If the clutch is necessary to transfer torque from the engine to the transmission, the gearbox is used to change it depending on the driving conditions. The box provides the car to move in reverse and the long-term separation of the transmission from the engine.

The ZIL-130 gearbox has 5 forward gears and one for backward movement. The box has 3 shafts. Primary, secondary and intermediate, as well as 2 inertial synchronizers. The gears mounted on the shafts can be grouped in the required combination and receive gear ratios corresponding to a particular gear.

Box ZIL -130 scheme

Moving the driven shaft gear forward engages the first gear. 2nd gear is engaged by moving the synchronizer clutch back. If you move the synchroniser sleeve forward, the 3rd gear will be engaged. By moving the clutch 2 of the synchronizer backward, the 4th gear is engaged. If you move the clutch of the same forward synchronously, the 5th gear will be engaged. The intermediate shaft does not participate in the transmission of torque. Reverse is activated by moving the 1st gear gear until it is turned on with the reverse gear block.

A gearbox in which the change in torque is made in magnitude by changing the gear ratio. The most widespread are the stepped ones:

gearboxes, where the change in the gear ratio is carried out by increasing or decreasing the gear ratio of the gears. Mechanisms that change the gear ratio continuously within certain limits are called continuously variable transmissions.

»Continuously variable transmissions of the following types are used on cars: hydraulic (hydrodynamic and hydrostatic, otherwise called hydrostatic), mechanical (frictional and impulse) and electric.

The most widely used as continuously variable transmissions are hydrodynamic converters-torque converters, which are usually installed in combination with stepped or planetary gearboxes. Such transmissions are called hydromechanical.

Stepped gearboxes are relatively simple in design and cheaper than continuously variable transmissions, however, the number of gear ratios they have is limited from three to five.

On vehicles with off-road and carrying capacity, the number of gears is increased due to the use of an additional gearbox. The higher the gear ratio of the meshed gears, the greater the torque will be.

Stepped gearboxes have forced manual control, and planetary and stepless, mostly semi-automatic and automatic. A five-speed gearbox is shown in Fig. 131. The primary (drive) shaft 1 is connected through a clutch to the crankshaft of the engine. The secondary (driven) shaft is, as it were, a continuation of the primary shaft and is located with it on the same axis.

One end of the output shaft is mounted on a roller bearing 10 installed at the end of the input shaft, so the output shaft can rotate independently of the primary; the second end of the shaft is installed in a ball bearing 8.

Gears are mounted on the intermediate shaft 9. All of them, except for the first gear gear, are made separately and fixed on it with dowels. To reduce operating noise and increase durability, the gears, which are in constant engagement, are helical.

A feature of the design of the ZIL-130 car box is the presence of constant mesh gears on the secondary shaft. These gears, thanks to a special treatment (phosphating) of the mating surfaces of the shaft and the gears of their grooves for lubrication, are installed on the shaft without special bushings and bearings.

In a gearbox of the MAZ-500 type, the needle bearings of the output shaft gears, which are in constant mesh, are lubricated with oil ... under pressure. For this, a gear oil pump is installed opposite the front end of the intermediate shaft on the outside of the gearbox housing, which is driven in rotation from the front end of the intermediate

shaft. The gears are turned on by moving the gear along the splines of the shaft, But in this case, the impact of the teeth is inevitable, since the peripheral speeds of the gears are different. For easy and shockless gear shifting, it is necessary that the circumferential speeds of the gears brought into engagement are the same.

The peripheral speed of a gear depends on the number of revolutions of the shaft on which it is installed and on its diameter: the larger the diameter of the gear and the number of revolutions of the shaft, the greater its peripheral speed. To align the peripheral speeds of the gears before engaging them, a special synchronizer mechanism is used, which ensures their silent and shockless engagement.

SYNCHRONIZER

Synchronizers provide silent turn-on. The difference in the speed of the synchronizer clutch and the engagement of the gear is smoothly leveled due to the frictional force arising between them. The gearbox shift mechanism has a locking device that holds the shift rods in the required position.

The synchronizer for buses LAZ-695, LAZ-697 and the car ZIL-130 (Fig. 132) works as follows.

When the clutch 11 is moved to the left with the shift fork, the tapered bronze ring will move with it and press against the tapered surface of the gear 1. The tapered rings 7 and the clutch]] are not rigidly interconnected, but through three fixing pins 5 with balls and a spring. Gear 1 and rings 7 rotate at different peripheral speeds. Until, due to the frictional force, these speeds are equal, the coupling 11 will be displaced (Fig. 132, b).

Both bronze rings 7 are rigidly connected to each other by means of pins 12. The coupling 11 will move until the conical surface 10 of the coupling abuts against the conical surface 9 of the pin (Fig. 132, a and d). When the speeds of the rings 7 of the synchronizer and the cone of the gear 1 equalize, the pin 12 will be located in the center of the hole of the clutch 11, the blocking conical surfaces will separate (Fig. 132, c and e), and the clutch will continue to move. Its outer teeth 13 will mesh with the inner teeth of the gear of the shaft 1, which will thus be connected by means of a synchronizer with the driven shaft 14.

PTO power take-off.

Its name hints at the fact that it takes some of the engine torque and transfers it to special mechanisms. It can be a hydraulic pump or attachments for municipal equipment. KOM works in close connection with the gearbox, and is switched on from the cab of the vehicle. This small device carries a huge amount of work and work.

Therefore, they always strive to make it strong and durable. There are 2 types of PTO dependent and clutch independent. The first one works when the engine is idling. The dependent PTO is easy to install and requires almost no maintenance. They are mounted on a manual transmission and switched on by the driver from the cab. Independent KOM can work both with mechanics and with an automatic machine.

It is installed on concrete mixers, road cleaning equipment, agricultural machines. The place of registration of the KOM can become a gearbox, transfer case, engine or the space between the engine and the gearbox. The KOM is a highly durable unit, but even it can break.

Often, breakdowns are visible immediately, the COM either stops turning on normally, or starts making loud noise. Problems are solved in different ways, starting with a simple tightening of the nuts and ending with a complete disassembly of the PTO. In any case, without the appropriate knowledge and skills, self-repair of the PTO is not recommended by the manufacturer.

Every motorist who has ever encountered driving a ZIL 130 or 131 car will say with confidence that there are practically no obstacles for this "iron horse". However, if this is the first time you sit behind the wheel of such a unit, then you will probably be interested in the ZIL 130 gearshift scheme. Moreover, it is quite original and unusual for an ordinary motorist.

How is the gearbox of the ZIL 130 car arranged?

ZIL 130 and 131 cars are equipped with a three-way five-speed manual gearbox. The gearbox of this vehicle allows the driver to move forward at five speeds and back at one. You can find a drawing of the device below. As you can see in the diagram, the ZIL 130 and 131 gearbox is equipped with two inertial synchronizers, which include the second and third, as well as the fourth and fifth.

The drive shaft together with a gear and a toothed ring for activating the fifth (direct) speed is mounted in the crankcase on bearings. In addition, a cylindrical roller bearing is mounted in the bore of the pulley itself, and on it, in turn, the secondary pulley rests. The intermediate shaft in the ZIL 130 and 131 box is mounted in the lower crankcase compartment. Another gear is installed on this shaft, which is in regular mesh with the disk of the primary shaft (PV). Here, the developers of models 130 and 131 decided to install the wheels of the second, third and fourth speeds.

In addition, spur gears are mounted on the cardan, designed to activate the reverse (reverse) gear and the first gear. Also, the activation of these modes is provided by the spur gear wheel and synchronizer components mounted on the splines of the secondary pulley.

In addition, additional gears are mounted on the secondary shaft:

  • to engage second gear;
  • to activate the third mode;
  • to enable the fourth.

And these gear rings, during operation, are in constant adhesion to the wheels mounted on the intermediate disc. The reverse movement unit is mounted on special roller bearings, which are located on an axle in the crankcase. Here they are installed quite securely. The reversing block cardan also works in engagement with the idler pulley by means of additional wheels.

As for the inside of the crankcase, working fluid is poured here, so this part is always closed from debris and dust. The mechanism itself for switching is also installed here. It should be noted that the mechanism for switching the box to the ZIL 130 and 131 is based on its principle in the same way as on the GAZ 53.

Switching circuit

The switching scheme for the ZIL 130 and 131 gearbox is presented below. In general, the scheme is original, but if you believe the words of ZILovodov, you can get used to it very quickly.

How does the transmission of a car of this brand work?

When the first speed is activated at the gearbox of the car of model 130 and 131, the gear wheel begins to move along the grooves and engages with the cardan of the first gearbox mode on the intermediate shaft. In this case, the torque begins to transfer from the primary pulley through gears and other auxiliary elements to the secondary disc. The gear ratio is 7.44.

When the motorist turns on the second speed, the clutch installed on the synchronizer begins to act on the teeth of the gear of this transmission. As a result of the fact that this component is already functioning from the components of the intermediate gear, the torque begins to transfer from the primary to the secondary. In this case, the moment passes through all the wheels with teeth, as well as the synchronizer cardan. In this case, the gear ratio will be 4.1.

In the event that the driver activates the third speed, the synchronizer disc stops acting on the parts and elements of the second gear. The clutch will go along the splines and get into the clutch with the third-mode component of the gearbox of models 130 or 131. And this element, in turn, is already engaged with the third-speed wheel of the intermediate cardan. Thus, the torque begins to transfer from the PV through the auxiliary elements and the clutch to the secondary pulley. The gear ratio is 2.29.

What may be needed additionally?

Here we collect a variety of information on conversions.
What details and documents might be required.
The page is under construction. Information is collected from those who have passed the process.
Who knows what share information.

Regarding the registration in the MREO of the converted car:

According to our data, first the car must be submitted to the MREO with the old engine for inspection, to obtain permission for re-equipment from the head of MREO or the deputy there is a special application form.
Next, get the conclusion of a specialized institute (NAMI) on the possibility of this alteration, with a list of works and possible places of execution. The conclusion should indicate the service number of the service, which is in the certificate.
Next, find a service with the required certificate, re-equip them, or buy documents.
After that, provide the machine for instrumental control at the diagnostic station. Then again in MREO.

More nuances:

1. Gearbox BYCHKA and ZIL-130 are practically one-to-one, only rearrange the input shaft or shorten the input shaft from the ZIL-130 by about 3 cm. The difference arises from the size of the clutch housing Bychka and ZIL-130.
2. Here is the front support bracket - factory and no snot from the channels.
Don't reinvent the wheel, everything has been invented long ago.

We have brackets.

3. The original ZIL-508 gasoline engine is more high-speed, while the D245 diesel engine has a lower rotational speed.

The gear ratios of the gearbox were matched to a more revving engine, because of this, the speed of the converted car from the native 130th gearbox will drop.
You can put up with this (the car speed will be within 60 km / h), or you can put an accelerated gearbox 432930 (art. 3206-1700004-20).
The speed will increase by 20-30 km / h.
It also happens that people change the rear axle gearbox and put rubber of a larger diameter.

4. An intercooler is needed or not needed, you decide.
