"Never say never" is the well-known proverb. So it turned out that I changed my word twice. About 12 years ago, after parting with a black Nissan, I promised myself that I would never mess with black again: it’s beautiful when it’s clean, but dreary courtship! The second "never" referred to the Toyota brand. I thought and still think that this brand in our market is the most dishonest. Many toyotophiles will now start pointing fingers and throwing stones, but this will not change my opinion. Toyota loves our wallet and doesn’t really love the client: the price is clearly too high, then after 10 thousand, it’s generally too much for modern car! All this is IMHO. In the pros, of course, the rumor about the unbreakability and phenomenal reliability. In the minus, we will add to this brand the increased interest of hijackers and, as a result, increased insurance rates. In the rest, it is a promoted brand, which is a kind of well-designed consumer goods in the automotive industry. I can single out two good products - Prado and LK200. But these cars are a thing in itself. To some, they seem to be something prestigious, although in reality they are well-packed crooks with incomprehensible goals for their possession for a city dweller.

When it's time to change the car, and I owned KIA Sorento 2010, then friends advised to take the Prado with a diesel engine. After him, I went to the salon. Agreed for a discount, the wheels as a gift, I came home, "delighted" his wife and walked "through the bottom of the barrel" by typing the required amount. In the morning, doubts began to gnaw at me - do I need an SUV? He came with a bag of money to the salon, once again swept and ... went home with a bag of money! Not my car! NOT-MO-ME!!! Then I came to evaluate "Venza", but I didn't even get to the test. Enough of the study of the "inside". Bad plastic everywhere! And the look of the luggage compartment generally turned away, it seemed, from Toyota forever. But then I read a note about Highlander and in mid-February, for the sake of curiosity, I came to the salon.

The first acquaintance took place and it left a good impression. Acquaintance with the list of "sweets" left no doubts - the Highlander is pretty packed! At that time, I was considering buying Taurega, but the prices for cars with the options I wanted went off scale for the figure of 2.7 million, even on a "cheap" gasoline engine. And diesel generally carried away to the stars! Having estimated all the pros and cons, I decided that 500-700 thousand of the saved family budget would be good compensation for the moral "suffering" from owning a highlander. Then there were test drives. I went to 2.7 and 3.5. Both as a driver and a passenger in the back seat (but what about: there is a place for your beloved daughter!) And on asphalt and on snow, and on slush, himself and with his family. Feelings will not describe now. I will write simply: we decided that this is a worthy device for moving the family in space. I came to order - white ones are so popular that you have to wait until October, and for July only black and some other. Well, okay! Once he deceived himself, the second time it was easier to deceive himself! Black is so black. Even without the deluxe package. By the way, but meeting his brothers on the road, he noted for himself that the highlander looks more solid in black! Thus, the soul was calmed down. In mid-July, I got a call that the car would come any day. And here is the long-awaited meeting! Of special stages I ordered mats (if it is possible to buy deeper ones, then don’t take relatives: they are too small!), protection, wind deflectors (they haven’t arrived yet!) And Hakku-7 on disks. Additionally, already outside the cabin, set the signalization with auto start, hood lock and beacon.

Operation has begun. What to say. The device is decent. There are still a few of them on the streets, so they have not blurred their eyes yet. Profile, full face, rear view are quite modern. The car is large and therefore does not look like a crossover, because it did not come out tall: the ratio of length and height visually makes the car a high station wagon. In the cabin on top of the dash is solid plastic. And not only soft-look, but also to the touch. But it's worth lowering your eyes below, even on the shelf where the automatic transmission handle, you will see, this is Toyota! The wretchedness of the plastic is outrageous! I must say that I am an adherent of cleanliness and order in the cabin. I use chemistry for this. Turtle wax who has always helped me with this! And then rubbed, like everything shines and smells of freshness. And three or four days later, the panels again look dusty. Previously, one interior cleaning was enough for me for a month and a half. Some straight self-staining plastic!

The cabin is spacious. The doors close with a pleasant, non-slamming sound. Dashboard pleasing to the eye. Doesn't irritate. The display between the tachometer and speedometer shows a lot of interesting things, but I set it to the average consumption position and practically do not set it to other positions. Unless when I give a test for friends, I show a display showing the operation of the drive system. Beautiful, informative, but in everyday life is not interesting. While testing the car, it seemed that the brakes were somehow sluggish. Now I'm used to it. During the test on the site, I tried on rolled snow (my first test, back in February) to put the car into a light skid a little more than necessary by adding gas on the turn. But the electronics "intelligently" prevented this attempt. For family car good quality! Safety comes first!!!

Noise isolation in the car is good. Exactly. Not great, but good. The main noise comes from tires. You can, of course, make Shumko arches, but did not bother. Climate control copes with his work on 4+! Why not 5? Because in my Sorica, the main conditioning position was feet-on-the-windows, and I felt great. In this position, the mountaineer cools his legs .... and that's it! For comfort, you need a position "in the legs-in the mug." It's not hot, but it's blowing! What a draft! When a couple of times turned on the cold on the back row, the noise of air flows from the rear deflectors is very clearly audible. But the passengers did not complain. It seems normal and good for passengers there. Well, okay. There is plenty of room for passengers. Legroom is more than enough. And even more so for a daughter of 10 years old. I haven’t used the third row of seats yet, and I don’t think that this option will be in demand for me. About the driver's seat, I can say that it is spacious because it was created for wide American asses. You get used to it, but the chair lacks lateral support.

Evaluated the ventilation system. Okay, but it ventilates the back and, sorry, the crotch. Not much hits the fifth point. And it's still nice. Especially in hot weather. Music. Cd for three. In Sorik SD worked juicier. The radio is working fine. Playing from a flash drive and via bluetooth with iPhon leaves a good and excellent impression. However, I'm not a music lover. Sounds above average to me already well. Phone operation speakerphone very convenient. And you can hear it well, and you don’t need to break away from the steering wheel to answer or end the conversation. That's just the list of calls is displayed on the screen and in certain circumstances may reveal unwanted information to prying eyes. And to reset it, you need to "reset" it in the menu and then connect again. Although it's not long. Another function of the display is navigation. Driving in the map mode in your hometown, you can also learn the names of streets previously unknown to me. It seems to show everything in detail. But as a navigator over long distances, I would beware of using it.

It happened to me almost immediately after the purchase to go on the route Ulyanovsk-Taganrog. The road has long been familiar to me, but, just in case, I took the good old Navitelovsky navigator. And not in vain! Having entered the route into the Toyota and Navitel navigators, I drove off. The first "puncture" of the Toyota Navigator was on the bypass road in the Syzran region. He just got lost! The mark of the car was "driving" in an open field and the young lady's voice recommended returning to the road. Then the navigator seemed to come to his senses and the young lady asked: "Re-lay?" She repaved it herself and .... began to demand to return to the road, although she already showed that we were driving along the road. In the Saratov region, she came to her senses. But not for long. In short, she was constantly lost and constantly demanded to turn around, then turn. The second time she "woke up" on the M4 highway. But by that time I had already given her the nickname "Psaki" and she did not inspire confidence in me. It is all the more surprising that when entering Rostov, the young lady informed me about traffic jams on the way, created an alternative route, but since I no longer trusted her, I drove on the navigator and ... stayed in traffic jams exactly as long as my Psaki prophesied . The same thing happened on the way back! Conclusion: the system for driving on the highway is completely unacceptable!

If we are talking about trips, I will say this: my expectations were justified. Traveling by car is very pleasant! Highly! Overtaking is given without tension. Holds the road at 5! I didn't notice any wobble or wobble. Liked the cruise control. He was also present on Sorik, but he worked normally only when traveling on a flat road. The climb began a little and he nervously pushed in the back, switching to the lower gear through the stage. The mountaineer behaves more decently. Gear shifting is very smooth. There seems to be a difference in engine power. Very, (VERY!!!) surprised fuel consumption! When purchasing a car, I was ready for consumption in the city within 14-16 liters depending on the season and 10-11 liters on the highway! Imagine my surprise when, on the outskirts of Rostov, the display showed a consumption of 8.9 liters per hundred! Upon arrival in Taganrog after traffic jams in Rostov-9.1! At the same time, I moved at speeds of 100-120 km / h. On the way back, the flow rate was 9.2. At the same time, for checks in one direction, the expense was 9.5 and in the other - 9.3. For such a mass and power of the engine, the result is more than satisfactory! So far in the city average consumption did not grow more than 14 liters, but the main indicator of consumption is still within 12 per hundred.

What NOT to like. MOT in 10 thousand. Plus it's not cheap. Plastic. From the top - self-staining, from the bottom - ugly in appearance and to the touch. The plastic in the trunk is very scratched. There are practically no niches for small things in the trunk. Hood!!! For 2.1 cartoons, they could have put shock absorbers! No configuration without a third row of seats. And this adds to the price probably 60-80 thousand. Here is such a confession of a deceiver. The main thing is that Toyota does not deceive. At least in terms of reliability.
