All this brought them to the point that in 1994, for the first time, a GAZ 3307 with a turbodiesel rolled off the assembly line. But it was no longer GAZ 3307, as it began to be called, although the only difference between these models was only in the engine, and there was also an air intake pipe on a diesel engine. Rumor has it that he received the number 3309 due to the fact that the developers were too lazy to constantly say GAZ 3307 with diesel engine, and among themselves they called it GAZ 3309. So this car stuck to it, this is the name.

Time passed, and GAZ 3309 grew and developed by leaps and bounds. And after 2 years, the GAZ 3309 was so strong that it was able to push out conveyor production his gasoline brother GAZ 3307. But this was not the end of their battle. In 1997, the GAZ plant concluded that it was not profitable for it to produce the GAZ 3309 turbodiesel, and it, in turn, was discontinued, and instead of it, everyone's favorite GAZ 3307 with a gasoline heart was launched again. In 2001, GAZ 3309 was able to get on its feet, and the battle between 3307 and 3309 began again in the field of conveyor production.

In 1992, the Gorky Automobile Plant produced a batch of GAZ-3307, which received Japanese units hino. However, demand this version did not use. Instead of buying foreign engines, the company began producing its own diesel engines.

In the early 90s, the carburetor version was completely forced out of the assembly line. However, demand soon fell for diesel modifications of the GAZ-3307. The model, especially popular in agriculture, after the collapse of the collective farms, no one needed it. Diesel production eventually became unprofitable. The plant continued to produce only petrol variants in limited quantities.

Gorky Automobile Plant offered various modifications of the model:

  7. SAZ-3507-01 - a dump truck based on GAZ-33072 with a body volume of 5 cubic meters, a load capacity of 4130 kg and 3-way unloading;
  8. SAZ-35072 is a dump truck with a load capacity of 4250 kg, a body volume of 4.5 cubic meters and 1-way unloading.

Since 2000, the GAZ-3307 has been used various brands for the release of modifications with an elongated frame. Such versions retained the same carrying capacity, but could carry larger loads.

GAZ-33078 modifications were equipped with a Japanese 136-horsepower Hino W04CT diesel engine. However, the model, released in 1992, was not widely used.

In 1994, the Gorky Automobile Plant launched the production of diesel units in their own spaces. 5 liter 4-cylinder power plants had a rated power of 122 hp. and equipped with a turbocharger and an air-cooled system.

GAZ-3307, unlike its predecessor, received a sprung driver's seat with the ability to adjust the backrest angle and in the horizontal plane. The truck cab was designed in accordance with the trends Soviet period and had an angular shape. At the same time, in comparison with older versions, much more space appeared in the cabin. Good thermal insulation made it comfortable to stay in the cabin while driving. The cabin of the model was borrowed from the experimental development of the GAZ-4301, presented in 1984. Additionally, the car was equipped with an autonomous starting preheater allowing you to start the engine without problems in the cold season. Another feature of the model was the air intake pipe running along the hood.

On petrol modifications GAZ-3307 was installed 4-speed mechanical box gear, on diesel versions- 5-speed gearbox. At the same time, it was possible to distinguish a 4-speed gearbox by the characteristic howl emitted during movement.

Power steering appeared for the first time in the steering mechanism. The design itself underwent minor modifications and was a globoidal worm, supplemented with a three-ridged roller. Later, a new mechanism appeared with a screw and ball nut, which allowed to reduce the effort on the steering wheel.

The car was equipped with standard drum-type brakes with a hydraulic vacuum booster and hydraulic drive. Parking brake was on the transmission and was mechanical.

The suspension in the GAZ-3307 has not been changed. The truck had the ability to install an awning and a side. A durable and reliable chassis made it possible to carry heavy loads, therefore it was used for installation various bodies(tow trucks, dump trucks, vans, etc.).
