The car is based on a radically modified “trolley” of its predecessor, represented by a transversely located power unit and independent suspensions front and rear – MacPherson struts and multi-link with lateral stabilization system, respectively. The steering wheel is complemented by an electric booster, and braking is controlled by disc brakes all wheels (front with ventilation) and wide range electronic assistants.

In 2015, the manufacturer presented the 3rd generation Hyundai Tussan to the public. Debut of the updated compact SUV took place in the spring of 2015 at the annual Geneva Auto Show. The developers presented the model as “completely updated” and devoid of previous shortcomings. The changes affected the dimensions, interior and technologies used.
About the changes in detail - description of the 3rd generation model
Hyundai Tucson has appeared in a completely new form: technical characteristics of models supplied to Russian market have changed thanks to new trim levels and improved performance (fuel consumption, acceleration, maximum speed).
Engine and modifications
The range of power units provided for the Russian car owner includes the following engines:
- gasoline
- 150 hp, Nu 2.0 MPi D-CVVT (torque 192 Nm), set to 5 different modifications– with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with automatic and manual;
- 177 hp, Gamma 1.6 Turbo-GDi D-CVVT (turbo engine, 265 Nm, 4 modifications - with “robot”, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with “mechanics”);
- diesel
- 185 hp, CRDi 2.0 (400 Nm2 modifications - all-wheel drive, automatic or manual transmission).
Gearboxes – 6 stepped automatic transmissions and manual transmission, 7-speed robotic box. Drive: either front-wheel drive or plug-in all-wheel drive (in normal mode, torque is supplied to the front axle, but is distributed in a 50 to 50 ratio via an electro-hydraulic clutch). 
The SUV in such modifications demonstrates:
- maximum speed – 182-201 km/h;
- acceleration to “hundreds” in 9.1-11.8 seconds;
- fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 6.3-7.9 l/100 km.
The 3rd generation of crossovers is distinguished by a smooth ride, improved handling and no longer resembles the previous “simple” “Korean”.
The platform has undergone changes
Presenting its new creation in 2015, the Korean manufacturer announced a “drastically modified platform” for the crossover. Later it became known that the “trolley” is the same modular platform Kia Sportage, which has undergone changes and is no longer similar to the frame of its predecessor. 
Due to updates in the supporting structure, it was possible to increase inner space and, as the manufacturer specified, “to maintain a balance between the dimensions of the car, the comfortable placement of passengers inside and the volume of the trunk.”
The suspension has become “softer”
As before, the 2015-2018 Hyundai Tucson is equipped with an independent McPherson spring suspension at the front and an independent multi-link at the rear with a lateral stabilization system. However, the manufacturer tried to make the suspension “softer”: the McPherson shock absorber rods increased in thickness, and the rear strut arms became longer. These measures played their role: the owners appreciated the changes for the better, but at the same time noted that a high level of comfort was still far away.
Body and exterior
Among the external transformations are changed dimensions and more aggressive features, giving the SUV a sporty, confident character. Since 2015, the body began to be made from high-strength steel of the latest generation, which deforms upon impact, extinguishing energy so as to cause minimal damage to the driver and passengers.
Dimensions
The third generation Hyundai Tussan has become more spacious: the overall dimensions have increased, the ground clearance. To this day, the Korean crossover is available in the following sizes:
- 4.48 m – length (65 mm more than its predecessor);
- 1.85 m – width (by 30 mm);
- 1.66 m – height (by 5 mm);
- 2.67 m – wheelbase (by 30 mm);
- 182 mm – ground clearance (by 2 mm);
- 1454-1690 kg – curb weight.
New appearance
A careful study of the exteriors of the Hyundai Tussan III and its predecessor reveals the following changes:
- the trapezoidal radiator grille has increased, and the width of its chrome outline has also “grown”, providing the exterior with massive horizontal ribs;
- on front bumper Hyundai Tucson - clear relief (spectacular stamping of ribs);
- modified fog lights and thin strips of LED daytime running lights appeared running lights, head optics has acquired more convex and elongated forms, which create the effect of a sort of “expressive look from under the brows”;
- The angle of the front pillar has decreased, the rising top line has been narrowed towards the rear of the windows - all this has a positive effect on the aerodynamics of the crossover.
- the hood and side surfaces of the body have increased in volume;
- the car was endowed with massive wheel arches and wheels of different designs and diameters - from 16 to R19 on top Hyundai versions Tucson.
- here appeared a massive tailgate and wide, long rear LED lights;
- the pattern of the side windows is completed with an elegant touch - a small spoiler on the tailgate;

The manufacturer offers to purchase the Hyundai Tucson III in one of 11 available body colors. 
Looking at the crossovers produced in 2015-2018, we can safely say that this is a completely different car, which bears little resemblance to its predecessor (the Hyundai ix35). The SUV has completely lost its “Asian features”, acquired a modern and stylish exterior, and is now not inferior in external characteristics to its classmates. But at the same time, it lost its individuality (if not for the emblem, it would be difficult to determine the brand of the car only by appearance).
Increased level of comfort in the cabin
The corporate design style was preserved in the interior of the SUV, but at the same time, engineers and designers managed to modernize the interior and increase the level of comfort due to:
- installation of ergonomic chairs (equipped with electrically adjustable lumbar area);
- comfortable and pleasant to the touch multifunctional steering wheel;
- air ducts for the second row of seats;
- the use of higher quality materials (the steering wheel is covered in leather, the door cards and instrument panels have a softer plastic finish);
- using backlighting with a softer blue glow;
- panoramic roof (in top trim levels).
Controls
The technicians also worked on the internal equipment:
- the on-board computer has a 4.2-inch color LCD display and a digital instrument panel;
- premium Infinity audio system installed;
- the center console has changed, in its upper part there is a navigator screen (in top versions there is an 8-inch multimedia touch screen), under it there is a double row of buttons, and a stylish climate control unit has appeared (with a display and rotating controls);
- the steering wheel has become more comfortable, equipped with an electric power steering, a heating function, “received” many keys, decorated with an aluminum insert, and covered in leather;
- and braking is now handled not only by disc brakes (ventilated at the front), but also by numerous electronic assistants.
How spacious is the 3rd generation “Korean”
There is more space in the cabin (the space was increased by changing the dimensions of the car, and in particular the wheelbase). The updated crossover can comfortably accommodate five people. 
The seats of the first row in the crossover have changed (they received an improved profile, sufficient quantity adjustments), but still have short cushions (a traditional feature Korean cars) and are equipped with “weak” lateral support. The electric drive is only available as an option. 
On the second row, the seats are adjustable (you can only change the backrest angle). Rear seats equipped with air ducts, the armrest remained in the same place. A heating system is available as an option.
Unfortunately, the trunk volume has decreased to 488 liters (you can free up space for transporting large cargo by folding rear seats“to the floor” – up to 1,478 l). A spare tire and a repair kit are hidden in the underground.
Available configurations and prices
Today the manufacturer offers to purchase Hyundai Tucson in 6 modifications: at the beginning of 2018
- with “mechanics” and front-wheel drive, with a 149 hp engine. – RUB 1,370,000;
- the same engine equipped with an automatic transmission and front-wheel drive – RUB 1,430,000;
- or with manual transmission and all-wheel drive – 1,540,000 rubles;
- or with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive – RUB 1,590,000;
- in the middle configuration, a robotic gearbox with all-wheel drive and a 177-horsepower engine is offered for RUB 1,745,000;
- version with a diesel 185-horsepower unit, all-wheel drive and automatic transmission - for 1,870,000 rubles.
These modifications have recently been updated - especially for Russians in 2018, the automaker endowed the equipment with a new set of technical options and presented a model range Korean crossover as the most optimal for use in Russia (Primary, Family, Lifestyle, Dynamic and Prim configurations with the High-Tech VIP package). For example, average equipment turned out to be equipped LED optics(front and rear), alloy wheels with a diameter of 19R. From technology: blind spot monitoring system, rear view camera, parking sensors, 8-inch multimedia and navigation screen, electric brake with auto-hold functions. The interior is trimmed with mixed leather, the rear sofa seats are heated. The trunk door opens remotely, and keyless access is possible into the cabin. The main competitor of the model is still Kia Sportage(only in its updated version), “in the image and likeness” of which the Korean Hyundai Tussan 3 was created.
From year to year, the competition for the South Korean SUV is:

Features of the model that distinguish it from competitors
The name of the Korean crossover has always been associated with high reliability car, economical expenditure of funds for its maintenance and service. In 2015, new characteristics of the model were added to the list of unique features, previously unknown to it:
- the level of comfort in the cabin has increased, the aesthetic properties of the car have been improved;
- improved “driving” characteristics (controllability, dynamism, cross-country ability, fuel consumption);
- manufacturer equipped updated crossover maximum number of security programs.
The manufacturer tried to outshine its competitors and updated the exterior and interior, creating the third generation of the SUV. Nothing else inside the car “screams” that you find yourself behind the wheel of a modest Korean SUV; on the contrary, you feel high ergonomics, freedom of movement and an order of magnitude improved quality of finishing materials (although still not everywhere, for example, in some places they are used instead soft “oak” plastic, but the interior no longer “creaks” and is not intimidating).
The noise level in the cabin has noticeably decreased (although there were no special complaints about this parameter) - engineers have worked to reduce the engine noise level by high speeds. The mid-range and top trim levels are equipped with an 8-inch multimedia screen, an engine start button and other nice features that owners of competing models can only dream of.
A test drive of the 3rd generation model showed that the technical characteristics of the Hyundai Tucson are at high level thanks to the work of a “well-coordinated tandem” of transmission and power unit, demonstrating decent handling, dynamics (especially in city driving conditions), not too high consumption fuel. However, on the highway you can feel some loss of connection between the steering wheel and the car's handling (experts attribute this “feeling” to the power steering settings). In harsh off-road conditions, the SUV demonstrates good maneuverability (“the electronics work clearly,” transferring torque to rear wheels, which instantly adhere to the ground).
Unlike many competitors, the crossover configurations are equipped with almost all modern systems active and passive safety. Planned updates to the crossover in 2015 made it possible to create more safe car, according to this indicator, the manufacturer received five stars from EuroNCAP for its model (based on the results of the test).
As a result of significant changes in the model, the manufacturer managed to expand the audience of potential buyers: attention to the Korean SUV has recently been attracted not only from family Russians with established habits and values, but also from the young population, among whom it is customary to pay attention to the level of comfort and external characteristics car.
Eliminated deficiencies
Judging by the reviews, one of the main problems has disappeared previous model– “hard” suspension. But, unfortunately, there remains another problem - the “automation” does not always work adequately. Gear shifting has become noticeably smoother, but, according to the owners, “there is no desired transparency in traction control.”
A review of the reviews allows us to draw an unambiguous conclusion: besides the one mentioned, there are no other serious complaints about the Hyundai Tucson. But as small disadvantages users call:
- “weak” lateral support in the front driver’s seat;
- not enough space in the trunk;
- there is not enough heating of the windshield washer nozzles;
- there is no electric drive for the front seats (only in the top version);
- the finishing material in the cabin is not always of high quality (in some places there is “hard” plastic);
- on back row Insufficient smoothness of the seats is felt more strongly, which can overshadow the sensations of traveling long distances;
- even in the gentle mode, the brakes begin to “smell” when descending a mountain (but do not lose effectiveness).
The list of disadvantages has increased significantly since previous years, and all because achieving a new level of quality brought with it more demands from the consumer. It is worth noting that some of these disadvantages can be eliminated by additionally ordering the appropriate options.
Undoubted advantages
Along with an expanded list of complaints based on owner reviews, an equally significant list of advantages of the 2015-2018 Hyundai Tucson model has been compiled.
- enlarged discs;
- comfortable seating in the chair;
- spectacular appearance (Hyundai Tussan 3 looks different than its predecessor - more modern, more dynamic, sportier);
- increased level of comfort in the cabin;
- greater availability of electric assistants even in the standard version;
- spacious interior (the crossover has become more spacious);
- good ride quality(dynamics, handling, visibility);
- wide choice of configurations;
- optimal level of price/quality ratio;
- Fuel consumption has become more economical (especially when using a diesel engine), and engines are more powerful;

Hyundai Tussan 2019 model year: after restyling
This year, the 3rd generation model underwent its first planned update. Fans around the world closely followed the crash tests that took place in January 2018 and preliminary data on new version. The results of the work were presented at the next auto show in New York. The 2019 Hyundai Tucson has been revealed to the world in all its glory, the restyling of which has just been completed (this spring).
What has changed in the “Korean” beloved by Russians? In addition to working on the exterior, the developers paid attention to the interior, power range and added technical bells and whistles.
Design
The 2019 model year model will feature a new front and rear design, improved interior trim options, and a modern version of the multimedia system. Hyundai Tucson received new bumper, updated optics, radiator grille, and 18-inch wheels became available in the restyled version.
Power range and configurations
The power range has changed significantly. The 2019 Hyundai Tussan will be available with the following engines:
- 2.0 “four” with direct injection system, 164 hp. (torque 205 Nm), will be available with 6 automatic transmission in Value and SE trim levels;
- 2.4 “four” with direct injection, 181 hp. (237 Nm) with 6 automatic transmission in SEL, Sport and Limited trim levels.
Previous modifications will receive a different set of functions and new names: basic Active, medium Comfort and Travel, top-end Prime. Already in basic version there will be such useful options, How:

- intelligent cruise control.
Also new Hyundai Tussan 2019 standard will receive an electronic parking brake with an automatic hold mode, rain sensors, a USB port in the rear row and a system wireless charging.
