly uncomfortable in traffic jams!

The smoothness of the ride was also upset. Lada regularly collects all the small things on the road and bounces on irregularities with a larger caliber. But there are no complaints about the energy intensity of the suspension - it does not come to breakdowns. Where the beat is felt is on the steering wheel. You will drive five minutes on the broken asphalt, you will be all exhausted. And it would be alright the reward for this shaking was verified handling - but no. When cornering, XRAY is unsophisticated, reluctantly stands on the arc and does not indulge in informative feedback.

But outside the asphalt XRAY moves quite confidently - good geometric cross-country ability (minimum ground clearance - 195 mm!) And good engine traction at low revs help. By the way, there was also a system of holding on the slope. A test car from the first batch - this means that you cannot turn off ESP - this function was lacking in the mud. However, since this fall, Togliatti residents have made a number of improvements to the Iccrea design, including the ESP deactivation button. Such a prompt response to the wishes of buyers is welcome.

It is clear that any new car, upon entering the market, starts to "delight" from time to time with all sorts of surprises. It is not for nothing that manufacturers modify "raw" cars right in the midst of sales. But the situation is different - the Togliatti auto giant has never been distinguished by high-quality assembly and a long service life of its products, so there is no point in finding fault with them, in general. If not for a loud novelty, but not anyhow, but the first in the history of the domestic brand "crossover" (read - hatchback), which the Volga residents presented so pathetically and beautifully that they didn't want to look at foreign cars. But did he reach their level?

LET'S SCRIPT LITTLE
