Volkswagen Golf "Five out of seven." Technical specifications of Volkswagen Golf GTI

Well done who? Well done Golf. And twice. The founder of the class named after himself, in his free time from respectable burgher affairs, established the order of hot hatchbacks. GTI remains its undisputed leader to this day, simultaneously never tired of promoting the ideology of the wolf to the masses sheep's clothing, while competitors are overgrown with wings and holes in their bodies with air intakes.

Even in the anniversary version, the ancestors of inexpensive adrenaline generators are outwardly modest. A GTI you meet by chance will look after you enviously only if its driver sees the numbers 35 on the front fenders, another front bumper, darkened optics, black mirrors and sills from the R version, barely noticeable against the background of Carbon Steel Gray. As a result, the most striking feature, like the regular GTI, remains the red edging of the radiator grille.

Inside

Red elements on the steering wheel and DSG lever subtly enliven the realm of the German Ordnung. Design - not strong point Golf interior, the visual artist will die of boredom here. But for those who appreciate high-quality, thought-out items with impeccable ergonomics and meticulous assembly from the best materials- joy.

It's unusual to receive a birthday gift that is missing something. However, quirks of marketing gave birth to an anniversary GTI for the Russian market with thresholds and headrests reminiscent of the legend’s experience, but without navigation, parking sensors, light and rain sensors - the front panel is replete with plugs from installed options. But the phenomenally comfortable seats, upholstered in tenacious microfiber, the trimmed three-spoke steering wheel and the DSG lever stylized as a ball cannot be taken away from the GTI.

In move

Despite minor exterior and interior differences, technically the GTI Edition 35 is far from its regular counterparts. Volkswagen did not limit itself to banal chip tuning, as is usually the case with various special versions, and gave the hero of the day a deformed version of the good old EA113 from all-wheel drive Golf R with turbine K04. In order of subordination, the two-liter “four” was reduced in boost pressure, receiving 235 forces, which is 24 forces more than just the GTI. The torque is increased to 300 Nm (20 Nm higher), and is achieved a little later - in the range from 2,200 to 5,500 rpm.

Despite the slight whine, especially noticeable in first gear, and twitching in traffic jams, the DSG for the GTI is a comrade, friend and best partner. With the robot, the hatchback is indeed faster at acceleration, but the numbers are not the main thing. The 0.3 seconds gained from the mechanics are important, but not significant: Golf, even GTI is not Pagani Zonda. It's just that the acceleration is so exciting, the pickup on high speed, after five thousand, when the hatchback reaches its rated power, it is so invigorating and cheerful that I really don’t want to take my hands off the steering wheel. I just don't want to do it for fear of missing something important. That’s why I don’t even touch the gear shift paddles – there’s no need.

Claimed fuel consumption per 100 km

Best the enemy of the good. Even the standard Golf for taxiing has room to improve. We reduce the ground clearance, tighten the springs, shock absorbers with stabilizers and we get a Golf GTI. Therefore, the 35th does not need to be embarrassed that its suspension is exactly the same as the others - it is already as nimble as a flea.

To the envy of its rival followers, the GTI is not just phenomenally fast in corners. He tirelessly devours them one by one, with such equanimity ignoring the laws by which the rest of the powerful lives. front-wheel drive that you are amazed. If you think you went too far when entering a turn, give it some gas, you won’t be wrong. At the exit, an electronic imitation of the XDS differential lock will help, preventing the unloaded vehicle from slipping. front wheel. At the same time, karting responsiveness (but not nervousness!) organically coexists with the magnificent directional stability, allowing you to steer relaxedly on the highway with one hand.

With its composed, elastic but comfortable standard suspension with passive shock absorbers (electronically controlled Monroe shock absorbers are available as an option), business-class sound insulation and an exhaust that is tolerant to the neighbors' ears, the GTI can't just be daily auto. This is exactly what he is. An honest and detailed and definitive answer to eternal question, how to reconcile age-appropriate family values with brave prowess in the soul in one body. Therefore, a modest, discreet appearance is only a plus here. An elegant, classic suit from a good tailor, under which, like John Wick, hides an impressive arsenal capable of crushing anyone who dares to stand in the way, is always in price, and in our turbulent times, it is everywhere appropriate.

Purchase history

Two and a half years of ownership purchased in Golf salon The 1.2 seventh generation was not in vain for Alexander. He realized more and more clearly that he wanted the same, but faster and more maneuverable - that is, a GTI. Since the funds for latest version The legend, even in used form, was not enough, after the sale of just the Golf, the search began for the sixth GTI.

Alexander did not put forward any special criteria for the future car. I was simply looking for a copy that was as free from tuning as possible. This turned out to be difficult - just remember the St. Petersburg GTI, which was missing half of the parts in the suspension, but there were corrosion environments and bald summer tires in winter. Naturally, everything was different in the ad and in the photo.

Alexander almost went to Surgut, where, it turns out, they also love hot hatchbacks, but then he unexpectedly turned up interesting option in his native St. Petersburg. Not just any GTI, but a rare anniversary Edition 35, the existence of which Alexander had never even suspected before. One owner, 82,000 km of original mileage, a smooth body and generally acceptable condition convinced him that he should take it. The 2011 five-door car cost Alexander almost 900,000 rubles.

Repair

Diagnostics before purchase showed that the previous owner did not bother with servicing the car, knowing that he would soon sell it. Therefore, the first thing Alexander did was take the GTI for a major maintenance. Replacing the oil in the engine and gearbox, filters, including fuel, spark plugs, fuel pump and injection pump pusher cost 35,000 rubles along with the work.

A couple of months later it was time to inspect the front brakes. Alexander installed original discs and pads. Replacing the timing belts and alternator, as well as updating all silent blocks in the suspension, did not come as a surprise, unlike the need to replace a dead ignition coil. A more serious problem was the replacement intake manifold along with the damper regulator. Replacing the poorly installed windshield by the previous owner, which also had a lot of scuffs, helped get rid of the persistent smell of dampness in the cabin.

Tuning

This GTI did not escape modifications either. Wanting to improve the handling of the hatchback, Alexander installed screw suspension. Engine power, thanks to the replacement of the intake/exhaust and chip tuning, increased to approximately 320 hp. and 420-430 Nm. This, by the way, was the reason for the repeated replacement of the injection pump pusher during operation - on tuning engines it is changed once every 10,000 km. The only contribution to the exterior change is the SSR forged wheels. No other modifications, much less serious interference with the engine, are expected.

Exploitation

Since purchasing in 2016, the GTI's mileage has increased by 30,000 km. Alexander is happy to bring his hatchback to, in his opinion, ideal condition. The Golf never gave me any reason to doubt the correctness of my choice. According to Alexander's calculations this moment servicing the hot hatchback cost him approximately 150,000 rubles.

Expenses

  • Maintenance with oil change (Mobil Super3000 5W-40) and filters (original) every 5,000 km.
  • Fuel – ECTO-100

Plans

Will have to replace it again in the spring Windshield after the next stone. Then there will be body detailing and installation of alloy wheels sports design. Unfortunately, the current version of forged wheels was not for our roads. The suspension will have shortened Eibach Sportline springs, and the exhaust will be modified. During the season, Alexander plans to take part in 2-3 exhibitions and festivals.

Model history

Not wanting to postpone the premiere of its favorite, Volkswagen presented the world with the sixth edition of the GTI in the same 2008 as the main Golf line. Under the body with a recognizable conservative design hid modified technology and new motor developed by Audi - a two-liter turbo-four with direct injection fuel. Charge 211 hp. and 280 Nm was enough to accelerate to the first hundred in 7.2 seconds with a six-speed manual transmission. With the optional pre-selective, the GTI completed this exercise 0.3 seconds faster.

In 2011, the anniversary Edition 35 was released with a derated engine from the R version (235 hp, 300 Nm), and a year later a convertible was added to the traditional hatchbacks.

In 2012, a generational change occurred.

Premiere of hot Volkswagen hatchback The Golf 6 GTI was launched in the fall of 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. But car production began only at the beginning next year, and European dealers received the first commercial cars only in the spring.

Inside, the Volkswagen Golf 6 GTI greets you with sports seats and checkered upholstery, which has already become classic for this model. In addition, the hatch sports aluminum pedals, a different gearshift lever and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with contrast stitching.

Under the hood of the VW Golf 6 GTI there is a 2.0-liter petrol TSI turbo engine power 210 hp (280 Nm), which added 10 “horses” compared to the engine installed on its predecessor. Transmission options include 6-speed manual or robotic gearboxes.

Regardless of the number of doors and the installed box, the hatchback accelerates from zero to hundreds in 6.9 seconds, and its maximum speed reaches 240 km/h (with manual transmission) or 238 km/h (with DSG gearbox).

Among the others technical features Volkswagen Golf 6 GTI can be noted lowered by 22 mm ground clearance, adaptive suspension with different springs and shock absorbers, as well as the presence of an imitation XDS cross-axle differential lock.

Options and prices Volkswagen Golf 6 GTI 3D

Golf 6 GTI price at Russian market starts from 1,114,000 rubles. This is a car in a 3-door manual body. The surcharge for the robotic box is 60,000 rubles, and the five-door in similar versions is 22,850 rubles more expensive.

The standard equipment of all modifications includes 7 airbags, ABS, ESP, fog lights, front windows, heated electric mirrors, air conditioning, central locking with remote control and alloy wheels. For everything else you need to pay extra separately.

It is based on a fresh MQB platform. dimensions body sports version cars are slightly different: length is 4268 mm (+13 mm), width – 1799 (+0 mm), height – 1442 mm (-10 mm), wheelbase– 2631 (-6 mm). The Golf GTI chassis, composed of front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link, is equipped with springs and shock absorbers with original settings. The moderately tightened suspension and reduced ground clearance to 133 mm provide the necessary balance between comfort and handling. This balance is also maintained by the progressive steering. From lock to lock the steering wheel makes 2.1 turns.

On the Russian market, GTI has only one power plant– 2.0 liter turbocharged engine EA888 series, delivering a maximum of 220 hp. The engine is built on the basis of a cylinder block with integrated exhaust manifold. The fuel supply is controlled by the system combined injection, and phase shifters installed at the inlet and outlet are responsible for the opening and closing angles of the valves. The peak torque of 350 Nm, according to the passport technical specifications, is maintained in the range of 1500-4400 rpm, but still the main potential is realized closer to the upper limit of the range.

Paired with power unit Two types of transmission can operate: a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed robotic DSG. Both boxes do an excellent job of transmitting power flow, accelerating the car to “hundreds” in 6.5 seconds. Wherein Golf GTI with a manual transmission it saves gasoline a little better, burning an average of 6.0 liters over a period of 100 km. The fuel consumption of the modification with the DSG robot is 6.3 liters. Real consumption may differ significantly from the figures given, especially if you use the engine's capabilities to the maximum.

The idea of creating a special version production car, allowing you to get even more pleasure from driving, was not innovative. Previously, similar attempts were implemented in Renault 8 and 12 Gordini, as well as in Mini Cooper. Volkswagen introduced its version in 1976. This was the Golf GTI: fast, light, agile and yet just as capable as a regular Golf.

Over time, the GTI lost special character and at some point it turned into just one of the equipment options. And customers wanted the VW Golf to become even stronger. That's why modifications VR6, R32 and R appeared. Fortunately, the fifth generation of the model returned to the roots of the GTI. Those. the car was fast but not intimidatingly powerful, guaranteed to be fun to drive and great for daily driving.

Volkswagen Golf III with 2.0 V8 and 2.0 V16 engines

The third generation GTI didn't get off to a great start. Basic version 2.0 115 hp could not reach 200 km/h, and the acceleration time to 100 km/h exceeded 10 seconds. The clients were disappointed. Two years later, a 16-valve version of the engine with higher performance appeared.

Fortunately, the engines Golf III GTIs are truly durable. Many owners have successfully converted them to gas, but at the expense of performance. At that time, the GTI was equipped with one diesel engine– 110-horsepower 1.9 TDI.

Weak sides:

  • Gearbox malfunctions in 16-valve versions – speed loss.
  • Poor corrosion protection. Pockets of rust are found around the windshield frame and on the fenders. In three-door versions, heavy and long doors rub off the thresholds, exposing the metal, which soon begins to bloom.
  • Malfunctions in the engine electronics.

Technical specifications of the Volkswagen Golf III GTI

Volkswagen Golf IV with 1.8T V20 and 2.3 V5 engines

Unflattering reviews of the Golf III GTI required Volkswagen to change its approach in creating the next hot hatch. First of all, we decided to use turbocharged engines. It was good move. The petrol turbo units, reserved exclusively for the GTI, made customers feel like they were getting something special. However, 150 hp. - not so much. The Golf IV GTI was slower than the Golf I GTI and had a worse power-to-weight ratio. In the first generation it was 7.36 kg per 1 hp, and in the fourth - 8 kg / 1 hp. The fourth GTI is a comfortable car that can be driven dynamically, but it lacks lightness and agility.

The 1.8T 20V engine has an unusual design. It has 5 valves per cylinder. The turbo engine allows you to install gas equipment. The main thing is to use good equipment. True, if the cylinder head is damaged, restoration will be twice as expensive as in the 2.0 8V.

During operation, malfunctions of the ignition coils, wear of the turbocharger (the original service life is over 200,000 km) and the timing chain connecting the camshafts, and failure are possible throttle valve. Otherwise, the Golf IV is a rather reliable car, unless it has been in a serious accident.

It should be emphasized that at the time of the Volkswagen Golf 4, the GTI version became one of the equipment options. It was distinguished by characteristic wheels and interior decoration consoles in maple-like wood.

During production, the range of GTI engines was replenished with a diesel 1.9 TDI (115-150 hp) and a petrol 2.3 V5. IN last years 1.8T power increased to 180 hp. The owners raised its output to 250-280 hp.

Volkswagen Golf V with 2.0 TFSI engine (200 and 230 hp)

Changes, changes and more changes - this is how the fifth generation Golf can be briefly described in comparison with the fourth. The same applies to the GTI. Instead of torsion beam At the rear, a reliable and fairly durable multi-link design is used. Under the hood are completely new turbocharged engines with direct fuel injection TFSI. Appeared and DSG box, which debuted back in the Golf IV, but only in the R32.

This time around, a lot of effort has been put into making the Golf GTI resemble its progenitor. Red lines, a radiator grille with large honeycombs and striking wheel disks. Sports seats are striking in the cabin, steering wheel with thickening in the grip areas and “GTI” logos.

The cars received a 6-speed manual or robotic DSG. Four-wheel drive was not available even for an extra charge. Although all-wheel drive transmission existed in weaker civilian versions and as standard in the top-end R32.

The 2006 Edition 30 is especially attractive. It was prepared for the model's 30th anniversary. The engine was boosted by 30 hp. Stylistic details are noticeable inside. For example, the gear selector handle for manual transmission and DSG is made in the shape of a tennis ball for playing golf.

In the advertisements you can also find GTIs imported from the USA. Unfortunately, many of them have been in accidents and have rather poor equipment. However, sometimes specimens from Europe cannot boast of good equipment. Volkswagen required extra payments for most of the equipment.

The most risky component in a car is the gearbox. DSG gears. At proper care it can withstand more than 200,000 km. When used in racing mode, its service life is reduced by 2 times. Repairs will require at least 100,000 rubles. Manual transmission is the most optimal choice. It is reliable and works great.

The engine, as a rule, does not cause problems (designation AXX and BWA). Over time, the fuel pump may need to be replaced high pressure, faulty ignition coils or turbocharger purge valve. Updating the timing belt will present certain difficulties, since it will be necessary to dismantle the fragment exhaust system, and the screws usually get stuck. Even with replacement air filter They'll do a better job at service. In addition, after 100,000 km, a lot of soot accumulates in the intake.

Disadvantages include a vulnerable air conditioning compressor and rapid wear rear tires(as a result of incorrect wheel geometry). Beware of using large rims. Potholes on the roads disappear very quickly low profile tires and pendant.

Aluminum inserts are standard, as is the thick steering wheel. A rarity is RNS color navigation.

Volkswagen Golf VI with 2.0 TFSI engine

The technological gap between the fifth and sixth Golf is minimal. In fact, the new generation is just a facelift. The GTI VI received the same engine - a 2-liter turbo unit with direct injection. True, the power has increased: up to 211 hp. in the standard version and up to 235 hp. in the "Edition 35" version. The engine index has changed to 4 letters: CCZB and CDLG.

Buyers increasingly opted for the DSG robotic gearbox. New at the time of its debut was the system electronic lock XDS cross-axle differential. Essentially, this is an imitation of a limited slip differential using ESP systems. Appeared xenon headlights and an automatic parking system.

The Golf VI GTI surprises with its versatility. The 5-door body is truly functional. Trunk volume from 350 to 1305 liters.

The engine allows you to move on low revs, consuming in normal mode only about 9 liters per 100 km. Using the full tachometer scale it is easy to exceed 13 l/100 km.

So far, the Golf VI GTI is considered quite reliable. Among typical malfunctions can be distinguished:

  • failure safety valve turbocharger;
  • creaking plastic in the cabin;
  • premature wear of the water pump.

In light of the emergence in Russia of a new seventh generation legendary Volkswagen Golf GTI, we decided to refresh our memory and remember how the history of this car developed. We will do this in reverse chronological order so that we can enjoy a smooth transition to the most delicious thing - to the beginning of the historical journey of the Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Sixth Volkswagen Golf GTI, discontinued at the end of last year, like the fresh seventh generation, debuted during Paris Motor Show in October of the crisis year of 2008. But, despite the economic problems raging around the world, demand for the Volkswagen Golf GTI 6 was quite high from the very beginning of sales. The sixth Golf was built on a successful platform Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) platform, inherited from previous generation, And his appearance developed by Walter da Silva and Klaus Bischof.

The design of the Golf GTI VI can easily be considered a deep restyling of its predecessor, so the designers didn’t bother too much, only slightly retouching the contours of the car, moving the muffler pipes to different edges, and harmoniously incorporating new elements into the exterior: fresh optics, a different radiator grille and modified bumpers. The interior of the “six” could boast of very rich equipment, available already in the basic configuration. Thus, the Golf GTI 6 was equipped with 4 airbags, side curtain airbags, comfortable sports seats, an audio system, electrical accessories, climate control and other pleasures of a motorist’s life.

The sixth was produced Volkswagen generation Golf GTI in several body variations. Traditionally, the most popular were three- and five-door hatchbacks, followed by a five-door station wagon, and last on the list was a two-door convertible, the production of which was launched only a few years ago. Moreover, the convertible had four seats, while all other cars had a full five-seater interior.

Under the hood of the sixth generation Volkswagen Golf GTI was the EA888 engine, developed by Audi specialists. This four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline unit with direct injection, complemented by a BorgWarner K03 turbocharger, developed a serious 210 hp for the C-Class. power, simultaneously producing 280 Nm of torque and allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Two gearboxes were offered for the “six”: a 6-speed manual transmission, as well as a robotic “automatic” DSG.

As befits a “charged” car, the VW Golf GTI VI had three suspension options to suit every taste and budget. In addition to the standard independent design focused on good roads And racing tracks, for the sixth generation, reinforced suspension was offered for bad roads with increased ground clearance, as well as adaptive suspension DCC with Adaptive Chassis Control.

Fifth generation Volkswagen Golf GTI was produced exactly five years during 2003 – 2008. The VW Golf GTI V became the first “smoothed” “charged” Golf, getting rid of distinct straight lines in the contours of the body. This step was dictated by the spirit of the times and made it possible to modernize the Golf GTI, without which competition in the market could have been lost. Like the subsequent “six”, the fifth Golf GTI was based on Volkswagen platform Group A5 (PQ35) platform, which made it possible to slightly increase the dimensions of the car by adding free space in the cabin and trunk.

The fifth generation Volkswagen Golf GTI is one of the few German cars early - mid-2000s, which received such an abundance of praise. New chassis with multi-link rear suspension and new steering made the Volkswagen Golf 5 GTI one of the leaders in its segment in terms of handling and stability during high-speed maneuvers. It was from the fifth generation that the VW Golf GTI received a full-fledged sporting spirit, which significantly influenced the growth of subsequent sales.

The main attraction of the Golf GTI V, meanwhile, was not the suspension, but the EA113 engine. This four cylinder turbocharged unit was capable of developing a crazy 200 hp for the segment, as well as 280 Nm of torque. With such a monster under the hood, the fifth generation Volkswagen Golf GTI easily accelerated to 233 km/h, while accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. The engine was equipped with a 6-speed “robot” or a 6-speed “mechanics”, with which the dynamic characteristics deteriorated slightly - acceleration to the first hundred took 7.2 seconds.

Fourth generation VW Golf GTI(1998 – 2004) can hardly be called a full-fledged generation. Rather, it was a separate package civilian version Golf, which is why in the history of the Golf GTI line the “four” left the most inconspicuous mark, standing out only for the presence of Recaro seats, yes alloy wheels BBS.

Under the hood of the Golf GTI IV was located naturally aspirated engine V5 with a volume of 2.3 liters, a turbocharged unit with a volume of 1.8 liters or a 1.9 liter turbodiesel. The first, depending on the design variation, was capable of developing 150 or 170 hp. power, the second produced 150 or 180 hp, but the diesel was limited to 119 hp.

I remember the original color pattern of the classic mesh sports seats, smoothed interior shapes and the appearance of large headlights.

The production of the third generation started in 1991 and at first the car received a very mediocre benzie new engine 2.0 liter capacity, capable of squeezing out only 115 hp. But by 1993, the Germans had prepared a new engine with a 16-valve timing mechanism, which made it possible to increase the engine power to 150 hp acceptable for a “charged” car. With the new engine, the third generation Volkswagen Golf GTI confidently accelerated to a maximum of 215 km/h, and reached the first hundred on the speedometer in an impressive 8.7 seconds. Production of the Troika was stopped in 1998.

Second generation Volkswagen Golf GTI started in 1984. It was during this period that a historical moment occurred - the production of the millionth car (1991).

Externally, the “two” has become noticeably sportier than the founder of the line, but at the same time it has become noticeably heavier, which affected the dynamic characteristics– with more powerful engine the car accelerated almost a second longer. But this was typical only for the first engine of the “two” - a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine, which developed only 112 hp. In 1987, a new 139-horsepower engine was installed on the Golf GTI II, as well as ABS system. And two years later, production of the G60 modification began, equipped with a 160 hp engine.

And finally legendary first Volkswagen Golf GTI generation, which marked the beginning of the era of “charged” hatchbacks in 1976. The very first Volkswagen Golf GTI was equipped with Audi engine, which was previously tested on the Audi 80 GTE. It was a 110-horsepower naturally aspirated four with a displacement of 1.6 liters and mechanical fuel injection, which provided fantastic dynamic performance for that time: acceleration to the first 100 km/h took only 9.1 seconds, and the top speed was 182 km/h. hour.

A very interesting fact is that initially the Germans planned to produce only five thousand copies of the VW Golf GTI I, but the crazy demand for the new product, which caused delight around the world, forced Volkswagen to reconsider its plans and launch the “charged” version in mass production, as a result of which seven generations of the Volkswagen Golf GTI were born.
No less curious is the fact of the appearance of the name Golf itself, which is still being debated. At that time in German company there was a practice of naming their new products after winds or currents. Ruler Golf cars was named after the warm Gulf Stream that warms Europe, so the car golf class or the chief designer’s love for the game of golf have absolutely nothing to do with it.
