Initially, the second-generation BMW X5 was equipped with naturally aspirated gasoline engines: inline-six N52 3.0si (272 hp) and V8 N62 4.8i (355 hp). And also a diesel inline six-cylinder unit M57 with a working volume of 3.0 liters in two versions: 3.0d (235 hp) and 3.0sd - with two turbochargers (286 hp). Since 2008, the 3.0sd diesel (286 hp) was designated 35d, and in 2009 another 35d modification with 265 hp appeared.

After restyling in April 2010, instead of gasoline aspirated engines, they began to install turbocharged engines: a 3-liter N55 35i (306 hp) and an 8-cylinder V8 4.4 liter with two turbines N63 50i (407 hp). ... Diesel engines have also changed. Now they were presented with a 3-liter N57 in versions: 30d (245 hp), the old 35d (265 hp), a new 3-liter with 2 turbines 40d (306 hp) and from 2011 M50d (381 hp).

A feature of gasoline 3-liter engines assembled before November 2008 is the knock of hydraulic lifters on a cold one or after several short runs without full warming up. BMW in such cases prescribed replacement of the cylinder head assembly. A cheaper way is to replace only the hydraulic lifters. But in both the first and second cases, the knocking soon reappeared.

A 3-liter aspirated air periodically requires replacement of the crankcase ventilation valve (KVKG) built into the valve cover. The atmospheric 4.8i is perhaps the most reliable in the E70 engine lineup. With a mileage of more than 80-100 thousand km, oil consumption may increase due to hardened valve stem seals. By this time, the crankshaft oil seals can also "leak".

Biturbo 50i due to the turbochargers in the collapse of the block receives large heat loads. Oil consumption of 1-2 liters per 1,000 km after 50-60 thousand km is a common occurrence. 7. There should be no vibration in the passenger compartment. It can be barely perceptible on the steering wheel and on the door handles. There should not be a strong hum in the cabin at XX. In general, when the doors are closed, you should have the feeling that it is a gasoline engine running. Those. if you didn’t know that it is a diesel, you wouldn’t guess.

8. The start-stop button must not be overwritten. Those. all letters must be clearly visible on it. The button starts to overwrite somewhere around 150,000 mileage. It's barely noticeable. Strongly worn already by 200,000.
The rest of the buttons (PDC, DCS, etc.) should also be as new.

9. Look at the oil leaks on the left and right of the engine. Oil can escape through loose swirl flaps. It can flow from here.

10. If there is no particulate filter, and, according to my feelings, it clogs up to 200,000 mileage, when the gas pedal is pressed sharply, there may be black smoke in the exhaust.

15. The box should switch very smoothly. You don't even have to notice when it happens. If it kicks, then you can try to change the oil and reset the adaptation. But I would have given up on this car right away.

16. Check the work of the climate. Blowing should be everywhere from all nozzles with the same temperature at the same temperature set in the climate and with a uniform flow in strength.

17. Inspect the rear lights. Due to ill-conceived sealing, the taillights on the trunk lid sweat and, as a result, the contacts melt. Only replace the lanterns if they are not lit. And if they burn and sweat, then replace the sealant.

19. The interior should not smell like washer. Often the washer hose bursts, which goes through the cabin, and it begins to flow in a forward flow into the cabin. 22. Check the gearboxes for fogging and smudges.

23. Check the operation of the main thermostat and the thermostat of the EGR system (if any).

Regarding the steering wheel, here, unfortunately, everything is simple. The steering wheel is exactly the same as the regular version, although it would seem that there should be hints of sports. Of course, there are gearshift paddles here, but this is very little to tell you that this car can "bring down".

The steering wheel is leather and there are buttons for the audio system and a heating button. The dashboard is quite simple and it is made in the style of BMW. Large analogue gauges with chrome-plated bezels that house the fuel level and oil temperature gauges inside. There is also an uninformative on-board computer.

It is not enough for such a miracle of technology as the BMW X5M e70 to cost for sure, there are options in the secondary market and there are a lot of them. On average, you can buy this car for 2,000,000 rubles, which is, in principle, inexpensive. Regarding reliability, this is a controversial issue, there are many positive reviews and no less negative ones in this regard.

The overall driving feel of the BMW X5 E70 is good, but not perfect as in the Audi A8. In general, I wanted to take 3.0 sd, but they were not on sale yet, but I do not regret it at all, you can "anneal" on this too. I have not yet traveled 1000 km by car (run-in 2000), so the engine did not turn too much. Finally, I would like to say about Russian diesel fuel - it is quite normal. People who have never driven a diesel engine, but persistently prove that diesel fuel is useless in Russia, are annoying, they are just fools. The future of the automotive industry belongs to the diesel engine, I am sure of that.

I went through a run-in, I want to tell you my impressions. About dynamics - the BMW X5 E70 rides very well. Really more is not necessary. Although as anyone. The car, in a good way, "turns ugly before our eyes" in a split second. Any overtaking, any checkers, any maneuvers - everything is within reach. Controllability is beyond praise. There is absolutely no impression that you are driving a car for 2 tons of weight. No rolls to you, no dives, no swaying - I really like it. Indeed, it is probably not for nothing that they say about BMW that it is a driver's car. And there is. About comfort: at first in the BMW X5 E70 it was a little harsh for me. Even too much. I took off the Run Flat tires - it got better. After running in - no complaints at all. Softened up, or something. But in general, the noise insulation is at a height, the engine hums pleasantly during acceleration, the wheels do not hiss. The reliability of the BMW X5 E70 has not yet been discussed. There seemed to be some noises in the "cold" suspension, I went to the dealer - nothing was found. They pulled everything up, it seemed to disappear. This Saturday for the first time in this car I went to the "Dalnyak". To Tver there and back. I don’t know who spoke out about the lack of track dynamics in this engine - I have never found such a thing. Everything is fine. Rides - "be healthy" at any speed. Maybe after 150 km / h and that there is a negative thing going on there, which I strongly doubt, but in admissible speeds "before the disqualification" it storms any overtaking at medium revs. Yes, I don’t argue, there is better, but, to be honest, I don’t put my mind to it much more. For example, a friend bought from me, almost after me, the same one, only with a 4.0 d engine. I rolled. The real difference is 0.5 seconds to the "hundredth". Up to 120 also, up to 140 again 0.5 seconds. The cost is 500 thousand more. The tax is almost three times more, it eats two or three liters more. Diesel philosophy is lost. Still, they take diesel for what no savings. But this is my purely personal opinion. Good luck on the road!

The car was purchased in January 2014 and was operated by me until May 2016. During this time, I drove a BMW X5 E70 about 80 thousand km. I bought it for 100 thousand km and sold it for 180 thousand km. First of all, I would like to say that this is a strong, powerful and beautiful car. Remarkable handling, especially on the track, together with the dynamics provide significant advantages when making maneuvers. Often I had to travel long distances, where I felt all these advantages. The salon is quite spacious and functional, the materials are of high quality. Probably the only minus of the interior is the creaky interior, but after a while you don't notice it. This personal opinion is now a little about facts and figures. Of course, like any other car of this class, the BMW X5 requires attention and corresponding costs. During the period of owning a car, 2.5 years, there were no serious problems with it and it is especially gratifying that unexpected breakdowns did not happen, with the exception of the wipers (the relay in the fuse box went off). The pump flew, but it hummed persistently for 5 months, and I knew about this problem, but my hands did not reach. I also changed the lower transverse levers: work 3825, spare parts for 5500 per lever (not the original like). These are the prices for 2015. No other checks have survived. But just before the sale I changed the ball joints - they were 2000 original ones. In addition to consumables (oil, filter, brake discs, pads), nothing else was done in the BMW X5 E70, for the entire time one taillight in the rear door burned out, it is diode, so it changes entirely. Now about the expense. For me, this really turned out to be a problem and one of the reasons for selling this car. As for the 35i engine - 306 horsepower, this is what I wanted, since there are friends who own Xs with more powerful ones and, in their personal subjective opinion, the difference is small, which I was later convinced of myself. Diesel did not take in principle: it rumbles. Left the car and was just wildly surprised by the landing. He sat down, however, on these seats not immediately, after two months (too many adjustments). The interior quality of the BMW X5 E70 is excellent, but austere. If you want expensive and rich - you are in Mercedes. Everything is different in BMW: perfect ergonomics, nothing and nowhere creaked in 4 years, except for rubbed leather on a denim bottom. Now about the suspension - a song. For 120 thousand, nothing broke, I only changed the stabilizer bushings, and that's my fault - I'm driving from the dacha, something is tapping in the right rear wheel. I think I'll stop by on the way to the service (unofficial). Raised on a lift, the master says that the bushing, but you need to change everything at once. Well, I fell for it. When it was done, I left - everything was the same. Returned. The master climbed for fifteen minutes. And imagine my surprise when he turned with a long wrench in the area of ​​the bumper and the rear axle and a piece of ice 10 cm fell out from there. How it got there or formed, I still think. He then turned out to be the cause of this noise. The engine is super reliable, but it is over 120 thousand km. I was before the sale with an official, looked and did diagnostics, they said that these engines run up to 200-250 thousand without questions. Interestingly, at the end of the warranty period (after 2 years) I started eating oil: somewhere 300-500 g ... by 10 thousand km (not critical, but still). The dynamics are very controversial: the fact is that on dry asphalt you gently stroke the trigger and feel very confident, or rather the emperor of the road, however, I have never competed with supercars. I never pressed it to the end, even when overtaking over 140 on the track, it is enough for the eyes. But in the winter I felt "slippery". The fact is that the car weighs 2.5 tons, but the engine for 300 horses bullets it very evil. Feels constant skidding or drifting, scary. I have never accelerated more than 140 on a snow-covered track.

Dignity : the machine is extremely reliable. Engine 306 HP more than enough. Ergonomics for an amateur. The feeling on the road and in the stream is envy.

Driving the BMW X5 E70 was initially mixed. Changed without question. The second warranty case was very tricky. The headlight washers got out and did not want to climb back. It looked very strange - they changed both for something, although only one was out of order. In general, I had no more questions with the operation of the car. I did everything according to the regulations, I changed the oil in the box for 70 thousand. After the end of the warranty, I left the dealer and began to serve in the service, where I was sure that the oil had been changed for sure, and not pretended. And I don’t even know what else to add. The car is now 4 years and 3 months old (bought in April 2011). It is now 84 thousand and for all this time there was absolutely nothing but what was described above. Of all the cars that I personally owned, the BMW X5 E70 turned out to be the most reliable. Even my hands were itching to do something with it, as I like the car to be serviced. But apart from all consumables, there was no such opportunity. Of the minuses, I can note the stiffness of the suspension. Yes, fantastic handling has its drawbacks. In general, you get used to stiffness, but when you change to another class, you sharply feel more comfort and less controllability.

Good day to all. I would like to tell you about a very controversial car - BMW X5 in the back of E70. I got the car, I knew it in general for a long time, but without details, as I drove a Merce. These cars are not from this world.

The first sensation is toughness, compared to Moers. The steering wheel is tight as in the Zhiguli. The first week was spent getting used to a new type of driving, then it began. For some, BMW X 5 is a dream car, an ideal, a standard, what a real car should be.

Someone is afraid of such cars, the car is dangerous for everyone, they are afraid like fire, believing that BMW will leave its owner without a penny of money. Someone considers the owners of X5 people from higher worlds who bought a car just to show off.

And the whole salon was in some kind of black lumps, it greatly embarrassed me. Yes. One thing is for sure - this car does not leave anyone indifferent. This is a car from another world. If anyone is interested, I will say that I owned many cars, including many VAZ models, foreign cars, but we will focus on BMW.

BMW is not an easy car. About 5-6 years ago I owned a 3-series in the back of an E46 station wagon, with an M47N diesel engine. An excellent car with a good high-torque engine, a very ergonomic interior, comfortable sports seats, abs and dynamic stabilization systems and a bunch of other interesting things.

Rear-wheel drive and a sharp steering wheel made driving this car a delight. You seemed to burst into space from another dimension. Very roomy trunk, rear seats folded into a flat floor. Good sound insulation, decent full-time music. 6-speed mechanics, the consumption in the city was 12-15 liters, on the highway 10, moreover, that I never really saved.

It did not cause problems, ceasing to worry, but the car seems to take out, although, of course, there were repairs, but nothing critical. I think so by the age of 50 I will take myself an apartment in Cyprus and there I will communicate with men and drink vodka ... Since then I have become a fan of the BMW brand and, in particular, their diesel engines.

After the E46 320d there were other cars, but I always wanted something powerful, tall, automatic and always diesel. A car from another reality. I began to choose X3 E83, 3.0d with an M57T2 engine, I was looking for a long time.

In our world, there were no good options, I was looking in other regions, BMW fans from other cities helped to carry out diagnostics. I have not found a good X3. Then I decided to look at the X5 E70. For me, X 5 has always been a dream, a car of a different scale, an unattainable dream, I always wanted it. But, firstly, it is expensive, and secondly, the myths about the X5's lameness, of course, were stopped. I started looking, choosing.

And finally, I came across a good BMW X5 E70 with minor deficiencies in the suspension. One lamp in the trunk lid did not work (this is the E70 dorestayling disease). Well, it's not a car, but a fairy tale, but one detail must be remembered ... In general, I became the owner of an X5 E70 with an M57T2 engine with 235 hp.

Impressions

Pneumatic rear, by the way, plays a role only as a ride height regulator, that is, you can load at least as much into the trunk and the car will still stand like no load.

I love my car very much ... There is also the X5 with active suspension and active stabilizers, with which, they say, the suspension is much more interesting. I myself have not ridden one, so I will not say anything.

But the suspension is ordinary - terribly dull. Rigid, but at the same time perfected handling, as in the top three, is not at all present here. Of the global shortcomings, perhaps all. Although no, not all.

The next drawback, which, most likely, arises from the first one is the creaky and rattling interior. By the way, I am a driver with great experience ... Honestly, at first I was taken aback. This is the X5, a car clearly from other worlds, the flagship of the BMW crossover family, which stands as something more.

The car is formidable, they are afraid of it. In the cabin, there are a lot of joints of dissimilar materials - different plastics, leather, things from another dimension, which frighten ordinary citizens who creak among themselves.

For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that 90% of the noises and squeaks were from the trunk, and when I, after reading the Internet, manipulated the tailgate hinges and the rear seat brackets, most of the squeaks were gone. But the sediment remained. BMW - cars are complex, incredibly thin ... Perhaps now all of the shortcomings.

Pleasant. The active steering rack is a great thing! Obviously created by people from another world. Turning around and maneuvering is a pleasure. Less than two turns from lock to lock. Bundle engine + box - a fairy tale. There is always enough power in all modes: city, highway - no difference. There is a small turbo lag on the bottom, but not critical.

The M57T2 engine is the final generation of the M-series diesel engines. The engine is excellent, reliable, devoid of any childhood diseases, unlike BMW gasoline or N-series diesel engines.

ZF gearbox, 6 steps, there were no problems with it, everything is fine. And sometimes the smell in the cabin is the same as in a country toilet ... The xDrive all-wheel drive also showed its good side. Its work is invisible, you just drive in any weather conditions - and that's it. I myself am from the village, excuse me, that's why I immediately associate with a rural toilet ...

Snow on the road or ice - no difference. This car is stronger than you. I pressed the pedal and drove away while the mono drive is trying to move. Of course, the X5 is not an SUV, all-wheel drive is here only for confident driving in any road conditions, it is better not to go off-road.

I'm a normal guy ... Although I went fishing on gullies, I followed Niva and Duster everywhere, but all the same, the overhangs of the X5 are decent, and the dimensions are rather big. Among other things, I had one of the pleasant options: a bi-xenon with an automatic high beam, it works quite correctly, only it does not see the dull dimensions of the car in front.

HI-FI music with 12 speakers, including subwoofers under the front seats, electric trunk, front-rear parking sensors + rear view camera, climate-comfort windshield, heated steering wheel. And diesel is more interesting to me than gasoline.

In general, the package bundle, of course, is far from complete, but not empty either. Yes, but the car is interesting on the road. The only thing I would like is comfort seats with non-breaking backrests. But I had the usual electric seats with memory + lumbar pad inflation, which is also very comfortable.

Now about the operation. I will say this: if you want to own a BMW, then learn to understand it yourself. I dreamed of buying thieves' numbers, but the toad was choking me. You must be and understand other worlds, otherwise after a while you will also say that BMW is a lumpy crap, give a lot of money to services that will cheat you, but there will be no sense from it.

I've been on BMW for a long time, since the first E46, collecting information, reading, trying to do something, because I'm interested in it. I served my BMWs myself, again, because I'm interested in it.

The dirtiest work, or if I didn't want to mess around, gave it to a trusted service, but, again, always knowing what exactly I needed to change and what was needed for this. I always changed the oil, filters myself, it is easier there than on Zhiguli. The only thing is, replacing the air filter on the M57T2 motor requires a little skill.

In terms of maintenance costs, which I changed in a little over a year: after purchase - changing the oil in the automatic transmission completely, with replacing the pallet, sealing sleeve and mechatronics glasses, the pallet is exclusively the original or ZF (which, in fact, is also the original) - it turned out about 15-17 tr., The front lower levers are the most vulnerable place in the suspension, I took TRW (they are supplied to the conveyor) - 10 tr. pair.

Lantern in the trunk lid (on dorestayls flow) - 3.5 tr. Magnetti Marelli (also, in fact, the original). Then he changed the thermostats (main and ugr) - 3 tr. for both (original) + 2 or 3 tr. replacement. I changed one front hub, it was my own fault - I went with an imbalance on the wheel. Everything, nothing else seems to have changed. Only oil and filters, pads.

I drove in a little over a year, about 30,000 km. The total mileage at the time of sale is 184,000 km. And, I will say so, for this car, such a mileage is nonsense. How the car is maintained and operated is very important. Initially, you need to do a thorough diagnosis and not buy a wrung-out car, albeit a little cheaper - it will come out sideways.

About diesel. It started up in frost, at -27-29 it started up. It will start even at -35, the main thing is that the glow plugs, the glow block are in good working order and good diesel fuel is filled in. The X5 also has a very tricky battery charging system. If an AGM battery is installed, then it does not fully charge, maximum 80%, such a charging strategy.

On short trips, it generally discharges in freezing temperatures of -30. With a 50% battery charge, you will not start, the electronics simply will not allow you to turn the starter, since the X5 is a very energy-loaded car. It is necessary to register the KVNK short trip profile in the FA vehicle. In the cold, my car started up from 1.5 - 2 revolutions, the main thing is to give it these two revolutions.

Let me make a small conclusion. BMW X5 E70 undoubtedly scares everyone and haunts anyone, a car from other worlds ... Excellent aggressive design, good driving characteristics, the best (in my opinion) diesel engines. Very roomy and functional, comfortable, powerful car. With proper care, this is a very reliable car, I have never got up somewhere, all repairs are planned. Of the shortcomings, I note - a dull stiff suspension, which sometimes really infuriated with our roads; squeaky interior (again, on bad roads). The rest of the car is perfect. Would I buy such a car again? Perhaps yes, subject to thorough diagnostics and, most likely, with Dynamic Drive suspension and comfortable saddles. But for starters, I would still ride the Tuareg on pneuma and compare.
