The most problems during operation are associated with setting up the carburetor, so here is an excerpt from the instructions:

Carburetor adjustment

Adjust the carburetor to low speeds on a warm engine in the following order:

1.Tighten the screw completely idle move located on the side of the carburetor, and then unscrew it 2.5 turns

2. Close the carburetor throttle valve all the way and turn the screw that limits the closing throttle valve, set it to the smallest opening at which the engine is able to operate stably at idle speed.

3. By screwing in and then unscrewing the idle speed screw, find its position at which the engine speed will be the highest, while the throttle valve should remain motionless

4. Rotate the screw that limits the closing of the throttle valve, again set it to the minimum opening position, at which the engine runs stably

5. If after this, when rotating the idle screw, the engine speed does not increase, then the carburetor is adjusted to low speeds, but if the engine speed increases, the carburetor adjustment should be continued.

Installation of the control lever and speed controller. Fig 3.

Each time the control lever is moved, the tension of the control cable must be adjusted again, otherwise the number of revolutions at which the speed control was set may change.

The correct tension of the cable is checked as follows: the control lever is placed in the uppermost position, corresponding to the maximum spring tension, and therefore the maximum opening of the carburetor throttle valve and maximum number engine speed. In this case, the intermediate lever must be turned all the way and rest against the edge of the gearbox housing. If this is not the case, then it is necessary to change the tension of the cable by moving it in the connecting clamp and achieve the above position of the levers

The nut that clamps the spring washer on the control lever axis may become loose due to shock and the control lever will not be held in the desired position. It is necessary to tighten this nut so that the control lever moves only when pressing on it with your hand

The cable fastening in the connecting clamp and the connection of the cable with the intermediate lever may also become loose. The length of the cable will change and when the control lever is pressed to the uppermost position, the intermediate lever will not be adjacent to the gearbox housing, as a result of which the engine will not develop rated speed. In this case, it is necessary to adjust the length of the cable as indicated above

Ignition for walk-behind tractor

The walk-behind tractor engine ignition system ensures timely ignition of the fuel-air mixture in the cylinder. At maximum compression, a spark is formed at the spark plug, which ignites the mixture.

For a walk-behind tractor engine, the device that produces the spark is a magneto. A magnet of constant polarity rotates in a coil, creating an emf for the spark pulse. Serve as energy storage high voltage coil or capacitive capacitor.

IN contact systems a pulse is formed when the contacts of the distributor break, which ensures spark formation at the spark plug at the moment of compression of the mixture.

Disadvantage similar system is mechanical wear constantly moving parts and contacts, which affects the stability and quality of the motor. The problem can be solved by timely adjustment and tuning of the ignition.

In non-contact devices, pulses are created electronic switches by a signal from a special sensor that records the piston reaching the top dead center. There is no dependence of the quality of the spark on the state of the contact groups.

How to independently adjust the ignition of a walk-behind tractor engine?

The engine starts with difficulty, does not gain power, the noise from its operation has increased - one of the reasons may be early or late ignition setting.

Sequence of actions when working with the contact system:

  1. Having opened the crankcase, contact group set the maximum clearance by completely turning the engine crankshaft one revolution.
  2. We set the piston to dead center. Its position is regulated by the engine instructions. There is a special mark.
  3. We loosen the stator fastening elements and achieve closure of the contact group.
  4. The adjustment after assembling the parts is completed.

IN contactless system When adjusting, align the crankcase and ignition marks, for this:

  1. We open the crankcase.
  2. At the piston dead center position, make a clearly visible mark on the rotor and crankcase.
  3. When rotating crankshaft, as soon as a spark appears, put a mark on the crankcase
  4. The difference between the marks on the crankcase corresponds to the ignition timing.
  5. We loosen the stator fasteners and set the angle in accordance with the instructions for the engine.
  6. Ignition setup is complete.

The Ural walk-behind tractor appeared on the market in Russian Federation back in the early nineties. During all this time it continued to be produced. Has proven itself over decades of use in harsh conditions of cottages and vegetable gardens, various climatic conditions. It is unpretentious, easy to repair, and has a number of other advantages over its analogues.

There are several modifications - the difference lies precisely in installed motors. Most buyers give preference to models equipped with domestic engines. The reason for this is the ease of purchasing parts for repairs; they are available in many stores and on secondary market. There are certain features of operating the Ural walk-behind tractor. You will need to deal with them in advance, before purchasing. This will save the new owner from unpleasant surprises and possible difficulties.

Motoblock "Ural": history of creation

This walk-behind tractor model became one of the first in its class in the Russian Federation immediately after the collapse of the USSR. Production began back in the nineties. The first batch sold out in a huge circulation - more than 130,000 copies.

As of 2017, the Ural walk-behind tractor has a large number of different competitors. But it continues to remain relevant and in demand. The main reason for its popularity is the simultaneous combination of several important advantages:

  • optimal ratio of power and fuel consumption;
  • outstanding technical characteristics;
  • simplicity of the device - accessibility of repair.

Assembly and subsequent release is carried out in joint stock company"UMPO". It is a defense engine-building enterprise located in the capital of Bashkiria, the city of Ufa. All necessary spare parts are purchased there.

Technical characteristics of the Ural walk-behind tractor

The concept of the walk-behind tractor itself was developed relatively long ago. Despite this, it still remains relevant, the reason for this is its outstanding technical characteristics. Particularly important is the ability to carry out repairs “on the fly”, right on site.

Most of the breakdowns typical of a walk-behind tractor can be repaired using pliers and a screwdriver. More complex repairs it will also not cause much difficulty to the ordinary summer resident.

Mass and dimensional characteristics

Dimensions and weight are among the most important parameters for such technology. Since work with its help is carried out seasonally. Accordingly, it requires periodic storage.

Dimensional characteristics:

  • length - 1.56 m;
  • width - 0.79 m;
  • ground clearance - 0.28 m.

The weight of the walk-behind tractor is 120 kg. It is thanks to these parameters that the walk-behind tractor is very easy to transport and store. It will easily fit in the far corner of the garage or a small utility room in the country. It is possible to use attachments.

Engine of the Ural walk-behind tractor

The Ural walk-behind tractor is equipped with an engine UMZ-5V. It was designed more than 25 years ago, but due to its performance characteristics it is still relevant. The carburetor engine is easy to repair and adjust independently. This engine is a four-stroke, single-cylinder. This is what determines low consumption fuel for this engine.

Main performance characteristics of UMZ-5V:

  • combustion chamber volume - 0.45 l;
  • rated power - 5 hp;
  • cylinder, diameter - 82 mm;
  • shaft rotation speed - 2,350 min-1;
  • The compression ratio during operation is 6.

One more important feature This walk-behind tractor is undemanding to the quality of gasoline than carburetor engine this type compares favorably with its famous foreign analogues. Possible to operate on different fuels octane number. AI-80 and AI-92 can be filled into the tank.

An engine was installed in separate batches of walk-behind tractors ZID-4.5. Its performance characteristics do not differ from the parameters of the UMZ-5V and its modifications.

Transmission

The transmission has only 3 speeds - one for forward movement, the second for reverse movement and neutral. This type of transmission is used with UMZ-5B and UMZ-5V engines. At the same time, the UMZ-5A type engine is equipped with only one speed.

The transmission of torque to the working part of the walk-behind tractor is carried out by a special V-belt drive. In the same time latest models UMZ-5V can be equipped with four gears simultaneously.

The design is equipped with a special transmission, thanks to which the engine power is transmitted through a special differential. In some modifications of the walk-behind tractor, special types of transmission are installed, which ensure operation of more powerful motors. Due to this, the efficiency of the equipment is significantly increased.

In fact, the walk-behind tractor belongs to the domestic automotive industry. Its transmission does not require regular maintenance- like many of its other components.

There are cases where no maintenance was carried out on a particular walk-behind tractor for more than 10 years. At the same time, the equipment continued to successfully perform all the tasks assigned to it.

Fuel consumption and carburetor

Walk-behind tractor engine of this type equipped with a brand carburetor UMZ-5V. It is not demanding on operating conditions. It can be used even in minus temperature. That is why the Ural walk-behind tractor is often used in winter - for transporting snow and solving other problems. At the same time, this carburetor when correct setting saves fuel. This is another reason for its popularity in our country.

If there is increased consumption fuel - it is necessary to adjust the engine speed using the carburetor.

This procedure is performed in the following order:

  • the idle screw is screwed in completely, after which it should be turned out 2.5 turns;
  • the throttle valve is closed all the way, after which it is set using a special screw to a position in which the engine runs stably;
  • using the idle screw, the engine operating mode is selected in which its operation will be stable, but at the same time the damper will remain in one place;
  • The screw that limits the opening of the throttle valve should be set to the least closed position - it is important that the engine operates sufficiently stable.

If, after performing all the above operations, the engine speed does not increase, this means that the carburetor is set to low speed. Due to this, it is possible to significantly reduce fuel consumption. The process is described in as much detail as possible in the manual that comes directly with the walk-behind tractor itself. Finding it on the Internet is not difficult.

Main features of operating a walk-behind tractor, reviews from owners

Despite its relatively light weight, the walk-behind tractor still requires sufficient physical strength to plow the land. But, at the same time, it is excellent for cultivating complex soils and even virgin soils. Since it is precisely due to the distribution of the mass of 120 kg that there is no need to “press” the Ural walk-behind tractor using its own weight into the ground. What happens in the case of more light models type and some foreign analogues.

The walk-behind tractor itself was designed during its existence Soviet Union. Which makes itself felt by constant, regular oil drips from the most unexpected places. In most cases, such troubles are not critical and do not affect the operation of the walk-behind tractor in any way. At the same time, you need to carefully monitor the lubricant level. If necessary, such drips can be easily eliminated by replacing gaskets, as well as high-quality adhesive-sealant.

However, serious breakdowns requiring major repairs or replacement of entire components occur relatively rarely. That is why this technique does not lose its relevance today. Especially in rural conditions, when to purchase necessary details It’s simply impossible without a long trip.

Most often, problems arise with the following parts of the walk-behind tractor design:

  • gear plug;
  • candles;
  • armored wire.

In turn, on its “native” engine, the walk-behind tractor can work without serious damage about 20-30 years. That is why buying a walk-behind tractor remains relevant even used. It is only important to pay attention to some details that may cause problems in the future. The equipment itself is also designed for transportation and is multifunctional.

But for long trips it is not intended. With prolonged load in the “road” mode, there will be an increase in fuel and oil consumption. Also, when driving for a long time, the motor becomes quite noisy, and an unpleasant “iron” rattling often occurs. Therefore, it is advisable to use the Ural walk-behind tractor only for plowing the soil. Since this is its main purpose.

The power plant is distinguished by its power. Many owners make a choice in favor of this walk-behind tractor rather than imported analogues, only because of the engine domestic production. It easily tolerates any harsh conditions use. This is heat, cold, a lot of dust in the air. It is worth noting the air filtration systems. Among negative points When using the Ural walk-behind tractor, the only thing worth highlighting is its high noise level.

This walk-behind tractor is inferior only in its functionality. Using it for transporting goods, as well as other tasks, is quite problematic. That is why it is necessary to deal with snow removal and other things - it is advisable to look in the direction of imported models. It is only important to know about the difficulty of acquiring spare parts for them.

Purchase of new and used Ural walk-behind tractor

On this moment mass production of this walk-behind tractor is completed. But at the same time, you can still find this equipment for sale in new condition. The cost of "Ural" ranges from 10 to 30 thousand rubles. First of all, the price is determined by the condition, as well as the year of manufacture of a particular walk-behind tractor.

When purchasing, you should pay attention to the engine. Since repairing it in case of breakdown will cost the most. In turn, other faults will not be difficult to eliminate.

When choosing a used walk-behind tractor, it is also important to pay attention to the presence of drips. Since almost all walk-behind tractors, without exception, suffer from similar problems.

It is important that the walk-behind tractor does not overheat. It is quite simple to check this - with the engine running, you should significantly increase the speed. If the motor makes strange sounds or runs tight, you should refuse to purchase such a walk-behind tractor.

Analogues

There are quite a lot of different analogues of the Ural walk-behind tractor on the market in the Russian Federation. They have both their advantages and disadvantages compared to the technology under consideration. The most popular and inexpensive similar models are “Cascade”, “MB-1”, “MB-2”. An equally relevant walk-behind tractor is the Oka. Before making a choice in favor of any a certain model, you need to decide on the goals and objectives that will be solved.

Conclusion

The Ural walk-behind tractor has many different advantages and a minimum of disadvantages. Therefore, even decades later, it is in great demand among summer residents and other citizens who own a personal plot. Easy to repair, unpretentious - it will be an excellent help in implementing various works. At the same time, you need to remember about the limitations of its functionality. Its optimal use is for plowing the soil.

Ural UMZ 5V – walk-behind tractor Russian production, has been known on the market since the 1990s. This is one of the first such cars on the post-Soviet market. Today, the equipment is outdated, but is still in steady demand on the supported market. The main advantages of the model are its low cost and simplicity of design. The device is widely used in the CIS countries, and has proven itself to be a powerful and effective remedy for gardening work. In the first years of production, the circulation of the Ural UMZ 5V was 130 thousand copies. The technology has no analogues in its price category, therefore remains relevant. The optimal combination of power, quality and technical characteristics are the striking advantages that have made the walk-behind tractor world famous.

Ural UMZ 5V is intended to perform various types work in record time. Due to high performance walk-behind tractor equipped tow hitch, is capable of transporting 500 kg of cargo and cultivating up to 2 hectares of land.

The machine has a wide track, which can be easily adjusted depending on the conditions in which the owner wants to operate it. Thanks to the correct settings, the walk-behind tractor can be adapted to certain conditions, and thereby ensure faster and easier work with it.

Please note that the design of the Ural UMZ 5V is in many ways inferior to the walk-behind tractors produced by the Minsk Tractor Plant. Therefore, the main activities of the machine are soil cultivation and cargo transportation. The walk-behind tractor cannot be equipped with attachments with which it could be used as a garbage and snow remover, grass mowing, etc. Thus, it makes sense to purchase such equipment for those who will use it in the summer to process crops.

IN last years production, the walk-behind tractor was produced with a foreign power plant, which did not gain popularity. Car enthusiasts choose domestic engine, for which you can find cheap spare parts. The engine is equipped with four gears.

The walk-behind tractor is quite reliable, and its simple design allows it to be serviced independently, in the garage. Moreover, many components and assemblies of the walk-behind tractor are so durable that owners do not change them for decades, and prefer to fill only with oil and gasoline. And yet, the manufacturer recommends timely maintenance, changing spare parts, etc.

Characteristics

Ural UMZ 5V has a body length of 1560 mm. The width is 790 mm, and the height and ground clearance– 1050 and 280 mm respectively. Full mass equipment excluding additional trailer is 120 kg.

Engine

Ural UMZ 5V is equipped with an air-cooled 4-stroke gasoline engine. The single-cylinder engine has a displacement of 0.5 liters and develops 5 horsepower. Its compression ratio is 6, and the cylinder diameter reaches 82 mm.

The power plant must be considered obsolete. But it has a very reliable design, proven over decades. Therefore, many owners prefer not to change this unit to some kind Chinese motor. In addition, the domestic internal combustion engine is well adapted to any quality of fuel, and this should not be a problem.

Fuel consumption

The walk-behind tractor is equipped with a 6 liter fuel tank. This is a very large figure compared to analogues, while average consumption gasoline is only 2 liters per hour. The owners are very pleased with the efficiency of the car. In this regard, the device is in no way inferior to more modern analogues.

Prices in Russia

Serial production of the Ural UMZ 5V walk-behind tractor is currently completed, but there is a lot of supply for sale on the secondary market. People willingly buy even those items that require restoration. After all, as mentioned above, the design of the model is simple and does not require professional skills.

Ural UMZ 5V on a supported market costs at least 10 thousand rubles, and the cost of cars is good condition can reach 30 thousand rubles. Moreover, the price depends not only on the condition, but also model year. Before purchasing, it is recommended to inspect the equipment from all sides, and, if possible, conduct a detailed inspection of the bottom, since there may be corrosion there. The most valuable thing in the Ural UMZ 5V walk-behind tractor is power point. You need to pay close attention to it. The unit is already old, it major renovation it won't be cheap.

The Ural UMZ 5V has practically no analogues, since this walk-behind tractor is, one might say, from a different era. Among the more modern analogues that perform similar functions, we can highlight the walk-behind tractors “Cascade”, NMB-1, as well as “Oka” and MB1.

Owner reviews

  • Alexei, Sakhalin region. A friend gave me a walk-behind tractor. I received the car in good condition, I've been using it for about a year. I use it for cultivating the soil, plowing and planting crops, and transporting goods. So far it works like clockwork, I service it myself in my garage.
  • Pavel, Ryazan. I bought a walk-behind tractor on the secondary market for cheap. At this price, it still has no analogues, but its capabilities are colossal. It doesn’t even bother me that there is no support for attachments; it still justifies its price. Big fuel tank with a capacity of 6 liters, I also note low consumption, and thanks to this, the walk-behind tractor can boast a record power reserve compared to its competitors. The design is simple, I service it myself - it’s just one or two things wrong. It couldn't be simpler. In general, honor and praise to Soviet engineers, there was a time when they did it without any capricious electronics. I’ve been using it for three years now and I’m happy as hell.
  • Igor, Kaliningrad. This is my first walk-behind tractor, very practical and reliable. Quite powerful and able to save fuel. The weight is substantial - about 120 kg according to the passport data. So he doesn’t need ground hooks. The equipment has a decent carrying capacity, soil depth parameters that are decent by modern standards, low fuel consumption and good maneuverability. Among the shortcomings, I note a noisy engine and vibrations, possible leaks from the gearbox and engine compartment, corrosion, difficult gear shifting. Otherwise everything is fine. In any case, for its age, the Ural UMZ5V is holding up well. I'm not planning to sell yet.
  • Nikolay, Irkutsk. Over ten years of use, the Ural UMZ 5V has served me faithfully. Now its body is practically covered with corrosion, especially in the lower part of the body and under the bottom. The wheels are rusty, the engine often shakes. Constant squeaks, vibrations, etc. In general, it shows its age, but still works 100%. Perhaps I’ll finish it off, and then I’ll buy a new one.
  • Semyon, Dnepropetrovsk. The technique deserves praise. They still knew how to do it Soviet years, not like now - they are stuffed with electronics and pants are full of happiness. This Ural has everything the old fashioned way, everything works reliably, since there is essentially nothing to break.
  • Vasily, St. Petersburg. I liked the car, I've owned it for four years. I chose a copy in good condition, with an engine overhaul. I believe that the walk-behind tractor still has potential even by modern standards. The car consumes little fuel even under load. In addition, I would like to note good acceleration dynamics, simple design and cheap spare parts. For a Russian person these are irreplaceable advantages, so I go and don’t complain. It’s a pity that you can’t install attachments, but it is possible to install a trailer. The weight of the transported cargo can reach an acceptable 500 kg, and even with a margin. The pendant is durable and will withstand any belongings. There is support for the ancient 92 gasoline. Decent smoothness, maneuverable steering wheel and clear gear shifting - you just need to lubricate it more often, and then everything will be fine.
