There is only one note about visibility - due to the high location of the lower edge of the rear window and the sloping trunk lid, the extreme rear clearance is not visible. Most often we come across "thirty" equipped with two gasoline engines of 2.4 and 3.0 liters. These versions were officially supplied to Ukraine. But on the "Americans" can be 2.0- and 3.3-liter units.

4-cylinder engines with a volume of 2.0 and 2.4 liters are equipped with a proprietary variable valve timing system VVT-i, so they are economical and high-torque at low revs. In addition, 4-pot and V6 engines (3.0L and 3.3L) use an ignition system with individual coils for each of the spark plugs, which makes the ignition more reliable. According to the minders, both systems generally do not pose a problem.

Sometimes we have versions under the hood of which are hidden units borrowed from the single-platform Lexus ES - a "charged" 213-horsepower 3.0-liter engine with VVT-i and a 5-speed "automatic".

No typical malfunctions with the "thirty" engines were revealed during operation. Some motors have already traveled about 300 thousand km and do not yet require the intervention of mechanics. Unless due to the use of low-quality fuel, lambda probes fail. Actually, the Camry (30) units are "disposable" - their cylinder blocks are made of aluminum alloy, and it is impossible to make them "capital". There are not even overhaul dimensions of the cylinder-piston group.

Note that V6 versions are more of a hassle to maintain. In the timing belt of 6-cylinder engines, a belt is used, which must be changed along with the rollers every 150 thousand km (the period for the original spare part). 4-cylinder engines have a chain that can withstand the entire life of the unit. Thanks to the powerful amplifier, the steering wheel is light, which is pleasant when maneuvering in tight parking lots. But at high speeds, the steering is not very informative. Structurally, the suspension is similar to its predecessor Camry (20) - McPherson is used in front, and a multi-link is used at the rear, although their parts are not interchangeable. The chassis is quite durable, most often (after 30-40 thousand km) only the bushings of the anti-roll bars will have to be changed. The stabilizer struts travel about 70 thousand km on heavy versions with V6 engines and about 100 thousand km on 4-cylinder ones. The rest of the "consumables" last even longer. So, the silent blocks of the front levers and ball joints can run about 200 thousand km, the bushings of the rear longitudinal rods - 100-150 thousand km, and the transverse ones - even more. The cost of maintenance is increased by the fact that the "rubber bands" are supplied together with the front levers (spare part -1079 UAH), and the rear bearings - together with hubs (spare part - about 2900 UAH).

By 300 thousand km, the lower crosspiece of the steering shaft may fail (spare part - 750-1000 UAH). The steering rods are capable of serving 100-150 thousand km.

There are problems with the brake discs in the brake system - they are deformed. This happens when cold water gets on a hot disc after active braking.

Drive is not for her

A used Toyota Camry (30) is still a prestigious vehicle and will be perfect for buyers demanding a comfortable car. And in this regard, the car will not disappoint: even the basic versions are well "stuffed". The soft, energy-intensive suspension and soft steering contribute to a relaxed ride. In August last year I bought a 3.0 liter Camry 2004. I wanted one from the moment of their first release, but at that time there was not enough money. When the opportunity arose, I bought it. I asked a classmate, he works at the Toyota Center on tin cans and painting. The car, according to the tradein system, went to the salon for sale, he climbed into it and bought it in May, and he blabbed it to me. I'm on fire! I WANT, stuck to him - give it back. He needed to solve the housing problem, and that's what they decided. I bought it, I go.

The first owner of the car drove with a driver, mostly on the highway. Therefore, after the purchase, a classmate changed all links, silent blocks, rubber bands and other suspension. I changed all the racks to the original. It would be possible to ride on those, but in winter the rear ones on the waves collapsed to the bumpers and then the car swayed slightly. With a mileage of 126,000, the native racks didn't even sweat !? Changed with all the personal belongings, even the front springs. I thought that the front would rise a lot, but no, not much. But I had one hemorrhoid - after replacing the struts, they made wheel alignment, so after a couple of days I feel that I'm pulling to the left. Came to the service again. You did something wrong, - I say. They redid it without question, but at the end they said that in general it always happens when you put new springs, they sit down in a couple of days under the weight of the car and mine, so the toe is gone. Now everything is smooth.

A month later, I began to notice that a slight metallic knock appeared on small irregularities, as if something had been unrolled. I drove to the service, climbed everything, the master rolled, they say - leave the car, everything is in order. But I can hear the knocking. I put my son next to him, he also hears (damn, well, these are not auditory glitches). The masters in another service checked it again, they did not find anything. The whole suspension, they say, is almost as good as new. I’ll wait, maybe the knock will come out where it will come out (although I don’t like it when something knocks). The knock is heard only on small irregularities. Maybe someone came across? It is clear that there are a lot of things that can knock, but what besides the suspension?

I won't write much about comfort (not counting the knocks described above), so as not to tire anyone, a lot has been written before me - he swallows holes, does not go, but floats. The new racks hold the road clearly better. I drove to Chelyabinsk on the highway, clocked up to 140 (nothing else). I thought I would feel the windage, as I read in many reviews here, but I did not feel it, and okay. I rarely drive at such a speed, unless I need to accelerate when overtaking. It is not a part of racing, but for a comfortable ride.

The seats are comfortable, the back does not get tired at all. The only pity is that leather. Until the skin is thrown, in the cold, even in a heated car, the skin is like frozen metal, and the heating works only if you sit down yourself. It's bad that the heating has only two positions - on or off. There are as many as 5 of them in focus - very convenient!

The trunk is just huge, I'll go fishing and see how much junk goes in there. It's a shame that in such a car there is no handle on the inner lining of the trunk to close it when it's dirty - you don't want to get your hands dirty and pull on the lock - there is a slippery plastic pad.

Noise isolation is not so hot, but still better than that of the focus. I will change the acoustics and make noise at the same time.

The salon is spacious. What pleases in a seven-year-old car - there are no crickets! Only the leather of the seats creaks. Finishing materials suit me perfectly.

Controllability is normal. What can you expect? On rubber 215/65 R16 there can be no other way. Valkaya, but all this is for the sake of a comfortable ride, I suppose. I agree, even so, but the brain does not shake, like Focus or Honda Accord.

Fuel consumption. This is the most painful question for a 3-liter engine. In winter in the city with warm-ups and traffic jams 19.6. Now it's warm, almost no warmth - 16.2. On the highway on cruise control - 9.6 (105 km / h), if you press the pedal yourself - 8.8-9.2, depending on the terrain. The fuel gauge is strangely tuned, I refuel it under the neck and drive before the lamp does not light up, when refueling, only 60 liters are included, with a tank volume of 70 liters. It turns out that there is another 10 liters on the burning lamp. splashing, where is so much?

Reliability: tfu-tfu, never let down. And all the Toyota that I had did not fail. The worst thing that happened was that the low beam lamp burned out. By the way, about the headlights - the light is good, but the headlights themselves seem to have darkened ... it’s not clear only whether they were smoky from the inside or scribbled outside, and I noticed this in all 30 bodies. In 40, the headlights are clear as crystal, but these ...

In general, I like the car, I do not regret that I took it. Minor flaws do not count, I will correct something over time, I will put up with something. And I will ride it for at least a couple of years. These are something else made by engineers, but new ones by marketers. The acquaintances who changed the 30-ku to the 40-ku regretted: the handling is better, but the comfort is not too good.

Engines in operation

The only malfunction claiming to be statistics is the failure of the accessory drive belt tensioner. If it starts to rumble, change it.

The timing belt changes after 150,000 km. In this case, the obligatory replacement of the belt rollers is not provided, however, on such a run, it is better to update them prophylactically. If the spark plugs are working, but the engine is unstable, the first step is to flush the injectors and the throttle valve.

When there is nothing to break
