Compare the sizes of fortuner and prado. Toyota Fortuner vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: Comparison. Common features of Fortuner and Prado

New Toyota Fortune r 2017.

Your attention, frame Toyota Fortuner finally made it to Russia. It can be called a budget Prado - that's not entirely true. Fortuneer, as Toyota dubbed it for our market, is built on the Hilux platform. And, this is the second generation of the model. The first was produced in Thailand and Kazakhstan. At that time, Toyota marketers thought that the car would not be comfortable enough for Russian buyer, therefore, they did not enter the market. By the way, the direct competitor of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is still selling well in the Russian Federation. But everyone is now listening exactly to marketers who have blinded a kind of frame-crossover. The Hilux base is not expensive. If you put on an attractive body, a seven-seater saloon and replace the rear springs with a semi-independent suspension, a rather competitive product will be released, and a family one. The idea is good, but with the current dollar rate, the price tag is not at all competitive. It is expected that for the basic model, assembled in Thailand, they will ask for from 2.2 - 2.5 million rubles - this is the best case.

What then is the difference from Pajero sport that starts at about the same money? The highlight is the furnishings and interior fittings. Even budget model Toyota tries to stuff modern equipment, add steel, wood. So that the person who got into it feels more expensive car... It doesn't matter if it's a Corolla or a RAV-4. Fortuner was no exception. They tried to squeeze the maximum "premium" out of the salon for their money. We added a lot of plastic under the wood and steel. Sheathed the front panel and seats with brown "leather". It may smell like cheapness, but this approach is much better than open, "oak plastic". Well, the exterior, in comparison with the Pajero, is more pleasant.

Of the options - everything that a modern person needs: 7 airbags, bi-xenon headlights with diode running lights, USB / AUX, seven-inch multimedia with reversing camera, keyless access, email tailgate drive, light and rain sensor, 3-zone climate control, heated steering wheel and seats, assistance when going up and down the mountain.

All-wheel drive hard-wired (Part-time). He possesses low gear with blocking rear axle... The main drive is rear. The "front end" is turned on forcibly, up to 100 km / h. Finally - a "clearance" of 225mm. With such an arsenal, you can travel with confidence.

There are two engines to choose from: a 2.7 liter petrol (163 hp) and a 2.8 turbo diesel (188 hp). There are also two transmissions: a six-speed hydro-automatic or a mechanic. Power units modest. Perhaps for our market they will borrow a 4 liter, Gas engine from LC Prado, but who knows.

Such a Fortuneer will be good to buy in Russia. Indeed, for reasonable (with the current exchange rate) money, you will receive a large, passable, well-equipped car for the whole family. And, most importantly, it is reliable and not whimsical - it's Toyota. And, in our country, just for this they love her. Therefore, the age of the buyer can be very different.

Toyota Fortuner - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: both have spar frames, independent suspensions in the front and axle at the rear, a 2.8-liter diesel with a 6-speed automatic, a lowering and a 7-seater saloon. Real! We have two almost identical cars, which even have very similar prices.

Toyota could not decide for a long time whether to expand the lineup firms in Russia Toyota model Fortuner or not, because the first generation SUV was not officially offered in our country. As a result, since the world debut Fortuner second generations have passed almost 2.5 years until Russian office brand has decided to start sales.

For the basic Toyota Fortuner, they ask exactly 2 million rubles, and the Prado will cost 200 thousand more. If we compare diesel versions, like ours, then the price, respectively, is 2.6 million rubles. for the Fortuner and 2.92 million rubles for the Prado. Is it worth overpaying, and in general, why does Toyota need two very close cars?

For 2 months of sales since the debut at the end of October 2017, 1270 buyers voted for Fortuner. The updated Prado showed growth in the same period of time and showed the result of 4070 cars sold. The answer to the question whether it is worth overpaying for the status of Prado, and whether the Fortuner is so hardy, we looked in the snow-covered forests of the Moscow region and on the ice track of the polygon.

Toyota Fortuner - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for real men

New Fortuner second after pickup Hilux company model built on the IMV platform. At the heart of the "bogie" is the most durable spar frame of the Heavy Duty type among Toyota civilians, and the manufacturer positions the Fortuner as an SUV designed for operation in difficult conditions, but not utilitarian in terms of equipment: the list of options includes quite "civilian" climate control, multimedia with 7-inch display, leather interior, system directional stability and other attributes of comfort and safety.

In total, Toyota has 3 spar frame options: Heavy Duty, which is used on the Fortuner and the pickup (they differ in length and rear suspension, but the frame design is very similar) Light Duty is used on Prado and Premium for and.

Already from the very designation of the frame, you can understand that the Fortuner, assembled in Thailand, was created for more difficult work while the Prado is closer to premium. The same can be said for the all-wheel drive design. If the Fortuner, like the one, uses a simpler and cheaper Part-time scheme with permanent rear-wheel drive and a rigid front end connection, then the Prado has a more advanced permanent all-wheel drive with a differential. Although, if desired, it can be blocked. There are pogo pods on both cars.

In terms of suspension design, the Prado is also more perfect. V expensive versions it is equipped with switchable KDSS anti-roll bars. In the city, their presence does not give itself away. In terms of the level of rolls, the Prado is quite comparable with Fortuner, but on the off-road the stabilizers cease to interfere with the axes crossing, and on very steep bends, where Fortuner hangs rear wheel The Prado is still holding on.

Competitor Fortuner in our test, and in the Russian market - a colleague in the concern, a long-term bestseller in its segment, Land Cruiser prado which has recently undergone another update. At the heart of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is the Light Duty frame - a compromise between comfort and off-road qualities... And, although Prado is a brand that does not require explanations, a car “out of time” with an army of loyal fans, Fortuner with exactly the same engine and similar equipment is cheaper by 300 thousand rubles.

Cars on the test with the same 2.8-liter diesel 177-horsepower engines, 6-speed automatic transmissions, are shod in identical tires, therefore, in competitions with a stopwatch and off-road, the features of the transmission and chassis settings will come to the fore.

In very deep snow

The Fortuner is rear-wheel drive under normal conditions, front-wheel drive is hard-wired.

Prado with permanent all-wheel drive, in addition, in the arsenal of a more expensive SUV there is a choice among the abundance of electronic assistants that facilitate off-road driving (active traction control, assistance systems when driving downhill and ascent, systems for maintaining a constant speed on off-road), and our version provides for the possibility of forced locking of the rear cross-wheel differential.

On both cars, all-wheel drive is controlled by the electronics, and although the Fortuner and Prado have a downshift, modern cars permeability depends not only on the skill of the driver, but also on artificial intelligence.

It is better not to go to extremes: the front towing eye on the Prado is located extremely inconveniently, and the need to use it off-road will not meet the enthusiasm of the owner, unless, of course, he is a fan of off-road.

The ground clearance of the Toyota Fortuner is 10 mm higher than that of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (225 versus 215mm). A strong feature of the Prado is driver friendliness: even the most inexperienced owner on rough terrain is backed up by electronics. Potentially, the Fortuner is not inferior to the Prado in terms of off-road potential, however, in order to realize it, a sophisticated driver must be behind the wheel of the Fortuner.

At first glance, it might seem that the presence of locking rear and center differentials, as well as the assisting electronics can replace the large suspension travel, but even with the full off-road potential in deep snow, we clearly found out that the Prado will go a little further than Fortuner.

For increased comfort, the Prado boasts a height-adjustable rear air suspension. On ground clearance this has no effect, since it remains unchanged under the engine protection and rear axle housing. But the air suspension allows you to maintain a constant body height regardless of the load, and it will also come in handy when loading a car or, for example, when towing a heavy trailer. You can lower the stern to the lower position, drive under the trailer drawbar and then raise the vehicle.

And, of course, the mass of auxiliary electronics, which in Prado practically reached the level of the Land Cruiser 200. In winter conditions, we did not find any sense in it. Under full throttle and with acceleration, he drives noticeably further than with the help of assistants. And if you sit down, take a rope or a shovel, whichever is closer.

At a meeting with friends, the owner of the new Prado will have something to brag about. There is MTS - Multi-Terrain Select. It is a washer with which the driver can choose one of six types of off-road, which he is now going to conquer. She can also set the speed of the off-road cruise control. The main thing in the heat of the fight is not to confuse the washers. Previously, there was one puck on the Prado, but now there are two of them. One is responsible for electronic assistants, and the second is quite serious - it turns on the lowering.

There are still three keys next to the selector, but they now have five options for working power plant: Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport S and Sport S +. This, of course, does not add speed, especially when there is a 177-horsepower diesel engine under the hood, and the mass of the car noticeably exceeds 2 tons, but you can boast - almost like a Mercedes AMG.

While the Prado is clean, 4 all-round cameras and interesting function"Transparent hood". The system records a picture from the front camera and, as the car moves forward, an image of what the wheels are currently driving is displayed on the screen. The truth in the snow of help from such a system is zero. An x-ray or an echo sounder would be more useful here, but this is already a fantasy.

Toyota-Land-Cruiser-Prado: The center console has been significantly updated in the cabin. It became slightly lower, which, together with the central depression on the hood, improved visibility. As in the two hundred, the driver sees better the track on which he goes right wheel... Sunroof - you always know where the sun is.

Of course, Fortuner does not have all of the above, and this is what makes it more accessible and more reliable. KDSS system, adjustable shock absorbers and even more so, air suspension in severe off-road conditions does not potentially exclude problems. Toyota Fortuner can be more daringly dipped in snow and swamps. We even jumped on it from a rather big slide ( look at the video), thought it would fall apart, but no, landed and then jumped again.

The only thing that may cause concern for the owner of Fortuner is the electric drive of the transfer case. If instead of him an ordinary poker, many would be happy.

For details on the fight against deep snow, see on video: in a real situation, both cars had to be pulled out, it's good that they did without a tractor. In a couple Toyota Fortuner - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado - the last deep snow will drive on.

Driving along a slippery circle

Compared to the Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota Fortuner is 100 kg lighter and from this, with the same 177-horsepower diesel engine, it feels a little more dynamic. Although you still don't want to dash on it. Toyota does not even indicate the acceleration time to hundreds. But given that the Prado sprints in 12.7 seconds, it can be assumed that Fortuner should leave 12.5 seconds. It's still not fast, but it's even worse to turn on it.

When spinning quickly, the Toyota Fortuner sometimes bites the steering wheel, although the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado does not have such a problem.

Our goal on a fast lap, of course, is to find out who is faster, but not in order to choose the best SUV for racing, but to get an idea of how these monsters will behave in emergency situation, for example, if necessary, to dodge an obstacle on the track.

On a fast loop, oddly enough, Prado turned out to be better, although he lost a little in seconds. Yes, it's a little heavier, but the improved suspension, even without the help of electronics, clearly helps it. The steering wheel is lighter and more accurate, and the ergonomics are better.

During dynamic races on packed snow, the Fortuner turned out to be faster than the heavier Prado, but only for a few moments - 0.3 seconds. At the same time, the Fortuner yielded to Prado in terms of handling and driving comfort: the rigidity of the Fortuner tires, and what was initially taken for brutality looks heavy and even redundant with active use.

The fresh exterior and refined interior did not change the essence of the Fortuner - first of all, it is a vehicle for overcoming, and not for solving routine tasks.

Toyota-Fortuner: The second row is spacious and comfortable.

Toyota-Fortuner: maybe a third row of seats.

Toyota-Fortuner: Our snow removal equipment here at ease.

Toyota-Land-Cruiser-Prado in position - two rows of seats.

Toyota-Land-Cruiser-Prado - spacious in the second row.

Conclusion: Toyota Fortuner - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado - both are real! If you want to save money, Fortuner will help.

In contrast to the Fortuner's enormous safety margin, the Land Cruiser Prado does not flex its muscles in vain: it is a versatile, liquid vehicle whose virtues are passed down from generation to generation.

Toyota Fortuner is a newcomer, he is young, but still green. Perhaps, somewhere in the outback, his less noble manners will come in handy, but for a city dweller, he still does not hold out.

Manufacturer's pricing policy: Toyota Fortuner - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
After the appearance on the Russian market of gasoline versions, the base price for Fortuner decreased to 2 million rubles, this is how much they ask official dealers for a car with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 166 hp. and a 5-speed manual transmission in the "Standard" package. For a 6-automatic transmission and the next set of "Comfort" with it, you will have to pay 385 thousand. The richest versions "Elegance" and "Prestige" are available only with diesel unit(from 2,638 million rubles).
Configurator Prado offers options that dealers do not equip Fortuner for any money. The price range is almost twofold: while the Classic version is estimated at 2.289 million rubles, the Safety Suite starts at 4.089 million rubles! A choice of 2 petrol and diesel engines, 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, 5- or 7-seater cabin configuration, in addition, a wide range of additional equipment is available for the Land Cruiser Prado.

In anticipation of the start of sales of the new Toyota Fortuner SUV on the Russian market, we offer you a short comparison with the popular one. After all, despite the fact that the Fortuner is based on another Hilux SUV, the new product from Toyota is always compared with the Prado.

At the front, the Toyota Fortune has a double wishbone independent suspension, while at the rear, the car is equipped with a five-link suspension with anti-roll bar.

By the way, new SUV also got classical system all-wheel drive with hard manual connection front wheel drive with a reduction gear. Also equipped with Toyota Fortune rear differential lock.

Sadly, Toyota has yet to announce a price tag for the new SUV. Yes, of course it will certainly be cheaper, but this difference is unlikely to be more significant. Indeed, despite the different classes of cars, both cars are still similar in technology and spirit.

In addition, of course, this model will compete directly more with the cost of which is just over 2 million rubles. So for the fans Toyota SUVs do not expect the Fortune model to be cheaper than 2 million rubles.

Will Toyota Fortune be in demand?

There are different opinions on this matter. Someone thinks that the new SUV on the Russian market will fail. Someone, on the contrary, believes that the model will become popular and will actually take away market share from Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

But all this is fortune telling on the coffee grounds. In fact, how the new SUV will be sold will show the first year of sales, which will begin at the end of 2017.

Oh sure, Toyota takes conscious risks, bringing another SUV to the Russian market. Indeed, in fact, at the moment, interest in this segment on the market has noticeably decreased in favor of those with monocoque bodies, which are cheaper and more economical.

But, nevertheless, do not forget that the car market in Russia is not only Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Sochi, etc. large cities, where most often people are in the city and, in principle, do not need a real SUV.

So, of course, in the country as a whole, the new model of an SUV on the Russian market is fully justified. Indeed, more than half of the country's population lives in areas where the quality of roads leaves much to be desired. And it is in such regions that the SUV cannot be replaced. But since there are not so many on the Russian market, we believe that Toyota Fortune has chances in Russia.

Russia has been waiting for Fortuner for a long time. The first generation was close, but you can't bite: the car was made in Kazakhstan, but they were not allowed in Russia. The second generation from 2015 came to us with a delay, delaying adaptation and certification for our market. What did you get in the end? Let's tell you now.

But first, let's deal with two important points... First, how is the name Fortuner pronounced correctly? Toyota is categorical here: no "Fortuners", "Fortuneers", "Fotuners" and other variations! In Russia, the English pronunciation of the word Fortuner is used, and it sounds like "Fortuneer", with an emphasis on the first syllable.

Why only this way, and not otherwise, is easily explained in our section "Let me talk". By the way, some Russian witches have already stuck to the car the nicknames "Grumpy" and "Lucky" (Fortuner - from the word Fortune, "fortune") ...

Fortuner in Russia has at least 17-inch wheels with 265/65 tires. In the top version "Prestige" (pictured) there are road tires 265/60 R18, but for the test they put more "toothy" tires. LED headlights near and high beam- basic equipment.

The second point is genealogy. In spite of frequent delusion, neither the first (2005-2015) nor the second generation Fortuner (since 2015) use the Land Cruiser Prado platform! At the heart of the "Fortuner" both the past and the present is a more durable frame chassis and Hilux pickup units of the corresponding generations.

Although the platforms have differences, of course. The wheelbase of the current Fortuner (2745 mm) is 340 mm shorter than that of the current generation Hilux. Suspensions are also different. Shock absorbers from Fortuner are already different, with more comfortable settings. And instead of the rear springs, there are softer springs, an anti-roll bar and other kinematics with 4 longitudinal jet rods and one transverse link.

Toyota claims the Fortuner as a car for those who do not want to overpay for the Prado, and plans to actively use the car as an SUV and "expeditionary". It's a pity to ruin the expensive and sophisticated Prado off the roads, the Casco insurance on it costs like a cast-iron bridge, and they buy it more often as a "statusmobile", and not an earth-moving projectile. And the Fortuner, standing a step below, is just that very simplified and more utilitarian alternative, without unnecessary pathos and show-off.

Against the background of the "Asian" decoration of Fortuner, the Prado salon clearly looks stricter, laconic - and more expensive. Slippery wood on the steering wheel is out of place, the soiled multimedia screen is discordant with the ancient buttons, and the chubby leather "cheeks" of the center console get in the way of the knees. But gears click on the steering wheel, there is room for coffee and a telephone, and an electric heater in the air ducts helps to warm up the interior faster.

In addition, SUVs have differences in bodywork, different interiors and equipment levels (the Fortuner is simpler). For example, all-round cameras, front seat ventilation, 3-zone "climate", rear air suspension, adaptive and off-road cruise control, auto-braking function, lane control and driver fatigue, the MTS off-road mode selection system is available in Prado, but more utilitarian "Fortuner "they are not implied by the word" at all ".

Prado has permanent all-wheel drive with Torsen self-blocking center (it can be locked forcibly), while Fortuner front axle is rigidly connected by the driver (part-time scheme) only on slippery surfaces. Forced blocking both SUVs have a rear cross-axle differential.

The glove compartment is a 2-storey one (the upper one is cooled), under the corner air ducts there are pull-out cup holders. The "beak" of the armrest interferes with the use of buttons back lock, disable stabilization and calibration of tire pressure sensors. In front of them are the keys for the "power" and economical automatic transmission modes. The "climate" block is clear and convenient. The AWD selector (bottom left) is easy to use by touch without leaving the road. Nearby are the buttons for the descent assistant, heated steering wheel and 1-stage heated front seats.

The dimensions are also different: the Prado is 45 mm longer, 30 mm wider and 60 mm taller than the Fortuner. The Prado also has a 45 mm longer wheelbase and a 50 mm wider track. The Fortuner has more ground clearance (225 mm versus 215), but the Prado has a steeper approach angle (32 degrees versus 29), and parity (25 degrees) in the exit angle.

Under the hood of the Fortuner supplied to Russia is a completely new 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbodiesel, which debuted in the current generation of the Hilux pickup in 2015, and was registered in the Prado in the same year. By the way, he also has a 150-strong younger brother 2GD-FTV with a volume of 2.4 liters, but Fortuner with such an engine is not yet sold to Russia, although it is in other world markets.

The Russian diesel Fortuner has two batteries and an engine coolant heater in the form of a viscous clutch that heats up during operation with a belt drive from a crankshaft pulley (the same scheme for Hilux and LC200). Prado has a pre-heater for the engine and interior, controlled by the application or SMS, but "Fortuner" is not supposed to.

The top-end diesel engine with a volume of 2.8 liters has direct 5-stage fuel injection with a pressure of 2200 bar, a turbocharger picking up speed faster with variable geometry and a timing chain. Recoil - 177 hp and 450 Nm of torque, while the 3-liter predecessor had 171 "horses" and 360 Nm. The new diesel engine meets Euro-5 standards, for which, in addition to the catalyst, it is installed in the exhaust tract particulate filter... The gearbox for the Russian market is only a 6-speed automatic.

With a new diesel engine and automatic transmission, the Fortuner drove faster and quieter than it was with its 3-liter predecessor. Without revelations, but confidently pulls from a place and accelerates from medium speeds and revs, less often requires switching "down", leaving due to the increased torque. And the diesel now also reacts more quickly to the gas pedal than it used to be. You can also spur the engine and gearbox by pressing the Power Mode button next to the gearbox selector - it makes the reactions to gas sharper.

The engine compartment, aluminum dispenser and fuel tank are covered with a steel guard. The towing eyes are hidden behind the upper plastic shields.

On the track, with active acceleration, the pressure of the diesel engine is expected to drop, although overtaking was also given without problems here. By the way, the box is still not manual mode, and the traditional Toyota ranges. That is, the figure when "tidying up" does not show the stage, but the switching range - for example, from the first to the third. As for the highway engine speed, in 6th gear and 2000 rpm the speedometer shows almost 120 km / h.

On the go, the diesel Prado will be quieter: in the Fortuner, the characteristic diesel growl breaks through more into the interior, especially on high revs with active acceleration and overtaking. As for fuel consumption, a pre-styling diesel Prado... In city-highway-off-road mode, on-board computer Fortuner got 12.5-13.1 l / 100 km, Prado - 13.4-14.1 l / 100 km. The fuel tank for the Fortuner is 80 liters, for the Prado - 87.

Leather seat upholstery and the driver's seat servo are only in the top, although there is no lumbar support setting in it. Ease of landing - no revelations (Prada's chairs seem more comfortable), and the ranges of the longitudinal settings of the steering wheel and seats are too small for tall people. There are handrails on the racks only at the front.

In terms of dynamics, the Fortuner is also faster than the Prado: the maximum speed is 180 km / h against 175, and the acceleration to 100 km / h for the diesel Fortuner takes 11.2 seconds versus 12.7 for the Prado. Why is there such a difference if the motors, gearboxes and even the main pairs (3.9) are the same for both SUVs? The larger diesel Prado is heavier: its curb weight is 2235-2500 kg, depending on the configuration, while the Fortuner weighs 2215-2260 kg. By the way, the weight of the towed trailer with brakes is the same for both SUVs and is 3 tons.

How does the road hold on high speeds, what is the smoothness and vibration load?

In the tests of SUVs, the journalistic fraternity often writes that they say that this car would have a "toothy" rubber. Toyota clearly heard these calls and rebooted the test cars, replacing the standard road tires with more "evil" Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac АТ tires in serial size 265/60 R18 (such top-end configuration"Prestige", which was on the test). And since we had to drive on icy roads, this rubber was also studded.

There are air ducts both on the ceiling and under the front seats. The ceiling panel controls only the second "kondeem". At the back there is a drawer with a 12 volt socket, pockets for change and hooks for bags. Landing on the middle sliding row is low, the knees are spacious, but under the front seats, the legs in large shoes are cramped. With a height of 180 cm, a fist passes over the head, in front of the gap to the ceiling is greater. The back (there is an armrest with cup holders) cannot be thrown far back - the folded chairs of the 3rd row interfere.

There is no doubt, on such "bast shoes" Fortuner looks cooler, and off-road the rubber clings and "row" unlike the regular one, and on stones you are less afraid of punctures due to a thicker sidewall and a developed tread. But such wheels are very weighty, and grown unsprung masses immediately reflected on how the car drives. But it is clear what the future owner needs to prepare for, who wants to put more off-road tires on the Fortuner.

And you need to prepare for a rougher and more shaky move than the Prado, although this should not be surprising. On the track, the Fortuner normally keeps a straight line, handles and brakes adequately, rolls predictably, and the tires are less noisy than expected. But also because of the heavy wheels Fortuner transmits medium and large defects of the canvas to the steering wheel, seats and body in the form of pokes and vibrations, shakes the rear riders on the "speed bumps".

You can connect the front axle (H4 mode) at a speed of up to 100 km / h, and there are no speed restrictions on turning it off. The front gearbox has an oil overheating sensor that sends a signal to the dashboard.

On graders and primers, too, it is necessary to "heap" with caution. As long as it is more or less even under the wheels - everything is fine, you can drive briskly. But if you get into a large hole, then along with blows to the steering wheel, it is easy to catch a hard breakdown of the front suspension, which has happened more than once or twice.

If there are potholes and gullies in succession, then on good running the suspension does not have time to work out the travel of heavy wheels - and the Fortuner, trembling all over, begins to "float", especially at the stern. Here you must not yawn and catch him with the steering wheel, because the stabilization system is in no hurry to interfere with the process and allows the stern to noticeably leave to the side. To take pity on the car and passengers, in such situations, you must either slow down or relieve the tire pressure in order to soften the ride.

The Fortuner was supposed to be cheaper than the Prado, but something went wrong ...

And Fortuner even in expensive trim levels cheaper, especially when comparing diesel versions of SUVs! And then the alignment is obvious. A restyled 5-seater Land Cruiser Prado with a 2.8 liter diesel engine costs from 2,922,000 rubles, and a 7-seater version with this engine - already 4,026,000 rubles! Against this background, the diesel Fortuner costs 2,599,000 rubles for the Elegance package and 2,827,000 rubles for the Prestige. That is, already at the start, Fortuner is 323,000 rubles cheaper than Prado. And even in the top version, it is still 95,000 rubles cheaper than the base diesel version of its older brother.

Adults in the third row will not have fun at all. In Russia, the Fortuner is still only 7-seater. The third row in the stowed position is fastened with belts to the sidewalls of the body and eats up a lot of space in the trunk. Toyota advises that these seats be unscrewed if not needed. With the second row of seats folded forward, a flat floor for the entire length of the trunk does not work.

As noted above, the Fortuner has simpler equipment than the more "premium" Prado, but it is still not bad. There is already a "winter" package in the database, which includes heating of the steering wheel, front seats, mirrors, parking zones for "wipers", a diesel heater with an additional electric heater for the passenger compartment, as well as ceiling air ducts for rear passengers.

The starting price also includes LED foglights and headlights (near / far), running boards, 1-zone "climate" and a second air conditioner for back rows, cooled / heated glove compartment, cruise control, leather multifunction with paddle shifters, power windows and folding mirrors, a rear-view camera with parking sensors, light and tire pressure sensors and multimedia system with a 7-inch screen and 6 speakers. 7 airbags, vehicle and trailer stabilization systems, an uphill start assistant are responsible for safety.

The top-end version adds automatic windows, a tailgate servo with memory, electronic adjustment of the driver's seat, interior trim with a mixture of natural and synthetic leather, keyless access to the salon with a push-button engine start, as well as an assistant descent from the mountain.

The long travel of the suspensions and the rear hard blocking compensate for the less "evil" than the Prado, electronic imitation of interwheel locks. And on grippy rubber Fortuner flourishes off-road, raking out where there is nothing to catch on the "road". "Ponizhaka" with a number of 2.56 allows you to spin large wheels without any problems.

On the occasion of the arrival of Fortuner in Russia, he is already crying taillights his main competitor in the person of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, although it is cheaper in price. So, a 5-seater diesel MPS (2.4 liters, 181 hp and 430 Nm) in Russia can be bought with a 6-speed manual transmission, having paid 2,249,900 rubles for a 2018 car. Diesel options with 8-speed automatic machine Aisin- from 2,499,990 to 2,899,990 rubles for 2018 (2017 is 50,000 rubles cheaper). All versions have Super Select II all-wheel drive and a rigid rear differential lock.

In terms of equipment, Pajero Sport is somewhat more interesting than a Toyota SUV. In it, depending on the configuration, you can get adaptive cruise control, an all-round camera, control of "blind" zones and leaving the parking lot, frontal collision mitigation system, headlight washer, 2-zone climate and heated rear sofa (in addition to the existing heated steering wheel and front seats). Fortuner lacks all of this.

Why won't there be a 4-liter gasoline engine in Russia?

Indeed, for the new Fortuner in some markets (for example, in United Arab Emirates or South Africa) a 4-liter 1GR-FE series V6 petrol engine is offered. But not in Russia: we have such a motor only for the more prestigious Land Cruiser Prado, where this engine now develops "tax" 249 hp.

The Fortuner's ford depth is a solid 700 mm. During the test, they dived into the water above the thresholds, but the interior was not flooded, the seals were held.

By the way, Prado with a V6 engine is more expensive than the diesel version, and it accounts for only about 10% of Russian sales per year. It is logical that for our market Toyota does not want to put an unpopular engine on the more utilitarian Fortuner, thus winding up its already considerable price. And along the way, creating an extra competitor for Prado. Marketing, in a word.

Will they bring the option with the "mechanics"?

Diesel Fortuner with 6-speed manual transmission, available in a number of world markets, we will not see in Russia yet. But in February we already began to take orders for Fortuneers with a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline 4-cylinder engine with a 166 hp output. and 245 Nm. And the basic version with this engine just has a 5-speed "mechanics".

There are also two towing eyes at the rear. The full-size spare wheel, like on the Prado, hangs in the rear overhang.

except mechanical box, the petrol SUV also has a 6-speed automatic. The production of such Fortuner for Russia will start in Thailand in February, the "live" cars will appear by the spring.

As expected, the gasoline Fortuner turned out to be cheaper than its own. diesel version, and an updated Land Cruiser Prado with the same 2.7-liter engine. So, a Fortuner with manual transmission will cost 1,999,000 rubles for the "Standard" version, that is, at least 250,000 rubles cheaper than the Pradik. In the base - front and knee pillows, air conditioning, cloth salon, 17-inch stamped steel wheels, halogen headlights, body-colored door handles, light sensor, heated and electrically adjustable mirrors, rear axle differential lock, trailer stability and stabilization system, entry-level audio system with Bluetooth and third row of seats.

In the utility SUV class, sharing a frame with a pickup is common. Fortuner is related to Hilux, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport - from L200, Ford Everest is fraternized with pickup Ranger, the Chevrolet Trailblazer is based on the Colorado, and the basis for the new Nissan Xterra will be Navara. Yes, the "cargo" chassis is reflected in behavior and comfort, but its endurance is more important.

A petrol Fortuner with a gun is 2,349,000 rubles, that is, 299,000 rubles cheaper than a Prado with the same combination. There are already 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, rear sensors parking with a rear view camera, leather multifunction steering wheel with heating, side airbags and curtain airbags, heated front seats, a media system with a 7-inch screen and 6 speakers, roof rails.
