The line of new Audi products has been replenished with the new premium crossover Audi Q3 2018-2019, which revealed all the cards on July 25, 2018. The 2nd generation model moved to a new platform, increased in size, acquired a more spacious and welcoming cabin, received a bunch of advanced electronics and ultra-modern equipment. In the European market, the modernized Audi Ku 3 will go on sale after the official presentation at the Paris Motor Show, that is, somewhere in November this year. The price of the updated compact SUV, if it grows, is insignificant. The current version of the "troika" costs at least 30,800 euros in Germany, so the initial price tag for a new generation crossover is unlikely to be lower than 31,000 euros.

According to preliminary information, the "second" Audi Q3 will arrive in Russia in the first half of 2019. Accordingly, the exact configuration and the price of the new model in the specification for the Russian market will appear closer to the date of the start of sales. Roughly the base price should be expected in the region of 2.1-2.2 million rubles (offered for at least 2 million). The Audi plant in Gyor, Hungary, which is already rolling off the assembly line, will supply us and the whole of Europe with new "ku-thirds". The capacities of this enterprise, after serious financial investments, were significantly expanded, which made it possible to transfer the production of the crossover here from the Spanish Martorell.

New body design and increased dimensions

With the appearance of the compact in the Audi model range, an increase in the size of the body of the senior in rank Q3 was quite expected, the distance between the SUVs turned out to be too small. Replacing the old "cart" PQ35 with a modern modular platform MQB, the "troika" has grown decently in size, approaching the latter. The length of the car increased by 97 mm (up to 4485 mm), the width - by 25 mm (up to 1856 mm), the wheelbase - by 77 mm (up to 2680 mm). Only the height has decreased, and even then it is minimal - from 1590 to 1585 mm (-5 mm).

With the transition to the new generation, the Audi Ku 3 has greatly changed in appearance, and now it looks even more sporty, assertive and even courageous. The main culprit behind these changes was Mark Lichte, who took over Audi's design department in February 2014. He already had a hand in the creation of the flagship, and now he transferred many of the developments from that project to the "junior" Q3.

The new "Ku-third" was awarded a chic Singleframe 8-angle grille with vertical slats, stylish headlights of the original configuration (in the "base" optics are LED, in expensive trim levels adaptive or matrix), an expressive bumper with large sections of side air intakes.

At the stern, there are new side lights, painted in the same style as the headlights, a modified tailgate (it has acquired a more regular rectangular shape), a neat bumper with tapered trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes organically integrated into the overall structure.

The new Audi will be offered to the buyer with eleven body colors and a wide selection of alloy wheels. The standard wheel size varies from 17 to 20 inches, the largest wheels come with low-profile tires 255/40 R20 from Audi Sport GmbH. It is the 20-inch "rollers" that are one of the distinctive features of the Audi Ku 3 crossover with the S Line styling package. Also, equipment with a "sports" package provides for a special shape and decor of bumpers, the presence of Matrix LED optics and door sills, body paint in the exclusive colors Pulse Orange and Chronos Gray.

High-tech interior

The interior of the car has undergone no less extensive reform than the exterior. There are more than enough innovations here - this is a seriously increased stock of free space for passengers, and a radically revised architecture of the front panel, and improved quality of finishing materials, and a greatly expanded assortment of the most advanced electronic equipment. When entering the passenger compartment, of course, the first thing that catches the eye is the highest level of "digitization" of the driver's working area. From now on, he will have a virtual instrument cluster in one of two versions - either a basic 10.25-inch display with painted dials, or an optional 12.3-inch screen, which provides for the ability to customize the output data.

The center console of the second generation Audi Ku3 is completely new, slightly turned towards the driver (turning angle of 10 degrees). The main place here is occupied by a platform enclosed in a chrome frame with a MMI multimedia system screen, the size of which, depending on the version, is 8.8 or 10.1 inches. The infotainment complex has two USB ports (one of them in Type-C format), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces, a 4G LTE Advanced communication module, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a DAB radio, and a set of Audi connect services. The most advanced version of the MMI navigation plus media center, in addition to the navigation function, supports the recognition of voice commands in free form, and the system is equipped with a built-in dialogue manager, which allows it to ask clarifying questions.


Rear seats

With the new "tidy" and the multimedia system figured out, but in the arsenal of "kushka" a lot of other modern equipment. Depending on the configuration, the crossover can count on heating both rows of seats, heating the steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, sports front seats, an electric fifth door, a rear view camera or a surround view system, background lighting with 30 colors, a panoramic roof, 680-watt Bang & Olufsen Premium surround sound system with 15 speakers.

The list of available electronic assistants includes adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, parking assistant, lane tracking, cross traffic control when reversing. The salon of the top versions of the Audi Q3 is trimmed with leather and Alcantara, and the latter, in addition to the seats, is also used for upholstery of the front panel with door armrests.

The second row of seats by all estimates should become more hospitable to passengers. The comfortable 40/20/40 foldable rear sofa can not only move back and forth within 150 mm, but also fix the backrest in seven positions. Rear-seat riders will have two of their own USB ports and a 12-volt socket, as well as a folding armrest with a pair of glass holders.

Well, a few words are left to say about the trunk. Its volume with a standard seat layout varies from 530 to 675 liters, that is, with the maximum forward shift of the rear sofa, the new crossover is able to take 215 liters of cargo more than its predecessor. The limiting capacity of the compartment reaches 1525 liters, and this is 160 liters higher than the pre-reform maximum volume formed after folding the backs of the second row seats.

Modifications to the new Audi Q3 will be introduced to the market gradually. As a result, buyers will be able to choose between five versions:

  • 35 TFSI with a 1.5-liter engine (150 HP, 250 Nm);
  • 40 TFSI with 2.0-liter unit (190 HP, 320 Nm);
  • 45 TFSI with the same 2.0 liter engine, but with 230 hp. and 350 Nm;
  • 35 TDI with 2.0-liter turbodiesel (150 PS, 340 Nm);
  • 40 TDI with 2.0-liter diesel engine (190 HP, 400 Nm).

There are two transmission options - a 6-speed "mechanics" and a robotic 7 S tronic gearbox. The drive is either front or full quattro type (the rear axle is connected using a multi-plate clutch). For an additional fee, it is proposed to install the Audi drive select mode switch with six preset settings. Also, in addition to the standard suspension with MacPheson struts in front and a four-link rear, a sports chassis with adjustable damping levels and progressive steering is available.

The new generation Audi Q3 SUV from the German manufacturer was presented at the end of July 2018. The new Audi Q3 looks sportier than its predecessor. Smooth and streamlined contours were replaced by sharp and clear edges. The stylish muscular stamping on the rear fenders, like the flagship Q8, is also not overlooked. The wheel rims are available in diameters from 17 to 20 inches, and are accentuated by the side skirts and multi-faceted bumpers. Available in 11 body colors.

INTERIOR: sporty and driver-oriented

A sporty character, swift lines, elements with a three-dimensional style - the interior continues the design of the exterior and echoes in many ways like full-size models of the brand. The instrument panel is divided into two levels: the upper part contains air vents, the lower one is a large octagonal area with a black screen. The dashboard has a Singleframe design and is surrounded by a wide chrome strip. A glossy black finish surrounds the centerpiece of the new concept: the MMI touchscreen display. Together with the controls, it is tilted 10 degrees towards the driver. The push button module for lighting functions, which replaces the rotating element on its predecessor, is slotted into the panel to the left of the steering wheel.

Audi has also developed a new concept of colors and materials. Q3 customers can choose between three options - the basic version, the design choice from Audi and the S line interior package. All packages include sports seats, which are optionally finished in a leather / synthetic leather and Alcantara combination. The Alcantara surfaces on the dashboard and on the door armrests, which are available in three colors, including orange, are a completely new solution.

Ambient LED interior lighting (selectable in 30 lighting colors) illuminates the storage compartment under the instrument panel as well as the quattro logo above the glovebox or Audi on front-wheel drive models. Other additions include dual-zone climate control, heated front and rear seats, steering wheel rims and a panoramic glass sunroof.

SPACE CONCEPT: large and adaptable

One of the niceties is the standardized division of space: the rear seats can be moved forward / backward by 150 millimeters. Their 40:20:40 three-piece backrests can be reclined in seven positions. Rear passengers also have a center armrest with two cup holders as standard. Depending on the position of the rear seats and backrests, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 530 or 675 liters. With the backrests up, the volume increases to 1525 liters. The electric tailgate provides easy access to the trunk. For convenience, it can also be opened and closed with a movement of the foot.

DIGITAL WORLD: controls and displays

The instrument cluster on the Audi Q3 II is electronic by default (the instruments are displayed on a 10.25 ″ screen), but for a display enlarged to 12.3 inches and a full-fledged Virtual cockpit, which allows you to choose the information display mode, you have to pay extra separately.

A range of hardware modules round out the infotainment portfolio. The Audi phone box connects the owner's smartphone to the vehicle's antenna and charges the phone. To play music from an MP3 player, USB stick or smartphone through the speakers, the Audi Q3 has two USB ports, one of which is a new type C. This innovation supports faster transfer rates and simplifies system connectivity. In addition, there are two USB connectors and a 12-volt connector for the rear of the car. The Audi smartphone interface links iOS and Android cell phones and puts Apple Car Play or Android Auto on the MMI display.

Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound delivers 3D sound. The sound system uses 15 speakers with a total output of 680 watts.

DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS: convenience and safety

The highlight of the 2019 Audi Q3 is the Adaptive Cruise Assistant, which is available in combination with the S tronic. It includes cruise control, traffic jam assist and lane keeping assist. The same applies to the lane change warning. If two radar sensors in the rear detect a vehicle in the blind spot or rapidly approaching from behind, a warning LED in the corresponding exterior mirror lights up.

Audi Q3 2018 comes standard with a safety system for the front passengers of the car. It detects critical situations involving pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles using radar and provides the driver with visual, audible and tactile warnings. It initiates emergency braking if necessary.

ENGINES AND SUSPENSION

As part of the launch, Audi is launching the new Q3 with four engines - three petrol and one diesel combined with front-wheel drive or quattro. Their power ranges from 110 kW (150 PS) to 169 kW (230 PS). All engines are turbocharged, four-cylinder direct injection systems. A six-speed manual transmission or a robotic seven-speed S tronic is used to transfer power. Later, the line will be expanded, including due to a 190-horsepower diesel engine, as well as "charged" versions of the SQ3 (~ 310 hp) and RS Q3 (~ 400 "horses"). The appearance of hybrids is not excluded, but the withdrawal of additional versions will occur gradually.

At the heart of the second generation of the compact crossover Audi Ku3 is the MQB modular platform. The suspension of all wheels is independent with McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link at the rear. In addition to the basic suspension, buyers are offered a more rigid version with sporty settings or an adaptive one. The control electronics modes include Auto, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-Road, Efficiency and Individual, which change the response to pressing the accelerator, steering effort, transmission and suspension.

At the end of July 2018, Audi fans saw the updated compact crossover Q3, the review of which confirmed that this was not another restyling from Audi, but the second generation of the car, which received not only a new design and a lot of electronic assistants, but also a new platform. In Russia, the start of sales is planned for early 2019.


Exterior

A small family car with good off-road qualities. At first glance, it becomes clear that this car is focused on sporting feats: the design is distinguished by restraint and confidence in the strength of the car. The body shape is typical for the entire Ku line: an even elongated hood smoothly merging into the side stamping and external rear-view mirrors sticking out directly from the doors, and not from the window frame. In the second generation, the Q3 acquired clearer lines and became angular.


The radiator grille has been redesigned: now its octagonal shape, characteristic of all SUVs from Ingolstadt, is accentuated by a chrome frame. Unlike Q5 and Q7, it has vertical baffles. On the sides there are boomerang-shaped headlights with downward curved corners. Front and rear optics in all versions are LED. The only option is the Audi Matrix system with adaptive lighting and dynamic turn signals.

The side stamping, smoothing the corners, will not be ignored either. The top line accentuates the handles, while the bottom line highlights the side sills with massive overlays. A large recess was made on the doors from one wheel arch to another. The shapes in the area of ​​the hind wings are especially prominent. From the back, the car looks like a real SUV. A small spoiler has appeared, thanks to the sloping rear pillars, the car looks wider. The lanterns have acquired a larger spread, and their illumination completely imitates the shape of the headlights. There are long side lights on the rear bumper. On the exterior, the new shape of the front and rear air intakes stands out. The sporty character of the car is emphasized by the roof rails.


The 2018 Audi Q3 comes with 17 "5-spoke cast aluminum wheels fitted with 215/65 R 17 tires. 18-20" wheels are optional. Wheel arches with neat stamping, contrasting extensions on them visually make the car taller.

Interior

Thanks to the transformation, the interior space of the car has expanded so much that now it can easily accommodate five people. The new Ku 3 has become a truly family car. First of all, the chairs have changed: even in the standard version, they received lateral support and small bumpers in the hip area. Electrically adjustable sports seats are available as an option. In the basic version, the interior trim is fabric; for an additional fee, you can choose a leather interior.

Thanks to the increased wheelbase, it is possible to play with the interior space, adjusting it to the individual parameters of the driver. The seats are horizontally and height adjustable: the front view for the driver in the new Audi Ku 3 has become wider. The rear seats have also become more comfortable, plus the function of their longitudinal adjustment and seven-position backs have been added to this. Each seat with a headrest. A fold-down armrest with two integrated cup holders is standard. Additional comfort is provided by the recesses on the rear of the driver's and passenger's seats.

The trunk of the new 2018-2019 Audi Q3 has noticeably increased, from 460 to 530 liters. Thanks to the adjustable backrests of the rear passenger row in the ratio 40:20:40 and the longitudinal adjustment of the sofa by 150 mm, it can be increased to 675 liters. With fully folded seats, this figure rises to 1525 liters.


A unique offer is the height adjustment of the luggage compartment floor, which allows the space behind the front seats to be completely leveled. In the standard position, the boot sill is only 748 mm, making it easier to load luggage. The shelf of the cargo compartment can be removed if necessary. There is also a luggage compartment lighting. Rear lid with electric drive, optionally, you can install a touch-sensitive trunk opening system with one movement of your foot.


The front console also features a geometric pattern. It is conventionally divided into two zones: in the upper there are airflow deflectors, and in the lower - all the working elements. Visually they are delimited by a wide chrome frame. In the center there is an 8.8-inch touchscreen monitor for the MMI system, which is tilted towards the steering wheel by 10 degrees for the convenience of the driver. In the 2019 Audi Q3, Ingolstadt ditched analogue scales. Now, even in the basic configuration, a 10.25-inch display is available in place of the familiar dashboard, and it is controlled by buttons on the steering wheel.


Additional options include 30 lighting options (standard in the Audi design selection), contrasting Alcantara inserts for the dashboard and door armrests, and a sports steering wheel with a tapered bottom edge. Lighting control is now possible using the buttons located to the left of the steering wheel. Not only the dashboard and doors are illuminated, but also the storage compartment in the center console and the quattro lettering or the Audi logo above the glove compartment.


Specifications

The car is presented with six four-cylinder engine options: four petrol and two diesel. The basic equipment received the simplest of them - 1.5 35 TFSI. For those who love a measured ride, this engine will be more than enough. For drive, it is better to choose a two-liter 45 TFSI quattro S tronic engine.

It is planned that later there will be a diesel with a capacity of 190 HP, and the presented versions of the engines will be introduced on sale gradually.
The characteristics of the technical capabilities of the second generation Audi Ku3 also depend on which gearbox the car is running on. It can be a six-speed manual or a seven-speed S tronic robot. Unlike the Q5, this car has a choice of drive: front-wheel drive modification or all-wheel drive quattro version. The developers did not introduce the quattro ultra system into the Ku-three, as everyone did in the same Ku-fifth.
The quattro system with Torsen differential guarantees optimum torque distribution when braking. This increases the directional stability of the car, prevents skidding when cornering at high speeds. Thanks to this system, the threat of an uncontrolled car as a result of loss of traction of the wheels with the road is reduced to zero.

The second generation Q3 is produced on the MQB platform with all its technical capabilities. Experts point out that the presence of assistants to prevent secondary collisions is of great importance for compact cars. In addition to the active safety system, the MQB also has passive assistants in the form of a balanced distribution of energy-absorbing zones.
The standard version offers classic McPherson front suspension and four-link rear suspension. It provides a smooth ride, copes well with unevenness. In the sport configuration, the suspension is stiffer, which, in combination with low-profile tires, is noticeably noticeable to passengers. In the top version, the stiffness of the shock absorbers is automatically adjusted with the choice of the driving mode. At the same time, the nature of the car's behavior on the road will also depend on which wheels it will move on: the larger the dimension, the more rigid the suspension will be, despite the selected mode.


Modern technologies

In addition to the basic digital instrument cluster, the Audi virtual cockpid can be fitted with a 12.3-inch screen. The information required by the driver is displayed on the panel individually.

You can expand the functionality of the car using MMI Navigation plus, and this is already a 10.1-inch screen and many additional functions: a navigator, a WiFi hotspot with up to 8 devices, remote control of car functions and Audi connect. Sitting in a brand new Audi Ku3, you can receive traffic in real time, search for optimal parking and gas stations, and receive a description of your destination. When installing the Audi connect Navigation & Infotainment system with the Google Earth integration service, the driver gets access to his email account, Twitter page, can read news, receive warnings about dangers on the way. Provides voice control of the multimedia system, and not only giving commands, but also receiving clarifying questions.
The updated Audi Ku 3 connects to the myAudi mobile application, thanks to which you can transfer data from your smartphone to the MMI system, and also easily find your car in the parking lot. To the left of the gear selector is a compartment for a mobile phone: the MMI works with iOS and Android systems and, when connected, controls its functions using the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto apps.
An optional 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen Sound System is available to order, delivering 3D sound with a total output of 680 watts. The basic version has two USB ports to listen to music from an MP3 player, USB stick or smartphone. In the standard version, six speakers are available in the new Ku-three: four in the instrument panel and two in the C-pillars.


In addition to the infotainment systems, there are many assistants. Among them - Adaptive Driving Assistant, installed on vehicles with a robotic gearbox. This assistant combines the functions of adaptive cruise control and a system for keeping a car in a given lane. This function is especially necessary when standing in traffic jams and congestion: the driver can rest, the car will do everything by itself.

The updated Ku third also received the modern Audi Drive Select system, which allows you to choose one of five driving modes: Efficiency, Auto, Comfort, Individual, Dynamic. They change the response of pressing the accelerator, the flexibility of the steering wheel, the stiffness of the shock absorbers. Among the important assistants are parking sensors, an all-round visibility system, an emergency braking function (triggered by pedestrians and cyclists), a safe door opening system that receives data from two radar sensors about the approach of another vehicle.

Analog cruise control stands out against the background of all digital devices. His control knob remained the same. The only change is its turning angle. Like the MMI screen, it is rotated 10 degrees towards the driver.
The new Audi Q3 attracts not only with its striking design, but also with its wide functionality. This is a car for both a large family and a single driver. Thanks to numerous assistants, it shows a high level of safety even in difficult road conditions.
