The development of a supercharger for the Galant, which a man from Perm was engaged in, was discussed.     As mentioned above, this car is far from new for the United States, and our overseas colleagues (for example, from the expert agency “Consumer Report”) have already sucked all the bones in it and carefully put them on the shelves. Their verdict is as follows: reliability is above average in the class, failure statistics are minimal, and the technique does not cause any complaints. But the “degree of customer satisfaction” (spoiled Americans have such a parameter for evaluating a car) leaves much to be desired. For some reason they don't like the new “Galant”. Even despite the fact that in passive safety tests (according to the NHTSA version adopted in the USA), he was awarded the highest award - five stars.

So, I dare say: the car is very quiet in all engine operating modes, aerodynamic noise and rustling of tires on the asphalt are also not annoying. Perhaps, among the changes made to the design, there was also improved sound insulation?

    But the version “Galant” dear to the American heart with a 3.8-liter V6 (which overseas experts consider even “too powerful”) is not in Russia and most likely will not be. It's a pity. The motor is very good, lively, although too, in my opinion, gluttonous. I suspect that the refusal to supply it was caused by the extremely high cost of the V6 modification. After all, even a “basic” car with an in-line “four”, crossing the ocean, rises in price by exactly $ 10,000.

    Caution, leaf fall!

    I DIDN'T HAVE to park the test "Mitsubishi Galant" in the editorial parking lot, as colleagues pounced on the questions:

    - Well, how do you like the new “Galant”?

    - Do not even know. It is hard to say...

    I really (without a shadow of coquetry) cannot answer this question unambiguously. The car makes a very good impression on the move. Spacious comfortable salon. Excellent sound insulation (it's not a sin to repeat it again). Excellent suspension performance and clear (and therefore safe) road behavior. "Galant" perfectly obeys the steering wheel and readily responds to pressing the accelerator. An adapted 4-cylinder engine, despite a slight loss of power, cannot be called a weakling. Perhaps, I am ready to agree with the American specialists that the 230-horsepower V6 in this case is rather an excess than a necessity. The dynamics of the car and without it enough.

    And the most important thing is that “Galant” holds the road very tenaciously. Sometimes even unrealistically tenacious. Wet asphalt. A quick dangerous turn. The roll is large enough that the suspension travel seems to be fully selected. And if the turn is even steeper? I turn on the throttle and turn the steering wheel at the same time, trying to provoke a slip. No matter how it is! The car, accelerating, willingly "dives" to a steeper trajectory. At the same time, all four wheels remain in close contact with the road. Excellent! It is possible to break the car into a slip only on a carpet of yellow fallen leaves. Sometimes they are worse than ice. All the tricks of the chassis designers sometimes pass before them ...

    Undoubtedly, such a commendable behavior of the car is due to both the complex multi-link independent suspension (both front and rear) and the Yokohama tires installed on the Russian versions of the Galant. By the way, in America, if my memory serves me, Galant is equipped with tires of one of the most affordable Goodyear models. Another point in favor of “our” car.

    These are all pluses. And the cons? Firstly, it is a sluggish, inexpressive (in my opinion) appearance. Secondly, the interior is somewhat old-fashioned and unassuming. And thirdly, the relative (in comparison with competitors) poverty of the bundle. And not only the basic one.

    By adapting Galant to Russian operating conditions, engineers made more than 300 changes to its design.

    In our market, "Galant" is sold in two versions of equipment - "Intense" and more expensive "Instyle". There is no third. Both options include a 2.4-liter engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission (with manual gear shifting), 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS, cruise control and basic climate control. In general, the minimum that you will not surprise anyone with cars of this class today.

    The Instyle also features an electric glass sunroof, leather seats, a power driver's seat and a cool Rockford Fosgate audio system. In addition, pseudo-wooden lining appears in the cabin (for some reason, dirty gray), and the steering wheel is covered with artificial leather. Strange, is it possible that after cutting the upholstery of the seats, there is no shred left for the steering wheel cover? ..

    The audio system is really quite good. I really liked. Captured disc "Midnight Oil 20.000 Watt R.S.L." sounds, shall we say, convincing. Drive is more than enough. The subwoofer "punches" through the chest. But Vivaldi's concert performed by the same system somehow did not impress me ...

    Everything else looks pretty modest. But the new “Galant” will have to compete in its price segment with “Hyundai NF”, “Toyota Camry”, “Nissan Teana” ... The list can not be continued. The company of competitors is serious. In addition, "Mitsubishi Galant" is the oldest (by year of development) car in this list ... However, in our market, "Galant" has a colossal advantage: you can come and buy it. Straightaway. At least now dealers have live cars. For some, this factor will probably be decisive. And my opinion: “Mitsubishi Galant” is a great car for those who are looking for a reliable means of transportation in a car. A friend of mine who is a fan of the previous “Galant” is unlikely to be thrilled with the new one.

    RETROSPECTIVE

    Past generation models

    In Russia, the Galantas of the two previous generations were officially sold. The seventh "Mitsubishi Galant" (photo above) appeared on our market back in 1993 (the same year when the world premiere of the model took place). And in 1997, it was replaced by another model (photo below), which was supplied to our country until 2003.
    THE LATER "Galant" was equipped with a 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 1.8 liters (115 hp) and two V6 - 2-liter (150 hp) and the flagship 2.5-liter, producing 170 hp. Diesel versions with a 2-liter 90-horsepower engine were also sold in Europe, but such cars were not supplied to us.

    When the generation changed, the base for the "Galant" was a 2-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 133 hp. (145 - for modification with direct fuel injection GDI). In addition to it, a 2.4-liter engine was produced (144 hp or 150 for the GDI version). The 2.5-liter V6 remains the flagship engine.
