The new Volkswagen Polo takes the form of a crossover. The new Volkswagen Cross Polo debuted in Geneva

We have already mentioned that among the new products Geneva Motor Show 2010 at the stand of Volkswagen will be presented hot hatchback based on the fifth generation Polo. So here's a guide the other day German concern announced that it will also introduce the all-terrain version CrossPolo II in Switzerland.

The Volkswagen CrossPolo differs from the standard hatchback by 15 mm more ground clearance, a new front bumper with a large grille and built-in foglights, scratch-resistant plastic skirts, and stylish 17-inch five-spoke wheels.

Options and prices Volkswagen Cross Polo 2014

The interior of the car will please with a combined two-tone finish of the seats and door panels, leather on the steering wheel and gear lever, metal pedals and CrossPolo logos on the seatbacks.

The new Volkswagen Cross Polo is offered six power units. Petrol 1.2-liter 70 hp 1.2 liter TSI with 105 hp and a 1.4-liter 85 hp. as well as 1.6-liter diesels TDI power 75, 90 and 105 HP

The first cars will go to dealers in Germany at the end of May, and later Volkswagen CrossPolo II will be sold in the rest of Europe, as well as in the markets of Japan and South Africa. Estimated prices from 15,500 euros.

In Russia, you can buy a Volkswagen Cross Polo only with a 1.4-liter gasoline 85-horsepower engine and a 7-speed DSG robot, the price of such a hatchback is 732,000 rubles.

Tiguan, Teramont, T-Roc, Tharu, Tayron… In the crossover segment, Volkswagen has chosen a carpet bombing strategy, one by one introducing SUVs to world markets different sizes. So we meet another novelty: Volkswagen T-Cross has become the smallest and affordable crossover brands, and with global ambitions. Although, strictly speaking, there is little crossover in it.

Longer and taller

T-Cross is based on a modular MQB platform-A0 and is a type of hatchback but with original body. Remember the tall hatchback golf plus based on the "fifth" Golf? So T-Cross is converted from Polo according to exactly the same recipe.

It is 54 mm longer and 97 mm higher than the original hatchback (4107 and 1558 mm respectively), while wheelbase(2563 mm) and width (1750 mm) are the same for the two machines. The inhabitants of the cabin sit 10 cm higher than in the Polo - and this is perhaps the most clear sign"crossover" along with black lining on the sills and wheel arches. Choose from 16", 17" or 18" wheels.

Practicality

The main feature of the cabin is the longitudinal adjustment of the rear sofa, which is usually found on monocabs and some crossovers. On all versions of the Ticross, the triple seat can be moved back and forth by 14 cm. The minimum trunk volume is 385 liters versus 351 liters for the Polo. If you move the second row all the way forward, then the compartment will hold 455 liters, and the maximum volume with the folded back row- 1281 liters. If you plan to carry long items, you can order a folding backrest for the front passenger seat.

The interior design is generally the same as new Polo: the screen of the media system is embedded in the front panel, but because of this, it was necessary to lower the central ventilation vents to the level of the elbows.

An interesting point: a high landing and a raised front panel made it possible to carve out a place for an emergency button on the center console, while in Polo it is located in the passenger area. Two rows of seats are installed in an amphitheater: the rear ones are 55 mm higher than the front ones.

Supercharged only

The MQB-A0 platform implies a non-alternative "beam" in rear suspension. Also, the absence all-wheel drive: T-Cross in all versions has only two driving wheels. The simplest versions have drum rear brakes. There are four engines to choose from.

The base SUV has a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI turbo engine (95 hp) and a five-speed “mechanics”. Such a car can accelerate to 100 km / h in 11.5 seconds and gain 180 km / h. The forced turbo 1.0 TSI (115 hp) is aggregated with a six-speed “mechanics” or a seven-speed “robot” DSG: 9.9 s to “hundreds” and a maximum of 193 km / h, regardless of the gearbox.

The most frisky T-Cross has a 1.5 TSI turbo four (150 hp) with the function of deactivating two cylinders at low loads. Such cars are only supposed to have a DSG preselective, acceleration time to 100 km / h - 7.8 s, maximum speed - 220 km / h. Well, for the most unhurried and economical - T-Cross with a four-cylinder 1.6 TDI diesel engine (95 hp): the variant with a mechanical five-step exchanges a "hundred" in 12.0 s, and with a "robot" - in 12.4 s. Max Speed- 180 and 181 km / h, respectively.

Euro equipment

There are three configurations to choose from: basic without a name, Life and Style. Standard equipment includes four power windows, LED rear lights, media system with a 6.5-inch screen, stamped wheels, adjustment driver's seat in height, as well as systems automatic braking and lane retention. But you have to pay extra for air conditioning.

But the list of options by the standards of the class is very rich. There are dual-zone climate control, virtual instruments, an eight-inch multimedia screen, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and a 300-watt Beats audio system. Also offered are the Design and R-Line style packages, which differ in the decor of the body and interior. There are twelve basic body colors to choose from, but later there will be two-tone options in the range.

Global perspectives?

The Volkswagen T-Cross will be produced at the same plant in Pamplona, Spain, where they make Polo hatchbacks for Europe (one billion euros was invested in the modernization of the site). Prices in Germany will start from the same 18 thousand euros that are asked for the base Golf. For comparison: Polo costs from 13 thousand, and the "senior" crossover Volkswagen T-Roc- at least 20600 euros. Later, the model will appear in China and South America, and the "adapted" versions will differ not only in body design, but also engine range and wheelbase length.

What's up with Russian perspectives? Alas, the official position Volkswagen nothing to please. Although marketers, of course, are studying the possibility of bringing Ticross to our market. And for some reason they see the main competitor Renault Captur(from 944 thousand rubles, 17,460 cars sold in the first seven months of this year), although, given the more modest dimensions and the lack of all-wheel drive, one should rather equal Kia Soul(from 952 thousand rubles, 9413 cars sold).

But Volkswagen understands that without local assembly success will not be achieved: the imported T-Cross of the Spanish assembly will be too expensive. We add that the basic naturally aspirated engine, which will attract conservative buyers. Alas, neither Russian assembly, nor cheap motor have not yet been officially announced. But if Volkswagen does invest in localization and adaptation, consumers will only benefit.

PHOTOS FROM THE PRESENTATION ADDED:

Even in the parking lot "Volkswagen Polo" with the prefix "Cross" does not go unnoticed. Noticeable color (there are six of them in the palette), wide plastic overlays, expanders wheel arches, a powerful front “lip” (also, by the way, plastic, painted like aluminum) attracts attention. Something from the "rogue" in the "Cross Polo" is clearly visible. But why didn’t they install a soundproofing screen under the hood and rubber seals? Engine compartment would be cleaner extra sounds in the cabin - less.

The inside is no less beautiful than the outside. A cheerful gray-orange interior is able to bring a positive attitude into gloomy working days. Complementing the picture are contrasting stitching on the lever covers. parking brake and robot DSG. The white characters on the screens of the climate control and audio system, which replaced the blue ones, are easy to read even when daylight, and in the dark.

The front seats have height adjustment, but you will have to pay extra for heating. Although the pillows are fabric, there is not enough heat in winter, especially when you get into the car in the morning. The salon warms up quite quickly, but heating should be brought in basic equipment. However, this wish applies not only to Volkswagen.

The rear sofa is not the most spacious in the class. The backrest unfolds in a ratio of 60:40, increasing the volume of the trunk. I even managed to shove alpine skis 177 cm long - they fit right in.

ORANGE MOOD

"Cross Polo" is offered only with a 1.4-liter 85-horsepower engine. It works in tandem with a 7-speed DSG. In D mode, the robot is tuned for maximum fuel economy.

… The speed is about 70 km / h, and the smart transmission has already switched to seventh gear. Hatchback accelerates lazily. Behind, the driver of a large off-road vehicle is already fidgeting nervously. It does not buzz, apparently, only because bright color in wildlife warns of danger.

Position D of the gearbox lever has the right to life, say, in traffic jams. And in the business turmoil of the metropolis, it is much more efficient to pull the selector as far back as possible by turning on the S mode. The response to the gas pedal will become sharper, and the box will allow you to turn the engine up to 4000 rpm. Now, when braking, the robot actively switches down. Completely different feeling! And there is enough power to rebuild or overtake. But noisy: the engine is already ringing, it is worth driving more energetically than usual. And most of the sounds from the street are clearly audible in the car.

But for the way the "Cross Polo" is controlled, he even forgave him for the noise. For a long time I could not get rid of the feeling that rear axle taxis itself, helping to clearly prescribe turns. The suspension is dense, imperceptibly swallows small road seams. In the base on the hatchback they put wheels with the 45th profile: with such control should be even sharper than that of test car. And if something goes wrong, the system will help dynamic stabilization. But it needs to be ordered separately.

At first glance, 711,000 rubles for such a car is a bit much. After all, it only seems like a crossover. But, what is certain, you will get a richly equipped hatchback with good ground clearance and a bright personality. And as a gift - orange mood.

CROSS TERRAIN

Having measured ground clearance Volkswagen Cross Polo and our Polo Sedan were surprised: the difference is only 5 mm, taking into account the size of the wheels. On the orange car - 170 mm, on the red - 165 mm. Low point plastic bumper higher just for the sedan: 190 mm versus 170. That is, it is safer to park near a high curb on a Russian Volkswagen. But 170 mm of clearance, of course, is quite a decent result for the Cross. Say, for Suzuki-SX4, this figure is 165 mm, and for Renault-Sandero Stepway, according to the manufacturer, it is 175 mm.

On both Polos, only a plastic apron covers the front of the engine, which in deep snow scoops it up like a shovel, or simply comes off. If you often travel out of town, be sure to put steel protection. You can buy a non-original for 2000 rubles, and for your own you will have to pay about 7000 rubles.

On a winter track, the sedan rides more confidently thanks to more powerful motor(105 hp) and, of course, Nokian-Hakkapelita 7 studded tires with a directional pattern. Plastic "lip" front bumper"Cross" strives to work as a snowplow. The motor of 85 forces, I repeat, is rather weak. Where the sedan rakes out under traction, the lifted hatchback folds. By the way, no electronics like traction control no hatchback. In a word, in deep snow not a wheel!

A SMALL INCREASE IN CLEARANCE AND A PLASTIC FABRIC DID NOT MAKE A FULL CROSSOVER FROM A HATCHBACK, BUT ADDED TO IT POSITIVE QUALITIES.

Exclusive photos show how the crossover will look like, which will take place in the Volkswagen lineup below the Tiguan.

Volkswagen has confirmed that it intends to create a competitor to the powerful in its segment Nissan Juke, with its new crossover based on the Polo and exclusive photos speak of the seriousness of the Germans. Here's what it will be possible competitor Nissan Juke.

The yet-to-be-named model will sit below the VW Tiguan in the lineup. Volkswagen models. The flexible VW Group MQB platform will be used as the basis for the crossover architecture, the drive of the city crossover is only the front. All around it is clear that new crossover very similar to sister models SEAT and Skoda. New model will be the missing brick in the wall that VW is building in an attempt to become the most a major manufacturer crossovers in the world.

Heinz-Jakob Neuser, Board Member for technical development VW said: "The B-segment crossover is a great addition to our rich lineup."

New Volkswagen Jetta smashed in studies, the results satisfied the testers [Video]

“In the future, we will have at least one crossover in every segment, ranging from the top-of-the-line Touareg SUV to models based on the MQB platform and a number of derivatives, including the Golf and Polo crossovers. Main markets for Polo crossovers will be China, South America and Europe."

With the launch of new competitors in the ultra profitable and very popular segment, small urban crossovers such as the Mazda CX-3 or Honda HR-V this year, Volkswagen has less and less time to play its combination and take its piece of the pie.

As Nissan proved, with the help of its mini crossover, this class is open to catchy design, unusual solutions and bold ideas, and VW, understanding where and where the wind of change and big earnings are blowing, gladly entered the race, showing its vision of the topic with the help of the T-ROC concept. at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014.

The concept had a three-door body and quite unusual, attractive design. In order to create a more realistic five-door version from the prototype, English designers needed a little knowledge, perseverance and imagination, and now we have a five-door crossover, which VW will most likely bet on in the development of the line in the near future.

VW Group of America President and CEO Michael Horn puts it this way. In his opinion on this moment automotive companies churning out crossovers like crazy. And now the priority task is to create the following Tiguan generations and development mid-size crossovers in Volkswagen lineup, and only later will it be possible to develop derivative cars, more expensive or cheaper than the cost of their "donors".

“We need to respond quickly to what is happening in the market and what buyers want in a particular vehicle segment.”

As an experiment, VW will build the most small SUV in the lineup not as a separately developed car, but based on the long-established Polo. Also let's not forget Taigun, compact crossover VW which is also based on another model, in this case VW!up. First shown two years ago, it is still going through the review stage. Marketers and other Volkswagen specialists are calculating how justified the launch of a new crossover will be and whether it will eventually be given a green light.

The Polo crossover will join the new versions and the Touareg (both coming in 2016) and two new full-size crossovers on the MQB platform. In addition, the concept of which we could observe not so long ago. And we are waiting for a new crossover Cross Coupe GTE, the concept of which was presented at the Detroit Motor Show.

In general, as Volkswagen promised, there will be a lot of new products, and one of the most important new things one way or another relate to the crossover class. How more SUVs will be created in different segments market, the greater the chance of big profits which are so necessary for global automakers for their qualitative further development.
