Which is better Niva or Duster? Different classmates: what is more profitable to buy, Renault Duster or Chevrolet Niva? The years take their toll

Niva Chevrolet – representative domestic auto industry with improved characteristics.

Renault Duster– a car from a company from France with a new body and improved characteristics.

The exterior of both cars looks good, although the Frenchman looks more impressive. Both cars also have roof rails. The radiator grille is more powerful French car, both have company emblems in the center of the front end. But the Chevrolet Niva, according to some characteristics, is still better than Renault Duster. Our car has all-wheel drive, which says a lot, but the Frenchman only uses it in special situations.

Interior of Chevrolet Niva and Renault Duster

Everything is fine inside the Frenchman. The interior is spacious, comfortable seats, multimedia system, air conditioning system. Some people find plain upholstery annoying, but... this moment not for everyone.

A domestic car also has an air conditioning system, but in our area it is still better stove, unlike the Frenchman, she simply fries. In addition to the fact that the interior looks simple, all control and playback devices are located in accepted and usual places. But, as always, the assembly is unfinished in some places. The keys are uncomfortable, the instrument panel is not bad to read, but it is extremely reserved and there is not enough information in it. There is not enough space on the back seat. The disadvantages include - there is no PB and ABS.

Chevrolet Niva and Renault Duster engine

As many Chevrolet Niva motorists know, the engine of the previous generation caused many complaints from car enthusiasts. In addition, it had little power and, on top of that, consumed a lot of fuel. And therefore, the automaker tried to correct this issue and installed a completely new gasoline engine on the car. naturally aspirated engine EU8.

This unit is 1.8 l. with distributive fuel injection and four cylinders. The power is 135 “mares”, the acceleration time to one hundred is 14 seconds. In the “base” the motor works together with the 5th century. “mechanics”, consumption from 8.0 to 13.7 l. In the future, a diesel unit may be added to the engine line.

The French car has three types of engines at its disposal - 1.5 liters. 1.6 l. and 2.0 l; 109, 114 and 143 l. strength. Works on both gasoline and diesel. The maximum speed is 180 km/h. Consumption ranges from 5.3 to 7.7 liters. The gearbox is both manual and automatic. Acceleration time from 10.4 to 13.2 seconds. Gasoline unit in 1.6 l. works with six speed manual transmission, the 2-liter works with either a six-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.

Trunk of Chevrolet Niva and Renault Duster

Volume luggage compartment V Russian car is 320 l, with folded back row– 650 l. Luggage compartment The French car holds 408 liters, with the rear sofa folded - 1570 liters.

The cars have good equipment, both have pros and cons. Concerning price category, then the domestic Chevrolet Niva car, even in the top version, is cheaper. The exterior and interior of both look good, the choice, as usual, is up to you.

What to buy a Chevrolet Niva or Renault Duster in 2018?

Choosing a budget all-wheel drive is always difficult, because such a car must have a set of contradictory and mutually exclusive qualities: be comfortable but passable, high-torque but economical, roomy but compact, reliable but not too primitive, affordable but with minimum set"vital" options...

Today we decided to pit two mastodons of the class against each other, each of which has managed to win consumer recognition. But both have plenty of “haters”, and despite all the similarity in functionality, they are noticeably different in concept and execution. Renault Duster or Chevrolet Niva? Let's try to find one answer using a dozen questions.

What to buy a Chevrolet Niva or Renault Duster in 2018? results

Renault Duster Chevrolet Niva
Despite common platform with the passenger Logan, Renault Duster will not save even in the face of serious off-road conditions. Despite the connection of the second axle via an electromagnetic coupling, in most cases the Duster’s cross-country ability is enough, as they say, for the eyes. In addition, the “Frenchman” can offer a choice of “automatic”, and the list of options is much wider than that of its competitor from Chevrolet. A also Duster more modern, more economical and requires less “maintenance”, which usually comes down to only routine maintenance. However, this car also has minor ergonomic flaws, which, however, many Russian motorists are ready to forgive. "Shniva" is a car that, before the release of Renault Duster, simply had no competitors in the market. Russian market according to a set of consumer qualities. This is a real hard worker who is not afraid of anything bad roads, nor utilitarian tasks. But - not for free: the owner of this car with permanent all-wheel drive is forced to put up with not the most powerful engine, lack of choice of engines and very modest equipment. In addition, this is not so much a Chevrolet as a Niva with all its gears in a developed transmission.
1. Do you often get stuck in traffic jams?
Duster is offered with various boxes transmissions: five- and six-speed manual transmissions, as well as a four-speed automatic (available with a two-liter gasoline engine). Maybe not the most modern, but still automatic transmission allows the Duster owner to avoid tiresome gear changes in traffic jams. It is no secret that such a gearbox in Russia is liked not only by women, but also by residents of large cities who are forced to stand in traffic jams for a long time. Chevrolet Niva leaves no choice to the driver - only manual is available here five-speed gearbox gears, which traces its lineage back to the very first Lada. The “shnivy” clutch has a pronounced engagement point, which is convenient off-road, but somewhat tires the driver in the urban cycle - especially if he previously drove not a Soviet “classic”, but a modern foreign-made car.
2. What is your annual mileage?
Time-tested power units Renault Duster is not considered super-economical, but almost all gasoline modifications(except for the two-liter one) even in the city they fit within 10 l/100 km, and on the highway the Duster needs a little more than six liters of gasoline per hundred. Those who like to drive a lot and at the same time save money will probably prefer diesel, which, according to the manufacturer, even in the urban cycle consumes only 5.9 liters of fuel per hundred - that is, half as much as gasoline Chevrolet engine Niva. It is important that under normal conditions, even an all-wheel drive Duster drives only with front drive wheels - this also has a positive effect on fuel efficiency. The 1.7-liter petrol engine "Shnivy" cannot boast of much fuel efficiency– rather, on the contrary, it has a good appetite for gasoline, largely due to its inability to switch off all-wheel drive. If outside the city, according to the manufacturer, Niva consumes 8.4 liters, then in the urban cycle it is already 13.2 liters. “Mixed” ten liters per hundred mileage does not look like an excessive overpayment for cross-country ability only until the Duster comes onto the scene, which, even with a two-liter 143-horsepower engine and automatic transmission, “eats” 11.3 liters of gasoline in the city. That is why, with large annual mileages owner of Niva can leave a fortune at the gas station - especially considering current fuel prices and in comparison with the Duster.
3. What is your attitude towards “comfort options”?
On-board computer, cruise control, heating windshield, remote start engine, multimedia system with navigation, air conditioning, heated seats, leather upholstery, parking sensors, alloy wheels - with this set of options, the Duster looks like a much more “packed” crossover than the ascetic “Shnivo”. Let's not forget that in Duster, everything listed is not only present nominally, but also works quite well. In the “base” (version L) Chevrolet Niva is equipped very sparsely: central locking, front electric windows, electric drive and heated mirrors, audio preparation and... everything! The LC package will add air conditioning, and the GL version, in addition to the above, sports an alarm system, front airbags, ABS, fog lights and alloy wheels. The “top” Chevrolet Niva even has a heated windshield and front seats, as well as an audio system. But this model does not offer cruise control, climate control, navigation, or leather seat trim.
4. Have you tried to repair your car yourself?
Renault Duster is a budget car, but still a “foreign car”, albeit Russian production. A simple and proven platform and the absence of technical bells and whistles provide this car with good reliability. Yes, it’s really easy to drive a Duster from service to service without looking anywhere. In addition scheduled maintenance here is less extensive than on Niva, and factory warranty valid for 3 years or 100,000 kilometers. It is easier to service a Chevrolet Niva yourself, since anyone who has repaired a Zhiguli at least once in their life can easily handle it. However, at first you will have to do this more often than Renault - the Niva has a so-called “break-in” maintenance for the first 2000-2500 km, and it also needs periodic adjustment of the clearances in the wheel bearings and changing the oils in the transmission units. Yes and warranty obligations The manufacturer's service life on the Niva is shorter than on the Duster - only 2 years or 35,000 km. In addition, many “Shnivy” regularly “require the use of hands” - albeit in small things, but this machine will force you to pick up not only the ignition key, but also the wrench.
5. What is more important for a rogue - all-wheel drive or geometric cross-country ability?
Renault Duster is available in both a single-wheel drive version and a 4x4 version. However, unlike the Niva, this car does not have permanent all-wheel drive, and the rear axle is connected via a multi-disc electromagnetic coupling. In case of prolonged slipping, in order to avoid failure, the overheated clutch may simply disengage, and the Duster will become single-wheel drive for some time. But in terms of ground clearance, the all-wheel drive Duster is not much inferior to the Niva - 210 mm versus 220 “nominal” mm Chevrolet, and in terms of approach angles front and rear, both cars are very close. That is, in terms of the parameters of the “pure geometry” of the body in the lower part, the Frenchman is not much inferior to the Chevrolet, which is a credit to this crossover. Niva has a classic all-wheel drive transmission, inherited from the VAZ-2121. All four wheels are always driven, and the transfer case has a lower range of gears, allowing you to increase gear ratio in the transmission twice! If necessary, the driver can block center differential, which also has a positive effect on the off-road potential of the car. And it is very high precisely because of the “pure mechanics” of all-wheel drive, devoid of any executive electronics. Yes and by geometric cross-country ability the more compact shniva, albeit slightly, is still superior to the Duster, since it has larger approach angles and is shorter wheelbase(2,450 mm vs. 2,673 mm).
6. Are you interested in tuning as a phenomenon in relation to your own car?
Renault Duster is well equipped from the factory and is also prepared for our realities. However, "alien" optional equipment This car is not very suitable, and the possibilities for modifying the transmission, unlike the Niva, are minimal. That is why it is better not to “tuner” the Duster, but simply to operate it in the form in which the manufacturer intended it. Moreover, the latter himself offers as “extras” useful accessories, including window deflectors, trunk trays, luggage arches, bike rack, tow bar, protective grille radiator, etc. Russian motorists are happy to refine domestic cars, and Chevrolet Niva is no exception. If desired, the car can not only be hung with various “kanguryatniks”, but also installed an electric winch, snorkel, expeditionary trunk and inter-wheel differential locking. Thus, the shniva, which is susceptible to tuning, allows you to noticeably change appearance and improve the car’s already impressive cross-country ability.
7. We place accents. What happens more often in your life - transporting gardening tools to the dacha or a muddy dirt road on the way to fishing?
The rear seat of the Renault Duster is no frills, but it provides an acceptable level of comfort for all three passengers. You can lower the split backrest to transport long items without lifting the rear seat cushion. The trunk, with its 408 liters of useful volume, is noticeably more spacious than the Shniv one, and the fifth door rises up, rather than opening to the side. On the back Chevrolet seat Niva is tighter than in Duster, and the 320-liter trunk is more comparable in its capabilities to a B-class hatchback than to family station wagon. If necessary, the rear seat folds in parts, and the volume of the luggage compartment increases to 650 liters, but in the Duster, with a similar transformation, cargo compartment with a volume of as much as 1,570 liters!
8. Have you ever used a spare tire?
On all-wheel drive Duster spare wheel located in the trunk underground - that is, when changing a wheel you will have to unload your things first. On the 4x2 version, the spare tire is located under the floor of the luggage compartment on the outside - that is, when replacing it off-road, you will literally have to lose face (and hands) in the dirt. The Niva's spare wheel is located on the fifth door that opens to the side, so when replacing it, unload the trunk in order to get to the spare wheel. Chevrolet owner no need. This seems relevant given Russian realities in the form of an abundance of sharp debris on the roads. In addition, tires can be damaged on off-road terrain, on which the Niva looks quite appropriate.
9. How tall are you?
Front adjustment range Renault seats The Duster is simply huge - especially when compared with the Niva. There is even a lift for the driver's seat, which will provide a comfortable driving position for almost any driver. True, the climate control knobs are located a little low, and the seat heating button is very difficult to find - but at least the signal is no longer located at the end of the left steering column switch. A tall and tall driver is unlikely to be able to get as comfortable as possible behind the wheel of a Niva, since due to the short slides of the front seats, the range of their longitudinal movement is very limited. Therefore, Chevrolet is perfect for those owners whose height does not exceed 175-180 cm.
10. Do you often drive long distances on two-lane country roads?
Regardless of type and power Renault engine feels confident outside the city, accelerating to 100 km/h from a standstill in 10-13 seconds, depending on the engine. Starting from 80 km/h, you can drive in economical sixth gear (on the version with a six-speed manual, of course). Duster is controlled almost as easily and clearly as any other modern car, and not an SUV, but a passenger car. And even after Niva Renault seems very quiet car, since its transmission doesn't make any whine. Considering maximum power and the nature of the archaic engine, fast country driving is difficult for the Niva. It is especially difficult to overtake heavy trucks with this car, from which the Niva’s dynamics with its 19 seconds to hundreds are very close. In addition, in terms of handling, this Chevrolet, despite the emblem, is much closer to the Zhiguli and the first Niva than to its overseas “namesakes”. That is why the Shnivy is more of a “melee weapon” than a vehicle for long-distance travel.

Many people, when choosing a budget four wheel drive vehicle, often think about what to buy: Renault-Duster or Niva-Chevrolet? These cars are relatively inexpensive and have similar sizes, features and prices. It is for this reason that the choice is not at all easy. Today we’ll look at both cars in more detail and decide for sure which is better: Niva-Chevrolet or Renault-Duster?

It should be noted that there are plenty of fans of both models. These are the cars that are extremely common on the roads. They can be serviced in almost every car service center, and you can always buy all the necessary used spare parts very cheaply. New components are available in almost every store car parts.

Exterior

To find out which of these two cars is better, you need to compare them in all respects and aspects. Let's start comparing the Niva-Chevrolet and Renault-Duster with their appearance. Hand on heart, let's say that Renault Duster has a very, very controversial design. “Niva-Chevrolet” does not have much in this regard, but it wins. It must be said that both cars are not particularly impressive with their external data. But it is worth considering that the Niva-Chevrolet was developed and created a long time ago, but the Renault-Duster is more modern car. Then it’s not clear how they managed to create it with such a faded appearance?

These are typical representatives of budget cars; you shouldn’t expect anything special from this class. Optics, body lines, bumpers, etc. - it all looks somewhat poor, dull and old-fashioned. But these cars are not chosen for their external beauty, so let’s move on.

Interior

If you compare Niva-Chevrolet and Renault-Duster in terms of interior decoration, then the situation here is just as sad as with the appearance. The finishing materials on both models are cheap. Squeaks in the interior can be present from the first revolution of a car wheel that comes off the production line. Sound insulation is also poor, but in this aspect the Duster wins at least a little. You can modify the sound insulation on any car yourself if you have the desire, opportunity and means.

The dashboard in none of these cars can surprise you with anything. Everything is very simple and unpretentious. Not everything is conveniently located and thought out, but this is a matter of habit. The seats are comfortable, the seats themselves are also quite decent, the same can be said about the sofas in the back row.

If we talk about the size of the interior and trunk, then the Duster is a little better in this regard, it is a little more spacious inside, this is precisely the space that is not enough in the Niva-Chevrolet to comfortably accommodate three passengers per car. back seat, but, again, we repeat that everything is known by comparison.

Handling and suspension

"French" holds the road better and on high speeds, both on asphalt pavement and on primer. Both cars have a monocoque body. The Niva-Chevrolet is equipped with an center lock and low gears; the Renault-Duster does not have a low range in the box, and rear drive turns on only when required. If we compare the cross-country ability of the Renault-Duster and the Niva-Chevrolet, then the “Frenchman” loses. But it is worth saying that both cars are SUVs.

The suspension itself is reliable on both cars. It is a little harsh due to the short wheelbase, but this is not critical, you just need to get used to it if you have previously owned a car with a long wheelbase or more expensive class.

Off-road performance

The cross-country ability of Renault-Duster and Niva-Chevrolet does not raise any questions. But objectively, in a Niva-Chevrolet you can go places where no Renault-Duster owner would even think of going. To be fair, let's say that the regular domestic Niva also has better cross-country ability than both options we are considering.

If you test drive a Niva-Chevrolet and a Renault-Duster on asphalt, then the “Frenchman” will win, and if you make a comparison off-road, then the Niva-Chevrolet will undoubtedly emerge victorious in this race.

But there are also some nuances. For example, in case of a side skid in the snow, the Renault Duster will cope better with the situation, thanks to more powerful engine and work modern electronics together with the all-wheel drive clutch. On the other hand, Niva-Chevrolet with fewer electronic systems is preferable for many buyers, because the absence of electronics is a guarantee of reliability. On budget cars this truth is 100% true.

Technical characteristics of Renault Duster

Renault Duster can have either a manual or automatic transmission. Interesting feature: manufacturer of this car recommends starting the Duster from second gear (in mechanical box gear shift). The fact is that the first gear in the box works to increase torque. This is done for confident movement of the car in snowy weather and when there is a large accumulation of dirt on the road. If you drive in urban conditions, then such an increase in torque is not required, so when you start driving, you can skip the first gear and move off from the second.

The buyer is offered a choice of three engines with different displacements (1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 liters). Two gasoline engines and one diesel power plant. The car can have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Technical characteristics of "Niva-Chevrolet"

The car has only a manual transmission, and only one engine (petrol) with a displacement of 1.7 liters. All vehicles are available with all-wheel drive only. "Renault-Duster" or "Niva-Chevrolet" in terms of variety of delivery options? Of course, Duster. At the same time, the Renault Duster version with front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox is not a car for traveling outside the city. It is sometimes cheap city and sometimes budget compact SUV(four-wheel drive).

From here we can conclude that “Duster” is also practical car. On the other hand, we have all seen the Chevrolet Niva in the city, and some owners say that they bought it precisely for these purposes and have never driven it outside the city and do not plan to do so. Each person chooses a car based on their personal preferences.

Workmanship

There are no obvious blunders on any of the models under consideration. Gaps between body parts smooth. The materials in the cabin are better than those of Renault Duster. This is due to the fact that this car has been improved over the years, but the Niva-Chevrolet has not been improved; it has been “stuck” in its performance from the very start of sales to this day. Not to say that Niva-Chevrolet is completely bad in terms of materials. This is not true, but the old age and irrelevance of finishing materials is present and felt, although for some people this is not too critical.

"Niva-Chevrolet" or "Renault-Duster": reviews

In their assessments, all people are divided into two types. Some criticize the Duster and praise the Niva, others praise the Niva-Chevrolet and criticize the Renault-Duster. We will not indulge anyone and will present only facts without any emotional overtones.

There are many reviews from owners about the Niva-Chevrolet or Renault-Duster; both of these cars are already considered popular. In any case, these are the cars that are suitable for most roads in our country.

The metal, according to reviews from the owners, is better than that of the Duster, although it is also not amazing in quality. If you plan to drive one of these cars for a long time, then make an additional anti-corrosion treatment. Reviews suggest that this is a good investment of money for any of these machines.

Some typical serious damage not seen on models. Anything can break, as the owners say, but it may not break. Timely Maintenance and monitoring the condition of components is the right approach to these vehicles and the prevention of unexpected and unpleasant costly breakdowns.

Dynamics

“Niva-Chevrolet” and “Renault-Duster” cannot be compared in terms of dynamics; the “Frenchman” is an order of magnitude higher. It is much more dynamic than its competitor. The Duster accelerates to the first hundred in about 11 seconds. The Chevrolet Niva will accelerate to this speed mark in approximately twice as much time (about 19 seconds).

But in fairness, let's say that this is not at all racing cars. And their overclocking qualities are not decisive for them and are very important factor. These “babies” are designed for off-road and bumpy roads, and in such conditions, acceleration time does not solve anything at all, other qualities are needed there.

Tuning

Today there are many body kits for a car like the Niva-Chevrolet. They slightly modify the body lines and optics, making them more modern. There are also tuning options for Renault Duster. But there is an opinion that under plastic body kit bodies, areas of metal corrosion appear first, so their installation is very controversial.

The most popular type of modification of the cars in question today is an increase in ground clearance. The easiest way to do this is by installing special spacers. This is not entirely beneficial for the car in terms of its stability when cornering high speed. But those who install them on these cars to improve off-road performance are ready to put up with this drawback.

Also, these cars are equipped with wheels for SUVs (larger diameter and increased tire width), various power bumpers, thresholds made of pipes, roof racks, etc. This must only be done with appropriate permission.

It is worth noting that with a properly prepared vehicle, its performance in off-road conditions increases. It is also important to understand that professional tuning in the appropriate workshops it can cost a very large sum, but sometimes such modifications cannot be done without. The operating conditions of the machine are always different.

Prices

Which is better: Niva-Chevrolet or Renault-Duster in terms of economy? Money? "Niva-Chevrolet" can be purchased in the basic, simplest configuration at a price of 400 thousand rubles (at the time of various promotions from official dealers).

The most cheap version Renault Duster costs at least 70 thousand rubles more (also during promotions at dealers), but this is the price for a front-wheel drive car. If we talk about the all-wheel drive version, then it costs even more, the cost starts at another 100 thousand rubles more than the Niva. And if we talk about automatic transmissions gear changes, diesel power units and rich configurations, it will cost even more.

Conclusion

Describing the characteristics of "Renault-Duster" or "Niva-Chevrolet", we can say that the "French" is a budget option, which corresponds to time and demand. And the Niva-Chevrolet is a car that turned out well 14 years ago, but for some unknown reason the manufacturer stopped there. “Niva-Chevrolet” requires updating in the form of at least some kind of restyling, and ideally it would be nice to release a “Niva-Chevrolet” of the second generation, which would be ahead of its competitors in all respects. The current Niva is outdated, but is still good on rough terrain.

The question of choosing Renault-Duster or Niva-Chevrolet remains acute and open. You need to choose a car based on your own preferences and future operating conditions. The purchase and maintenance of both of these machines in monetary terms will be approximately the same.

In favor of Niva-Chevrolet are its off-road qualities and simplicity of the device, plus you can add the most low price in class. For Renault Duster - its comfort and more modern performance, plus wide choose configurations and power plants car. But prices for top-end configurations“Dusters” are somewhat overpriced and no longer quite correspond budget class car data.

At the moment, the most popular crossovers in low price segment are Niva Chevrolet and Renault Duster. Despite the fact that they were created by different concerns, they have a lot in common. In addition, they are in approximately the same price segment. But it’s difficult to say for sure that better than Chevrolet Niva or Renault Duster, because, despite numerous General characteristics, each car has certain advantages and disadvantages that must be taken into account when choosing a car.

The power unit is one of the factors by which these two cars cannot be compared. Niva is completed VAZ engine, which develops a maximum power of 80 hp. at operating rates of 5000/minute. The Duster engine is more powerful, reaching 114 hp. at 4000 rpm. Accordingly, these two cars will have different tax rates, which is also important for further operation.

Transmission.

Both vehicles are considered all-wheel drive. But the operating principle is very different. The Niva has full-fledged all-wheel drive. The car is equipped with a transfer case, which, if necessary, locks the center differential.

The Duster has a stripped-down all-wheel drive system. In fact, this car is front-wheel drive. Connection rear axle occurs due to the inclusion of the center coupling. This makes the car more passable, but still inferior in design quality to the Chevrolet Niva.

Interior

The Niva's interior leaves much to be desired. Hard plastic and outdated ergonomics do not make the most favorable impression. But these are shortcomings that you can get used to, especially since the layout of the sensors is quite simple and intuitive. There are many questions regarding the operation of the heater, the power of which is often insufficient. Therefore, many car owners make a large number of modifications. It is also periodically necessary to draw certain components, because the plastic begins to come off and “crickets” appear when moving. The Niva's salon is small. The luggage compartment volume is 320 liters. If you remove back row seats, then it increases to 650 liters. The car's safety indicators are low, since the Niva is not equipped with passenger airbags in most trim levels, and ABS is not provided.

In this parameter, French cars are in the lead. Comfortable and modern ergonomics, a large and functional solon are perfectly complemented quality system climate control. Some car enthusiasts have complaints about the thin steering wheel and the interior trim material. The trunk is also more functional. Its capacity is 408 liters in working order, and when folded rear seats increase it to 1750 liters.

Steering and chassis systems.

The steering system of two cars has additional system gain. But in Duster it is organized using electrical components, while in Niva it is hydraulics. This allowed the Renault Duster to reduce the load on the engine, due to which it has increased efficiency. This also affected fuel consumption; Renault is more economical.

The Chevrolet Niva has one that is mounted on parallel tags. This allows you to fully use the car not only in the city, but also off-road. Four cross rods provide good stability and help create high ground clearance.

Renault Duster rear suspension independent - only in all-wheel drive version. The front one is made similar to MacPherson strut, which is not very suitable for an SUV. This suspension is more optimized for urban driving style to overcome small snowdrifts and small holes.

Transmission

The Chevrolet transfer case is five-speed, with a two-row gear arrangement. The differential is locked using a lever. This allows you to increase cross-country ability due to uniform distribution of torque.

The Duster gearbox is equipped with six gears, one of which is responsible for transmitting increased torque. This allows you to overcome most types of obstacles. The only difference is that it allows you to move low gear only forward.

Ride quality

In tests in the city, Duster shows much better dynamics. 10.7 seconds to 100 kilometers per hour versus 19 for Chevrolet. Also, the Duster suspension handles road unevenness, such as speed bumps, more gently.

Niva shows off-road top scores. Thanks to the differential lock and shorter wheelbase, it overcomes climbs with a large approach angle. The only drawback may be the need to frequently switch the transfer lever, depending on road conditions.

The price range for Chevrolet Niva or Renault Duster is almost the same, in fact, this complicates the choice between Niva and Duster. You will have to add up all the pros and cons and choose the lesser of two evils.

Duster can hardly be called handsome. But the Chevy Niva is far from attractive in appearance. So there's equality here. Based on the results of the comparison, Duster and Chevy Niva each receive 2 points out of 5.

Interior features

Both cars have harsh interior elements and neither the Chevy nor the Duster have features that would please the eye! But still, the interior of the Duster seems friendlier than the rough shape of the Sheva Niva! Result: Renault Duster gets 2 points, and Chevrolet Niva gets its rightful 1 point out of 5.

Ride comfort

Feeling at ease in the Duster's interior when parked, one got the impression that it should have been comfortable on the move as well. But it turned out that it only seemed so! Renault Duster reacts very strongly even to small bumps on a city road! The Chevy Niva, with its wild interior (and it’s wild in it, since everything is not at hand), reacted more gently on city roads and on uneven roads. The result of the comparison of chassis Chevrolet quality Niva or Renault Duster - Duster gets 3 points, Chevy Niva gets 4 points out of 5.

Trunk size

The luggage compartment of the Duster turned out to be larger than that of the Sheva, but the Niva has less finishing in the luggage compartment, which means that not entirely clean things and objects can be transported in this car. Summary of comparison luggage compartments 2 points out of 5.

Off-road testing

The most important thing for cars of this class is “OFF-ROAD”. You can even see it by eye. that the Chevy has more ground clearance than the Renault Duster and the cross-country ability turned out to be better than that of the Duster. But at the same time, the Niva has such a good bumpiness, and the Duster behaves more gently on potholes. The result of off-road trips is 3 points for both (I was honestly shocked, they performed well off-road).

Transmission

But still, the Renault Duster has one big advantage that, alas, the Chevrolet Niva cannot boast of, namely such a wonderful device as the “automatic transmission”. As a result, according to this assessment, the following picture emerges for the average person in terms of points: Niva receives 0 points, Duster is assigned 2 point, because the automatic transmission installed in it is made from cheap French ones).

Total in points

Renault Duster gets 14 points, and Chevrolet Niva its rightful 12 points. It turns out that the difference in points is quite small, so the question arises - is it worth announcing the winner based on the sum of the points in the Chevrolet Niva or Renault Duster competition?!
