And what, if not the “seven”, should be taken as the starting point for the XJ? Porsche Panamera unattainable, which means the XJ should take away the title of “driver’s” sedan at least from BMW.

The flagship Jaguar XJ Supersport reveals itself from the outside only with nameplates on the front fenders and exclusive 20-inch wheels. It has a leather ceiling inside. Technically, it differs from regular XJs in having larger brake pads and the presence of an active differential.

But before testing all the capabilities of the monster engine, we had to deal with traffic jams. And even at low speed you can enjoy this Jag. No, not because of the increased attention to the car. An interesting nuance has emerged in the Jaguar XJ Supersport. The XJ sedan first appeared to the public in the spring of 2003 as a model for the 2004 model year. The car has the appearance of a typical representative of the Jaguar family. While maintaining impeccable styling, the XJ is the epitome of automotive innovation. For the first time in the history of the brand this model received an all-aluminum monocoque monocoque body (60% stiffer and 40% lighter than its steel counterpart). The self-adjusting air suspension adjusts the ride height depending on the driving speed, providing better handling.

Nine leather interior options will satisfy the requirements of the most demanding customers, and a DVD player and TVs in the headrests of the front seats will not let passengers get bored on the road.

Elegant, sensual lines, the use of the most expensive natural materials, exquisite interior trim and impeccable quality - all this distinguishes Jaguar from a simple car.

The most important event for the XJ was the introduction of a lengthened version of the LWB ( wheelbase 3034 mm) at the beginning of 2004. For ease of landing, the roof height above rear seats increased by 70 mm. In Russia, the XJ family is offered in the following versions: XJ 3.0 Classic with a 3.0 l V6 24V engine (240 hp), XJ 3.5 Executive with a 3.5 l V8 32V engine (262 hp), XJ 4.2 Executive with engine 4.2 l V8 32V (300 hp).

All models are equipped only with a 6-speed adaptive automatic transmission ZF, complete set electronic active and passive safety systems, air suspension with CATS system, leather and wood trim, separate climate control and audio system.

For an additional fee, a Premium audio system (12 speakers + subwoofer), standard for Super V8, built-in GSM phone, leather and wood steering wheel trim, sunroof, 20-inch wheels, navigation + TV, and for LWB (tables, DVD and two displays for rear VIP passengers, 4-zone climate control and much more).

At the 2005 New York Auto Show Jaguar company presented a “charged” version of the XJ sedan, moreover, built on the basis of its extended version. The car was named Jaguar XJ Super V8 Portfolio. Under the hood of the XJ Super V8 Portfolio is a 400-horsepower version of the new 4.2-liter V8 engine with a mechanical supercharger, which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The car can accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in five seconds, and its maximum speed limited to 250 kilometers per hour.

In addition to the engine, the special version of the Jaguar XJ is distinguished by an exclusive body color, the presence of stylish 20-inch rims, fine-mesh radiator grille and aluminum “gills” on the front fenders. The car's interior now features original interior trim, an advanced DVD system and some other details that distinguish the Super V8 Portfolio from the basic versions.

In 2006, Jaguar continued the process of improving the entire range of XJ sedans. To reduce the level of noise penetrating into the car interior, sound-absorbing laminated side windows are used, and the latest tire pressure monitoring system detects its drop in all five wheels, including the spare. A new brake system with larger diameter discs and stiffer calipers improves the already excellent braking performance of the XJ.

The updated Jaguar XJ has amazing low coefficient aerodynamic drag at the level of 0.29.

All modifications of the car are equipped with an automatic six-speed transmission created in laboratories German concern ZF. The top-spec sedan can accelerate to hundreds in just 4.5 seconds. The XJ's suspension is complemented by adjustable shock absorbers to provide superior handling and passenger comfort.

In the summer of 2015, the British automaker presented once again the updated Jaguar XJ. The flagship of the “cat” brand received minor changes in appearance, new equipment and improved steering.

The appearance of the sedan has changed slightly. The updated 2015 XJ can be distinguished from its predecessor by slightly different designs of all-LED headlights, a larger and more vertical radiator grille. In the top version, the air intakes are highlighted with chrome. The graphics of the characteristic elongated rear lights, and the exhaust pipes took on an oval shape. The car has a classic look with an excellent design that attracts the eye, but does not have provocative features.

As before, the 2015 Jaguar XJ is available in two wheelbase versions - standard (SWB) and extended (LWB). In the first version, the overall length of the sedan is 5,130 mm (wheelbase is 3,032), in the second - 5,255 (wheelbase is 3,157). The width of the car is 1,899 millimeters, height is 1,460.

The main innovation in the cabin is the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with quad-core Intel processor, eight-inch touch display, 60 GB hard drive and smartphone integration. There is navigation, Wi-Fi, a Meridian audio system with 26 speakers with a power of 1,300 watts. The sedan is offered with adaptive cruise control, all-round cameras and a semi-automatic parking system.

Jaguar XJ 2015 received two new modifications: Autobiography and R-Sport.

The R-Sport version sports an aggressive front bumper, side skirts, an air intake with electric curtains, a small spoiler on the trunk lid, a quartet of exhaust pipes, sports seats and a branded steering wheel, piano black center console trim and 20-inch Mataivia wheels.

The luxurious Autobiography package is only available on the long-wheelbase XJ LWB. She is distinguished leather interior with contrast stitching, illuminated stainless steel sills, natural oak trim, as well as separate rear seats with massage and ventilation functions, 10.2-inch displays in the backs of the front seats.

The range of power units consists of powerful engines. All of them come with direct injection and variable valve timing.

After modernization, the output of the 3.0-liter diesel engine increased from the previous 275 to 300 hp, and the peak torque reached 700 Nm compared to 600 previously. The engineers managed to achieve this by improving the turbocharging and injection system. This motor accelerates the car to 100 km/h in 6.2 s (was 6.4 sec) and has low emissions of harmful substances of 149 g/km, meeting Euro 6 standards.

Gasoline engines are a two-liter “four” (240 hp, 340 N m), a three-liter “six” (340 hp, 450 N m) and a five-liter “eight” in three versions (470 hp, 575 Nm, 510 hp, 625 Nm or 550 hp, 680 Nm).

The gearbox for all versions is the same - an eight-speed automatic ZF: 8HP70 or the more compact 8HP45. Drive - rear and all-wheel drive.

In addition, hydraulic power steering has given way to electric EPAS, which has a beneficial effect on handling and makes it possible to reduce average consumption fuel in the combined cycle by 3%.

The car is produced at the JLR plant in Castle Bromwich, just outside Birmingham. The Jaguar F-type and Jaguar XF are also produced there.
